Took my fathers ATV in because it wouldn't start. I did what little diagnosing I knew how to do. Tested the starter solenoid and it functioned as it should. I did find one wire in the ignition that was shorted out. I shared this with the man at the service counter and pointed out the wire I found on his wiring diagram. $600 dollars later we thought they fixed it. Started and ran fine for a while. A side note, on the receipt they charged my dad for a new starter solenoid which I had tested and was functioning as it should. Then my dad got the low battery voltage light. Told them about It, they said replace the battery. He did. Shortly after had the same light. At this point he and I felt they were inept and he just had to deal with recharging the battery manually for a while. He finally got fed up with it and was going to trade it in on a new one. They offered him $1500 and said it could cost them up to $1500 to fix it. They confirmed it was not charging. I convinced my dad to let me take a look at it and asked Johnson cycle to put a winch and plow on his other ATV so he could still plow. I went through the service manual checks for a non charging battery. Stator and associated wiring was good. I noticed the wiring coming from the regulator rectifier was hooked up to the starter solenoid. Didn't make sense to me so I looked up a wiring diagram. They had it hooked up to the wrong post on the starter solenoid. After putting it on the right side, I ran through the service manual tests and everything was now functioning as it should. After telling my dad that he should tell Johnson cycle not to install the winch and plow they stated that they would have to take the winch back off and charge him $120. My dad tried explaining that it was because of their mistake he was having it put on in the first place. They weren't having it. So I went up to talk to them. First the service manager was understanding but refused to admit they made the mistake. He stated that they had fired the service tech that worked on the ATV. He said he would like to compromise but couldn't authorize that. In walks his boss, the same guy that told my dad off earlier. He had a poor attitude from the start. He rolled his eyes and shook his head at me. I went through the whole history and at the end he said he wouldn't do it for free, $75 and he turned his back and walked off. I thanked the service manager for having a decent conversation with me and left. Had his boss treated with me with respect like an adult, I would not have written up this review. But I feel they wronged us and it's only fair if I let others know. read more
