What might make this park better in my estimation is if the playground were fenced in. It's can be easy for a little kid to take off like a shot! For that reason, it's not my top park in the area, but I'd return to it if our friends wanted to visit. But there's lots of street parking.

The park is surrounded by residential streets and except for a small parking lot near the swimming pool, it's all otherwise street parking for visitors, so it can get crowded if you're not a slight bit early for an event. And it's got a pirate theme! There's a toddler play structure (or one that's more toddler friendly, anyway) and a bigger kid play section. There's a climbing structure and new fangled monkey bars. There is a covered area with a half dozen so picnic tables. There's also a great splash pad right next to the playground (can't wait to take my kiddo there!). The splash pad has an admission charge, or if you have a Park Ridge pool pass you can gain entrance using that. There's a nice amphitheater here as well. They have summer concerts or movies in the park that take place here. Last week they had a family concert and I'm hoping to take my kiddo to the next one. This is also a historic site; the Park Ridge Historical Society is located here, too. Parking is pretty good though with some of the popular activities they host here I'll bet it pays to be early.

I didn't quite understand until I got there. There's a very short and small water slide. There are many kids who want to ride it and no one to monitor it. I stood to watch my child and signaled when to come down (which I didn't mind). However, other kids were piling on and on, on top of each other, but it wasn't my job to tell them what to do. The slide is also rather fast but the landing area is short so many kids go to the concrete area and could easily get hurt. I wish the splash pad and playground would connect better instead of a long walk, but I could see the reason because splash pad requires pay whereas playground doesn't. It was worth a visit. It was clean and well maintained.

Sometime ago I took notice of Community Park. It was recommended that I take my client here for…read morewalks on the track, switching up our typical scenery, plus because of it having softer pavement. During the evening of being introduced to Community Park I spotted quite a few runners and walkers on the track which built that interest to stop in in the future post finishing my work shift. During my initial run here I noticed that the track has a slight square shape to it different from any other, yet still accurate in distance and consisting of the rubberized artificial surface like any other. It is open as a community park, yet utilized and marked 'Bulldogs' referring to the Old Orchard Jr High School Bulldogs. And depending on what time of day you choose to utilize the track & field on the weekdays you may encounter the junior high school students conducting physical education class. Off to the side, there is even a tiny playground allowing you to keep an eye on your children as they play on the equipment. As for parking, there is access to parking along Kenton Ave which may be limited at select times of the day. But if it is then there is also access within the neighborhood. For me, the Community Park track is a relief because it allows me to get my run in after finishing my work shift because if I wait later I tend to procrastinate and maybe say forget it depending how fatigued I am from work. Even though Skokie is already a pleasant city, I most definitely recommend Community Park if you prefer a somewhat secluded area that will allow you to run, walk, play soccer or flag football. We especially had fun making music but I can see how that might get loud and a little more difficult if the park is crowded.
