I am sure if you buy a huge quantity you may need to be able to briefly explain yourself such as if you have a detailed list ready of who you want to give to and why. Staff is very helpful about which liquors have stronger flavor and which have stronger liquor. This is a basic concept that I feel has gone over many others' heads because they just want to sell me something based on some potentially correct science that may be entirely useless for my taste buds. After spending a few weeks in 5 different states; if you have the means/opportunity, go to AMERICA!!! Regardless if the dollar is .80 cents to the dollar or even .65 cents to the dollar. Shoes, clothes, food, drink are just more affordable. You can go to a bar and have a drink for $2.. $2.50; try to get a drink in Toronto for under $9 (rarity). In other words; duty free makes a lot of sense. As does shopping/supporting America and it's retailers; there's no glory in being taxed 13% and paying double for 'stuff' in Ontario.

It is actually on Wellsley Island, on the America's side just before you cross northward into Canada. If you are going south from Canada into the US, you want Thousand Islands Duty Free. As you would expect, there are deals here on a variety of items, most notably alcohol, cigarettes, and cologne, but other items, souvenirs, etc. Prices and procedures are standard. Shop carefully - some things are very good deals, some are not. The facility is clean, the rest rooms are well maintained - and a good place to stop first if there's a long line waiting to enter Canada. There a few benches outside and an area which offers you a great view of part of the St. Lawrence River and some of the nearby islands.

The Ottawa International Airport is easy to get in and out. It is not a huge airport, but they…read morehave all the amenities you'd need such as a place to eat, get coffee, and even do some light shopping while you wait for your flight. I was flying out of Ottawa on United Airlines to a city in the USA. Here, you go through Canadian immigration, then USA immigration and customs, then airport security before entering the Terminal. While there are several steps, and I was unfamiliar with the process at this airport, it was easy. Agents are present to guide you through, and all were friendly. Among all my preparations, emptying pockets, and ensuring I would not set off any alarms, I forgot to empty my refillable water bottle before starting through airport security and the scanner picked it up... (Perhaps if I'd had one more cup of coffee... ) The agent there was kind enough to take it back and empty it for me and return the bottle. There was another man who did the same thing as me, and they helped him out too. That was very kind as he could have made me go back and start over. Everything was clean and orderly. As I entered the Terminal there was a Jack Hortons, then down the escalator there was a duty free shop and a restaurant. I arrived 2 hours prior to boarding, but could have waited another 60 to 90 minutes and had plenty of time. Thanks. Ottawa!

The rest of the store is deli, and yet, there no meats on display. Instead of meats, there are sandwiches. Lots of sandwiches. And drinks. And seating. I got the garlic chicken panini on whole wheat. It was delicious. Hubs got the Monte Cristo, also good but could have use a bit more heating time to melt the cheese. Tried the mushroom salad, also tasty. They have some soups on the menu too. And they have a small breakfast menu too. It's a quirky place with a nice owner. I'll go back when I am wanting a sandwich. This is one of the few places to eat at Trainyards, and worth knowing about. Can eat in or get it to go.. and buy lottery tickets at the same time!

I had a toasted tuna sandwich on rye and a diet Dr. Pepper -- for under 7$! My husband ordered a small custom pizza with mozzarella, mushrooms and tomatoes. The sandwich was crisp and the tuna delicious and generous. The pizza had lots of cheese and the sauce was that perfect tomatoey pizza sauce with a bit of zing to it. In the past, my husband and I have also split their amazing smoked meat sandwich - I highly recommend that, too. We beat the rush and had a place to sit and eat for a bit. In the summer months, they have tables outside. The staff are efficient and friendly and I can't wait to go back.
