Our hike was both fun and refreshing, and it gave us a glimpse of just how much this park has to offer. One of the highlights was discovering the variety of trails--each one winding through different landscapes and offering unique perspectives of the river and surrounding forest. That said, we've only scratched the surface. With so many trails still left to explore, it feels like we've only had a taste of the adventure waiting here. We also had the chance to tour the lodge, which was a fascinating stop. It shared the history of the site in an engaging way and offered interactive exhibits that were perfect for kids. It added an extra layer of fun and learning to our visit, making the experience even more memorable. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for hiking, family outings, and reconnecting with nature. We're already looking forward to coming back and experiencing more of the trails and activities we didn't get to this time.

Dog friendly and great for hiking alone or in a group, I highly recommend visiting the park in the evening. Trail #1 goes under Highway 400, so does get a bit noisy. Trail #2 goes through the Hewlett Lodge Visitor Center and is a good spot to picnic and take breaks. Each trail is about 3 miles to & fro and take roughly an hour or so each to complete them. There are no restrooms in the Island Ford Unit entrance so plan accordingly if you enter from that entrance. Parking is $5/day or free with the Annual pass or America the beautiful pass. Amenities: Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking, pet waste stations & picnic tables

From there, you have to walk around the lake, then through the recreation center to the "almost other side" of the park to get to the playground. You can drive south the the entrance and park along the street or one of the small parking lots much closer to the playground. That said, the space is great! It is large and spread out. There is a covered pavilion and lots of other seating in the form of benches. There are 4 distinct areas, with swings in multiple areas. The slides are high and large and there is a zip line and spinning cage item that is a bog hit with the kids. The ambiance with the tall tress brings this playground home for a 5-star review!

This park spans 50 acres and is more of a recreation complex. There are two entrances and the…read morepark's drive has somewhat of a U-shape. It has a couple of baseball fields, a tennis complex with a bunch of courts, and a couple of soccer fields. They are all very nice, but they are not opened to the public and are locked to keep people out. You need a permit to use the baseball and soccer fields. The tennis courts are managed through the tennis complex on site. As an added bonus most of the courts and fields are lighted for night play. You will find an ample amount of parking available here, spread between lots all throughout the park. The park also features a nice and extensive trail system for bikers, walkers and joggers. You will find a little green space to toss a ball around or have a picnic. There are also gliders swings and benches available to sit and enjoy. There are dog clean up stations all over the park and they have a monument of sorts in memorial of the 8 people killed in the 2021 anti-asian spa shootings. The memorial features a nice golden statue of an asian woman sitting down. The park has a huge shelter that is available to rent. The shelter has a bunch of picnic tables under it and a grill just outside of it. The park has two playground area. The smaller one is by the baseball fields. It has a small play structure with monkey bars and a slide. This play area also has toddler swings. The other playground, on the other side of the park, is much larger. There is where you will find wood balance beams, saucer swings, a large net structure, slides, and a net climber. There are bathroom facilities near both play areas, with the larger, and in my opinion better one being on the side with the larger playground. The park is a nice place to hold local events the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, food truck Wednesdays in the summer, and Light Up Brookhaven in the winter is held here. I like this playground. It is very well maintained. However, much of its amenities are private and require a permit. Most of the park's visitors that I saw during my visit were taking advantage of the park's trails. There were no kids on the play ground. Being a hot weekday may have something to do with that. I do feel this is a destination park unless you are attending an event here.

Lynwood Park - Outdoor basketball court

The gym is great, great backboards, and would be perfect if it wasn't for the floors. It's hard to plant or change direction/do any type of movement without having your feet slip, so this feels really dangerous at times if you're trying to play a game. I would recommend just shooting around or playing very casually if playing indoors. There are 2 outdoor full courts with 10' rims on one end and about 9'6" on the other end. These courts would have also been perfect if it wasn't for the short hoops at one end. I'm really not sure why it was made this way, but I usually go here to play halfcourt. Other than that, there are really good single rims and above average backboards (especially for an outdoor court). The flooring here is nothing like I have ever seen before and it grips really well! It also feels a little easier on the knees than a traditional outdoor court. On a nice day it can get REALLY packed so you might have to wait for a court or try to play pick-up. There are also 2 public tennis courts in the area that can also get busy. They are really well maintained, but it can also get busy on a nice day!

Because I couldn't find any open parking spaces and people were lined up outside the recreation center, I ended up leaving to go to another polling place. Lynwood Park is on Osborne Road, and you either know exactly where it is, or just accidentally stumble upon it because you're completely lost. It's definitely in an out of the way location, but that's what makes it nice. The second time I came to this park, it was to practice my tennis serves. The park has two tennis courts that are well maintained, especially for being in a public park. The courts are first-come, first served. Tennis players are generally polite and will not hog the tennis courts. While I was there for a little over an hour, I noticed that there were playground equipment for kids to climb on, a covered picnic area with tables, two full sized basketball courts, a swimming pool and a multi-use grass field. I didn't go into the recreation center, so I have no idea what's in it. I haven't been to Lynwood Park often enough to get a better feel of the vibe, but I'm sure I'd be using most of the facilities constantly if I lived nearby. My picture didn't actually do any justice to the appearance of the park because the park looks much nicer in person. Drop me a note if you want to hit some tennis balls with me!
