Talked to John on Friday and he had my car out by Monday afternoon. Turned out to just be a CV joint replacement. This shop fixed a leaking rusted out brake line on my Mom's 2003 Buick Century then lied telling her the other brake lines were all rusted and needed to be replaced and said it would cost $450.00 or higher. Later I had another mechanic friend hoist the car and all the brake lines were like new so he obviously wanted to just rip us off. I wouldn't take a child's tricycle to this shop!!! I will not go here again. The owner was very rude after i questioned why my bill was 350 bucks more than it was quoted for. They took forever to do a simple heater repair and I had to go back 2 times because of my heater controls stopping to work. My 4 year old child and I drove in a very cold car having the heat go on and off for days before they finally got the real problem fixed. THEY CHARGED ME EVERY VISIT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ! First the heater core $900... then the wiring ? 475 bucks... then it was really just the switch for another 400. WHAT A RIP-OFF ! DISHONEST, RUDE, now my radio went out and it smells like plastic burning in my car when we run the heater. I won't go back there, maybe I should just stop and drop off some cash, at least then they will get my money but not screw up anything else on my car ! read more

Not sure what the guy from Chicago knows about John's Pitstop, but this place is top-notch service from very knowledgeable mechanics. And they give the best prices in town and are always honest. They will shoot straight on your car issues and give options of everything they can do, from patching to replacements. Highly recommended even for an oil change. Be sure to call, appointment setup is the quickest way to get a car checked in and out. read more

Great auto mechanic. Before I brought my car to John it was down the street at Belvidere Auto Clinic. Belvidere Auto Clinic threw a bunch of parts on my car and told me my car was fixed and after driving it down the street all of the instrument panel lights were on and the car still squealed and my breakes were still bad. He also upcharges each part they put on your car by 60%. They refused up hold their warranty. I next brought it to John's shop. He looked over the car and confirmed it was a bad alternator and replaced it. After a few days I did have trouble with the alternator but John stood behind his warrenty and his work and replaced it with another alternator and my car has no issues. He is nice and affordable. I would recommend him to anyone. Lastly drive by his shop and look at all the cars waiting to be repaired and then drive by Belvidere Auto Clinic there are no cars waiting. Its just shows you people trust his shop over Belvidere Auto Clinic. Thanks John!! read more
