Was on vacation in OCNJ and bought a bucket of carmel peanut and a medium butter. The carmel Peanut is good but the butter I questioned when the girl handed us the popcorn as it was burnt and looked like it had no butter. She swore to us it was correct, I paid my $10.50 for the butter walked away and my husband and I tasted it and it was the WORST butter popcorn ever threw the whole thing away, there went $10.50 down the drain or should I say in the trash, don't waste your money!!!! read more

Walking along the boardwalk and eating popcorn or sitting on a bench watching the ocean while snacking on popcorn is my idea of a relaxing day. We bought the butter flavored popcorn but the caramel popcorn is what they are known for. The butter flavored popcorn that we had tasted burnt. I got the mix of cheese and caramel and enjoy ever kernel of it. I was not too impressed with the staff thou. So all week this place was poppin' at night! Like line and big bags of of over flowing popcorn everywhere. I knew I had to try it out. Line was short when I arrived and I was able to watch them making the popcorn in large kettles in the back of the store front. I saw the popcorn being cooked, brown sugar being mixed and the smell was heavenly. Service was quick and I ordered a medium cheddar and caramel Open (which just means the popcorn is overflowing out and in the bag) The cheddar was on point a lovely velvet texture, salty, and just cheese bliss! My sister is a big fan of Johnson's popcorn and ever since a year or two ago, it became a staple in our home during Christmas time! We've never visited their store front but my sister always order a tin for delivery but if we are ever in the area, we will definitely make a visit! We've always enjoyed the chocolate drizzled popcorn- the tin never lasts two days! It's really that good. There's the right amount of chocolate drizzle on the lightly sweetened popcorn. This year, she decided to order a gallon of the salty and sweet popcorn which were the caramel and cheese flavored popcorn. After years of coming here, INCREDIBLY disappointed at todays purchase. Brought in 2 large containers for refills with no lids. I was told there were no plastic bags, so (during EXTREMELY windy conditions) I could either take my chance walking with opened popcorn containers, or by 2 lids for $2.00 each. The shelves were FILLED with containers in plastic bags and I asked "couldn't you just use 2 of those up there?", and was told no (as someone in the back is opening plastic bags. Because when you buy one on a Sunday, you'll have it empty by Monday, and surely get a discounted refill by the end of the week! Service is efficient. Popcorn is always consistent. Sidenote: I absolutely LOVE buying a tub to take home, taking the excess off the top to eat as a snack, putting the lid on the tub and then putting the tub full of caramel popcorn in the trunk of my car to let it sit in the hot heat for a few days. Let me start this review by stating in no uncertain terms that I LOVE Johnson's Popcorn. We lived in Ocean City for many years, and a bucket of their caramel corn was a regular staple in our house. My review is strictly concerned with their mail-order business. My mom also adores their caramel corn, so we decided to order a bucket to give to her for Christmas. After reading their website carefully, I ordered the small bucket of caramel corn on December 17th at around 10:15 in the morning. Their website clearly states that orders received before 2PM will be handled the same day. I received an email confirmation of the order at 10:44AM, and a shipping notification at 9:44PM the same day with a tracking number. I waited till late the next afternoon to check on the tracking number, and when I did it still said "Label Created". This is an indication that the package has not been picked up yet. The package was not picked up until after 6PM Friday, thus pushing everything back a day. Estimated delivery was now changed to 12-24 by end of day. Normally this wouldn't be a huge deal, but I live in an apartment complex where all packages are delivered to the office, and they are closed on 12-24. I called Customer Service to inquire why my shipment was delayed. The young lady I spoke to was rather rude and dismissive of my problem, at one point asking, "you do realize it's the holiday season, right?" I asked why their website states that orders by 2pm are shipped the same day, when my order was delayed, and her answer was, "I'm not sure, but two day turnaround is not bad during the holiday rush." I suggested she should update her website to reflect the possibility of delays during the holidays, and her response was, "maybe next year." Here is my main issue. Johnson's Popcorn does a brisk mail-order business. They advertise one thing on their website, but do not stick by their promise. When I pointed this out to them, instead of an apology and a promise to do better, I got an attitude and flippant responses to my concerns. I should also point out that they charge pretty outrageous prices for shipping. If you walk into a Johnson's on Ocean city and buy a small bucket of caramel popcorn, you will spend around 9 dollars. The small bucket I ordered ended up costing $19.95. With a regular UPS account, ground shipping from New Jersey to Texas is about $5.50 so almost eleven dollars seems a little excessive. Next time I need Johnson's Popcorn, I will have one of my friends go buy a bucket and send it to me. I am very disappointed in my customer experience with this "family-owned" business. read more

The best deal though is having it on the Ocean City Boardwalk (3 locations with the one on 12th open all year) WITHOUT the lid on!
