He was on his way home from a job site and spotted the market, so he stopped in. We were all glad that he did. The carne and the pollo were both excellent. Seasoned perfectly, both were fresh with great flavor. They grilled up very nicely and made for some excellent tacos. The tortillas (flour and corn) were also from Food Farm Market, and they were fresh and tasted homemade. When I'm looking for quality meats in the future, I will be sure to remember Food Farm Market.

I'll break down my horrible experience…read more Communication: You can message them via instagram, email or text and it will take them about 2 weeks to return your call, but only after being hard and complaining to them about their poor communication style. That should have been a big red flag, but I chalked it up to a busy season. Directives on venue: I spent 2 hours at their tasting facility and went over everything I wanted and expected for a fancy, high end, 80 person baby shower. It was supposed to be in a wedding type of catering line with white and pink display and specialty clay pots with a lace type of look. I picked the style at their facility, repeated that verbally via phone later. (Ruby) was taking notes the whole time. I picked the layout from their instagram pics and video they had replaying during the tasting. I showed them pics of the dusty rose and hydrangea style of flowers for my centerpieces. They expressed to me that they would match my decor as close as they could. Before leaving, we went over everything and Ruby assured me she had all of the notes and everything would be ok. I secured the $300 for deposit and locked in my date. The contract they use online is inadequate, I told them I could not fill it in because they were asking for an additional deposit. The description of the decor was not on there, so how could I put that down? I kept calling, emailing, and Instagram messaging the closer to the event it got. No return calls. I kept telling them I had to talk to someone to up the amount of people and to finalize everything before the event. Finally, I got a call within one week of the event. The man (Jorge, I think) told me everything was set and I had nothing to worry about. I took his word for it. The only thing he went over with me was the fact that I continued to call Ruby Lupita. For some reason, Lupita stuck in my head, I was wrong, and he made sure I was corrected. Day of the event: They showed up and set up a small dingy table with decor for a backyard BBQ. Mexican sarape style decor with bright pink cheap flower bouquet in Mexican brown pots. Nothing of what we went over. The aquas were supposed to be in the beautiful jars I picked at the tasting. I got street taco vendor plastic jars. The fancy light tan clay pots were not there. The flowers were not there. Didn't match at all to what I showed Ruby. I have a half acre property with 10 tables around a pool area and a special serving area that accommodated the service line I expected and chose. I got nothing remotely close. I was so embarrassed because it was so out of sync with the rest of my event. I called him so upset. I didn't have time to continue to discuss things that day, I told him I would call him during the week. Outcome: It was not their fault, it was my fault because I didn't use their form online. It doesn't matter that I told him directly of the pots I chose via phone call (Light tan pots with a white lace looking overlay). My continued messages stated I could not use that online form because it did not work with what I picked. He stated Ruby's notes didn't have anything specific. What I was describing was the wedding package. The package I bought was their festival package (BOTH ARE THE SAME PRICE- $29/PP). At no time during the tasting did anyone say, we're sorry you can't have that decor because your event is a festival not a wedding. I couldn't believe he put it all on me and that they held no responsibility. But he did voice his apology. At this point I sent an email and stated I deserved compensation. What they gave me was their regular package for $19/pp. I have not heard back. The scary thing is, no pictures on their social media show the ugly set up I got. They were sent pictures of that day, but they will not forward them to me and I was so angry that I did not take any myself. I did ask for them. I would warn anyone using this company to go with anyone else. The first 4 pics are my event the other 4 are the decor I chose and did not get at all.

I have no idea what to think of this place…read more With all of the high praise I've seen in their reviews, including a number of Yelp Elites, I had very high hopes for a top experience from an established food truck. What I got was terrible on multiple levels. How was Takobar this disappointing? So, full disclosure on how my wife and I came across this place. Takobar was parked at my daughter's Multi-Cultual Festival, serving dinner, at Paloma Elementary in San Marcos. They were there selling entrees alongside a Hawaiian Ice and Sushi Burrito spots. My better half didn't want to risk getting raw fish from a food truck, so we opted for a Carne Asada Tacos Plate. Visually, our food was plated well and had a good spread. There was a good amount of food, plenty of beef, a side of chips and a cup of beans on the side. The onions and cilantro had a nice hand chop to them. And there was a healthy spoonful of guac on each taco. It was a very appealing start. As for taste, the carne asada itself was very dry, as if it had been cooked without any marinade, making the meat loose and crumbly. The cut of the beef was thin, I'm assuming they used slices of flank as opposed to a thicker skirt steak. And it had an overall feel like it had been cooked, then placed into a warmer to further dry out until it was served. The end result was somewhat bland, mealy, and unlike what Carne Asada really should taste and feel like. The Guacamole glopped on top was very thin, almost pureed, and didn't have any of the salt or lime flavors you'd expect from a good guac. I'm under the impression that what little avocado they had had been tossed into a blender and cut with a few cups of water to bulk up the volume to help it last through the entire evening of orders. At most, the best thing I could say was that it was 'somewhat' edible. The chips felt and tasted like they had come from a bag as opposed to being freshly cut and fried in the truck. And those refried beans. Growing up, I had been taught that there were three stages of cooking and serving refried beans. From the final stage of drier beans with scraped pan bits of Manteca concentrated flavor, all the way up to the initial stage of runnier beans where all of the ingredients have been blended together. The Takobar beans didn't even come close to that first stage and were more like a soup. The flavor was ... kind of okay, but I'm pretty sure they had also been mixed with a lot of water to help them go further that night. The thin and liquid end result was something I could easily do a shot of out of their plastic cup. So, yeah ... Takobar was pretty terrible. I am really hoping that this was an off-night, caused by the pressures of catering an entire school's worth of kids and parents. Or maybe a new cook working with too little behind the counter. Regardless, as it was, I have to believe that the bulk of these high marks from people with just a few reviews under their belts are from friends and family. Going to have to go the tastier route and brave the street sashimi next time. A very low two stars from me.
