Miles and his staff were excellent in caring for my wonderful wife Bj. They are so kind and helpful in a very stressful time. I appreciate them helping to make our celebration of her life a special time for those friends and family who attended. Thank you and all of your special people, Miles. Arlie read more

They way Miles and the staff treated our family, with care, comfort, respect, and just the overall gentleness was what we needed in our time of despair. Miles was always soft spoken, and patient with us. Was very helpful and thoughtful from the beginning to end. I have used their services twice, and if ever needed I know who I am calling in the future if that sort of service is required. This would be a difficult career and somebody has to do it, I am grateful it is Miles. read more

We want to thank Miles, Charity and all of Johnson Funeral Home for their assistance with my father's passing. Charity was so compassionate and supportive. At a difficult time, Miles went quickly to Tualatin to resolve a mistake by another Funeral Home. We are grateful to Miles, and we appreciate Miles assisting to get my Dad's last wishes handled. He validated my concerns and took accountability for his work and that matters. It's truly not an easy job and he is very efficient and affordable. They also remembered our family and checked in on us during the Christmas season. We would recommend their services. read more

Losing my mom was one of the hardest experiences of my life, and johnson funeral home made such a difference in how we moved through that process. They were not only professional, but deeply compassionate and present. I felt supported every step of the way, and that meant everything during such a tender time. I would wholeheartedly recommend them. read more

Although our requirements were not "extensive" or particularly complex, the folks at Johnson funeral home treated us with respect, kindness, and professionalism. They were very helpful in walking us through the process and when the time came to take care of our final plans for our uncle, they picked up the slack for us as we were fairly overwhelmed with many distractions and physical limitations. They exceeded expectations and we plan to work with them again for our personal plans moving forward. I highly recommend Johnsons based on our experience with them. read more

After an exhausting search for a service due the passing of a loved one, my family and I found Johnson Funeral Home to be one of the best we encountered. The glowing reviews on Yelp were not wrong and they were by far the most personable and professional service that left us very impressed. For starters, Miles was very quick to get back to us, despite a time crunch and the lack of flexibility on our end. He made last minute arrangements with his schedule and was able to meet us to give us a tour of the space and answer all of our questions. He was extremely courteous and mindful that we were emotional from our loss and was able to present a number of options for how we'd present the service. His space is extremely customizable to most people's needs. While they can't fit a large number of folks (like at a church), he was able to accommodate a decent number of folks and had additional space in the back. What was really impressive is that he was all-up-to-date with his tech and maintenance of the place. It was clean and inviting, the ventilation was good and their setup with the speaker system, mics, and projector options were top notch. I would also say that he was certainly more affordable than a lot of the other options in town. While many are run by corporations / parent companies, this entire operation is just him and his wife. They have a beautiful family and I was impressed that he was still able to make time to meet with mine. Above all, he was incredibly understanding our situation and was able to talk it through with us with grace and dignity. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend him to anyone in the Salem area looking for arrangements for the departed. read more

While it's taken me some time to write this, it doesn't reflect my positive experience. When my dad unexpectedly passed just before Christmas, it left us with so many decisions to be made, one being, which funeral home to choose. My brother made the selection off a card at a hospital but there couldn't have been a better choice than Johnson Funeral Home. Whether you're planning end of life care or had this sprung on you, Johnson Funeral Home is the funeral home to choose for services. From the moment I contacted them, they were empathetic, understanding and accommodating. They made this emotional process so easy on me. They didn't push anything, didn't try to upsell or make you feel pressured during the emotional blurriness of sadness, shock, disbelief, grief, all of it. Miles and his team make sure everyone is cared for and it truly shows in their communications and actions. read more

When my 93 year old mother died in May of this year, Johnson funeral home quickly came to our home in Dallas, OR. Miles was nothing but kind in making the arrangements and didn't try to talk me into extra things which would have increased the price. I would recommend them for their patience and understanding at a very difficult time. They even brought the cremains to my home as I was having difficulty driving through hip pain from a break that happened a few months before and I didn't think I could make the trip back to Salem. The cremains will be dispersed in the Pacific Ocean off of Depot Bay next summer when my brother and his family can attend. read more

In September of 2022, Miles and his team assisted me and my family with a viewing and a cremation services arrangement for a dear departed family member. Miles was available for an in-person conversation regarding all that my family would need to have as ready as possible documentation wise, and explained the technical aspects such as signing the agreement - and when that would take place, as well as viewing-related details most professionally and yet with understanding that let us know he was genuinely supportive of what we were going through. As we worked with hospice care around the time of the passing of my family member, we had some questions on how all that would work out and who would communicate what to whom and when and Johnson Funeral Home was seamless for our amazing hospice worker to connect with, and we also stayed in touch with Miles' team regarding the process on the day of the passing. There were several culturally specific details my family absolutely needed to include and Johnson Funeral Home really listened to understand, not to check some boxes, but to create a meaningful farewell that was in accordance with the faith of the deceased. I was beyond, simply beyond, moved and impressed with the work of their florist; as we were figuring out the viewing details, I flipped through the floral arrangements book and pointed out a couple of good options and suggested a flower to be included in whatever the arrangement ended up being, and the final arrangement (vertical, cascade style) was absolutely stunning. If you approach this process with some notions on what you'd like ahead of time and are very clear with the team when working on the arrangements, allow them to be a great guiding and supportive force. We are fortunate we connected with Johnson Funeral Home somewhat in advance of the need, and I really can't imagine anyone being more supportive, understanding, and professional at the same time than Miles and his team. read more

When my father passed away, we called Johnson Funeral home on the advice of a friend. It was 8:00 at night, but we received a call back within minutes and they came out that night to retrieve my dad. They were very tender and understanding and we really appreciated the respect and patience that was shown to my family. I received constant communication throughout the process and they accommodated all of our requests promptly. I HIGHLY recommend them. We had a wonderful experience. read more

When my mother-in-law passed, I was in a different state and wasn't there to help my husband. He was frustrated with the funeral home we'd arranged to manage things. I could only help by making phone calls. I knew I'd found the right funeral home in Johnson Funeral Home with my initial phone contact with Miles Johnson. He listened, was thoughtful, and reassured me he could help us. We found Miles, the owner of Johnson Funeral Home, sympathetic and accommodating. Johnson Funeral Home transported my mother-in-law's body to their funeral home from another funeral home that was unwilling to work with my mother-in-law's last wishes and with her funeral insurance policy. Miles was understanding, caring, and professional from the get-go! He made sure my mother-in-law's last wishes were recognized and refunded the remaining insurance money to the family, as was stated in the insurance policy. Miles took care of all the paperwork for the insurance policy to cover the double transport (Johnson's costs were much lower than the other company's) and other expenses, and he made sure the remaining funeral insurance money was promptly refunded to the family. I highly recommend you choose Johnson Funeral Home, a family-owned funeral home when making the final arrangements for your loved one. You don't need extra stress in a sad time in your life. Johnson Funeral Home was sensitive to our needs and guided my husband through this difficult time. read more

This review is 10 years too late, but still very relevant. My husband passed away from cancer 10 years ago. We had two very small children and I was at a complete loss on how to plan a celebration of life. Miles was our assigned Celebrant, and I was completely in doubt that a stranger would be able to sum up our life and love. Unfortunately the first thing I did was insult him, god he was so patient with me. Then he did something absolutely amazing. During our conversation, I casually mentioned that my husband had me write a blog during his illness to keep everyone informed. It was so difficult for me to do, but so many people were there on our journey with us. When he got up to speak at our service, I was stunned to find that he took the time to read the entire blog. 10 months of entries, just to get an understanding of who we were. He then gave the most incredible speech about my husband, like he'd known us for years. What a gift that was to me and my children. When I learned Miles had decided to open his own funeral home, I thought how lucky the people of Salem will be. It may seem strange to write a review 10 years later, but I was recently reminded of how lucky I was to have such a caring experience during the worst moments of my life. read more

I made advance arrangements for my parents per their requests about 2 years ago. No one wants to make that type of appointment, with a funeral home, for your parents. But I did & Miles was so patient & professional then. My Mom passed on New Year's Day while under hospice care & Johnson Funeral Home promptly followed their protocols. When Miles called after she passed to set up another appointment for paperwork, he gently encouraged me when I was tentative, still reeling from my loss. He kept me on point to fulfill her request. I now am more comfortable knowing when my Dad passes he also will be appropriately attended to. I would highly recommend Johnson Funeral Home. read more

Miles Johnson funeral home provided cremation and celebration of life services for my family. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect and had never dealt with death and organizing the arrangements. Miles made everything so easy for me. He was professional, prompt with communication, sincere, and provided his own custom and very thoughtful closing message that so many of our family friends talked about afterward. Miles, thank you! We could not have asked for a better experience than we had with Miles Johnson and his associates at Johnson Funeral Home -- their personal service, their delivery of what we signed up for, and the compassion and proactive assistance we felt from the time we first got in touch with them. When our sister passed away she had no family living in Salem, so all of us who came there to close out her apartment and deal with matters regarding her estate were from various other locations in the USA. It was a relief to find that the one thing we did not have to worry about was her cremation arrangements, obtaining the death certificates, and other services we had asked Johnson Funeral Home to provide. They had everything under control. read more

My mother died in OR and I live in SD. Searched online and read reviews and decided to use JFH as our service. Miles couldn't have been more helpful. Made what I thought was going to be a nightmare process very simple and stress free. From the time of death to me receiving the death certificates Miles did all the leg work. Helped us out with services and gave us ideas of what others have done and how they worked out. He was in contact every step of the way. I normally don't write reviews but in this case I decided to. When someone dies most of us don't know what to do. Get in contact w/Miles at JFH and he will help you out every step of the way. If this helps out at least one person then my mission is accomplished...and I will keep my good KARMA going... and IF you're reading this...I am sorry for your loss... read more

First let me say this: It is a must that when you need a funeral home, and you have time, you visit at least 3 and interview each place getting pricing and process. It is also a good thing to do this ahead of time. My daughter and I did exactly that, 3 weeks before the passing of my wife from her 30 month battle with cancer. We visited Johnson Funeral Home, Salem OR, first and immediately we both had a very good impression and that impression kept growing as we visited the next two. Second place, I felt like I needed to be wearing a 3-piece suit and live in the high dollar area of the city. Third place was immediately a put-off with Urns and Caskets as you walked in the door and then a feeling of lots of pestering to buy stuff even afterwards. Johnson presented none of this and you just felt like family with Miles. He took very good care of my wife and also contacted the SSA and procured necessary death certificates. And on top of that, very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend Johnson Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon. read more

I cannot say enough about Miles and the staff at Johnson Funeral Home. When my husband passed away recently, I did not have to worry about a thing. My husband looked exactly the way I remember when I went to the viewing. They did a tremendous job! I encourage everyone to set up a funeral plan with Miles and be assured that when the time comes, you can focus on all the good memories of your loved one and not have the worry about having to make decisions you really don't want to do immediately following the loss of a close family member. Trust them! You will be grateful you did. read more

This was the funeral home that was on call the night my Dad passed away at the hospital. We decided to choose them, based on reviews and location. We'd had a not great experience with another funeral home in Salem when Mom died, so we had concerns that this would be a repeat. We were so relieved when we first spoke with Miles Johnson. He was compassionate and professional without ever making us feel pressured or uncomfortable. He listened to our wishes and made everything as easy as possible for us. The cost was reasonable and everything happened according to plan. Miles wore his face mask the entire time and he had plenty of hand sanitizer available. We were grateful that the business was observing Covid precautions for the safety of everyone. I recommend Johnson Funeral Home without reservation. I used Johnson Funeral Home after the loss of my sister in January 2022. Miles was so kind and helpful especially since I didn't get there until the next day. Sadly this was our families second death in 6 months. This is the first time we used Johnson's and I am so glad we did. My 39 year old son passed away, leaving the responsibility to deal with everything to his 20 year old son. Miles was wonderful at walking us through all our decisions and choices and making sure we understand both the process and the costs. I highly recommend this funeral home if you are in the process of planning a funeral or other memorial. My husband and I have made the decision to prepay our funerals and when we do, we will be using Johnsons. read more

If I could give a higher rating, I certainly would. A death in the family is always difficult and trying, but Miles was absolutely wonderful. He walked us through the process step by step, gave my sister and I honest, straight-forward advice, and was sympathetic to our grief. He was organized and always on top of things; every detail was attended to with ultimate care and consideration. I am not looking forward to the death of another family member anytime soon, but I take comfort in knowing that I can call Miles Johnson to make the arrangements. He has my deepest and most sincere thanks and respect. read more

We lost a family member unexpectedly and were ill-prepared to make funeral arrangements, especially from out-of-state. Miles was fast, responsive at all times of day and evening, and made the process as easy as can be expected. We were treated with courtesy, respect and care. Our family split the costs of services which we found to be extremely reasonable. All paperwork and mementos were also completed ahead of schedule. Miles was a great guy to work with when my Mom passed away. He was very caring and understanding, and made the process a lot better than I thought it would be. The death of a loved one is always such a traumatic event, even more so when the loss is sudden, unexpected and when you loose someone way too early. Johnson Funeral Home made the celebration of life and cremation services so easy - and that's important when you don't feel you have much to give during your time of grief. Miles was very kind, professional, understanding, sensitive, helpful, flexible and accommodating to all the family's needs/wants. He was easy to communicate with and always got back to us in a timely manner. On the day of the service, Miles was very helpful with set up and organization. The costs seemed very reasonable and we liked that you did not have to purchase a pre set package of things not wanted or needed. We did not feel like we were being pressured to buy anything. I have experienced the feeling from other funeral homes of being pressured to purchase more than necessary and having them try to up sell me and it feels awful. Our experience with Miles and Johnson Funeral Home was quite the opposite and very refreshing! I would highly recommend Johnson Funeral Home. read more

In April, we met with Miles to pre-plan services for my in-laws after interviewing multiple funeral homes. My father-in-law passed away last month. It was such a relief knowing the big decisions had been made and Miles would work around the clock to help finalize the remaining details. He has all the latest technology which was a must for us knowing we would be traveling from MO when the hard times would hit. He made a wonderful video for the visitation. He was the officiant and also sang at the memorial service at the National Cemetery. He kept us well-informed of what to expect every step of the way. Thank you Miles. I previously met Miles through his time as a volunteer youth coach then one horrible day this October my 61 year old mother unexpectedly died. I really could not grasp what was going on and which way was even up. I knew Miles and his wife had a funeral home but not much else; as a coach Miles showed kindness and patience. I requested the officer contact Johnson Funeral Home hoping the person I saw on the field would be the same one to help us. Miles was helpful, patient and answered many questions. The single worst day of my life was tempered with the knowledge that mom was being taken care of. A snafu with our selected urn was made right without fuss and services went smoothly. I hope not to need funeral home services again anytime soon but would definitely recommend Johnson Funeral Home. read more

Miles was kind and compassionate and responsive when we would call when my mother passed. He was even able to get us a casket when the supplier we originally went through failed to deliver. However, when it came to explaining what to expect or asking about pallbearers or other things, he didn't do that. My mother had requested specific people be pallbearers and when she was delivered to the cemetery for her graveside service, he didn't wait for the pallbearers to be ready, He just started pulling her out of the hearse, and anyone nearby had to grab the casket to help. Not everyone was allowed the opportunity to be one. He could have asked if everyone was ready. We felt rushed. When we spoke to him about using his reception hall for the celebration of life he didn't ask about videos we had made or offer anyone to help us plan it or run it like their website advertises. I was grieving and had to run it myself and it was a lot. I also felt like I needed to be in charge of everything that I thought a funeral director usually helps with. I'm unsure if this was because we had the service graveside and not at the funeral home. Regardless, the saddest day of our lives should have been better handled. We had never made arrangements for a funeral before so it would have been lovely for either the funeral director or someone else to help us know what to expect and plan the day better. All in all, I can only give 3 stars since Miles and his staff were kind and courteous. read more
