Long story: I was a year into growing my hair out and it was growing longer in the back into a sort of natural mullet. I spoke on the phone and in person with Sam that I wanted my hair cleaned up and trimmed so I could continue to grow it out and so it would NOT be a mullet. I had the same conversation with an out of state barber and the haircut was executed correctly; just a trim. I was very clear that I did not want a mullet and only wanted a trim. I was told confidently that it could be done and he would trim my hair so it could continue to grow. I got exactly what I did not want, which was a weird mullet. I was told the hairs on the side of my head needed trimmed. I followed the recommendation of the barber since I don't cut hair and it is not my expertise. What I got was a short clipper used high on the side of my head and on the back of my neck leaving me with a very odd mullet that had long hair on top and the back of my head but very short hair on the sides. Sam then tried fix it when I told him it doesn't blend very much and looks a bit like a mullet. He cut an inch of hair from the back and some on top by my request to try and even it out. The scissors cut here was straight across the hair like Dora the Explorer with long missing strands. I was told after the haircut by the barber that I should have gone to a salon for the trim and that they could layer it since he couldn't. I was also told much later I needed to be more clear with what I wanted. This doesn't make sense because I said I wanted a trim and NOT a mullet and what I got was a weird mullet. I then left and noticed on my way home that part of my beard on the left side of my face was not faded. If the haircut can't be done by the barber, be up front and tell the customer. Don't attempt it, ruin someone's hair, and then tell them afterwards they should have gone somewhere else and that you can't do it. At least they refunded me, but I had to go to another barber to fix my hair and cut the rest of it very short. Goodbye to a years worth of long hair.

I don't know what type of business it was before, but it dictated the arrangement of the salon. Now, each stylist has their separate room, which can be good or bad depending on what you like. I personally like to see the other clients and stylists at work. However, I got my hair styled for a special event (mostly due to my friend having an appointment there). IT LOOKED GORGEOUS. She paid attention to what I wanted done, and it turned out fantastic. It was nice loose curls pinned back. Even though everybody else was getting tighter ones, she did what I wanted. I've also gotten my hair cut here, nothing special because I didn't give any specifics, but it looked much more healthy afterwards! In addition to hair, I've gotten my nails done here. Better than the two awkward Vietnamese places. Also, they offer spray tans (and maybe tanning beds). You know you're in the Midwest when there's tanning salons! It was for a vacation in Mexico. I didn't turn out orange, just glowy as I had hoped! Bottom line, good place with good people, just do something about your interior (and get rid of the disgusting awning if possible).

However, I must state that I was rather stunned by the price... Having been to some very expensive salons in the Los Angeles area, I was not expecting a small salon in Iowa to rival the most expensive I've visited when it comes to price. I had a color and style (NO cut) and it was $74 before tip. I guess I had hopes that a midwest salon would NOT be at the same price as a L.A. Salon... just... wow! I am happy with the job that my stylist did, and I may return, as I figure sometimes you get what you pay for, but I do wonder... are there more affordable options around here??

I have been going to her for 4 yrs now I have been to other hair dressers if I couldn't get in cause I am known to wait till the last minute (like 12 hrs before I want to come in) to make an appointment and have tried others and every time I regret it since my hair just doesn't style the same when someone else cuts it, now i just schedule my next apt every time I go in that way its already on my calendar. She listens to me explain what I want done and always delivers she is also great at suggesting the right products that work for my hair without being pushy. It is so nice to get a haircut and totally trust the person doing it and not have to worry about if they understood what you said. She was comfortably juggling multiple customers and everyone was warmly greeted. We visited another store similar to this store, but there was no comparison with selection, service or ambiance. Ms. Brimani hair & Beauty definitely knows how to bring it. When it came to my turn I specifically told her I just wanted my brows cleaned up (they're already thick and full) and she gave me a very noticeable sharp arch that made me look like I was mad and giving everyone attitude... I had to fix them when I got home. But that's besides the point. She had products to give me a proper service (pre cleanse, and more to clean up after she did my brows) but for some reason just went right in with no prep or clean up and left me with brow hair all over my face. The worst part, was during the service. Brows don't take too long so I was surprised she put the service on pause. She told me to wait a second and left to go feed her kid in the MIDDLE of doing my eyebrows. She wasn't gone for a couple minutes either. I was left sitting there for over 10 minutes contemplating if she actually left the business or something...I wish I was joking. I haven't been back since and don't understand the good reviews honestly. I think people are just happy with an average service at a very low cost. I don't think that makes it excellent by any means. Not worth it. Was very disappointed in my service and overall experience there.
