I'm in need of a new gardening service for my income properties and almost called John Gardening service until I read the following comment by owner: Comment from John r. of John's Gardening Service Business Owner 2/21/2012 "we are not from Mexico so, we don't get paid the same low wage you are use to paying for service you are in America". After trying and failing to get ahold of several local gardening services that were rated overall more highly here on Yelp and Yellowpages.com, I called John's service. The four other services I called didn't even have valid or free voicemails, and in one case, the number didn't even work. Not so with John's. He picked up on the first ring, got my basic information, and informed me that he could come by for an estimate on my yard later the same day. When he got to my house, he told me he could do the job for me right then and there, and was really easy to negotiate with. He followed all of my requests to the letter, and offered a couple of suggestions on how to get the job done the best way. He got the job done quickly and efficiently, which is saying a lot, because my back yard was a frickin' jungle. Before, it was a hazard for my allergies and asthma. Now, it's clean and cleared and ready for me to do my worst. Overall I'm really satisfied and pleased with the work John and his staff did. Only going to put a four-star here because for a five I'd have to use his services again on a regular basis, but if I decide to do so and he maintains this level, you can bet I will definitely switch up to a 5. read more

These reviews are absolute lies! I've never heard such crap in my life! John has NEVER requested we pay him up front or weeks in advance. He has ALWAYS sent us a bill for what we have him do to our yard. Yes, his work may be a little pricey but it is definitely worth it to have friends come over and compliment our beautiful yard. Anyone who says he is shady is ridiculous. He comes to our house, does the work and goes. He doesn't linger he doesn't bother us, if anything, we make small talk with him. John's Gardening Service was recommended by some people on my Yahoo Mom's Group. Our front yard was horrid so we needed someone to install a new sprinkler system and also put in new sod. John's prices are very reasonable. He is very professional and friendly. My 3 year old thinks he's the greatest! Our neighbors love our yard now that it's no longer yellow. Whenever the lawn turns yellow (from our terrible maintenance), I call John and he'll take care of it plus do various yard work like pruning our rose bushes, trimming the hedges, etc... I wish I could hire John on a bi-weekly basis but my husband is too frugal (ha!). read more

After calling around all morning and leaving messages for gardening service estimates, John was the only one who answered the call right away. He was able to come by our home within a few hours to give us an estimate for bi-weekly maintenance and he was even willing to start on the spot!! A breath of fresh air! So we just moved out of our rental home and wanted to do a bit of work so it looked better than when we moved in. I called John around 10am, by 1 pm he had visited my home and had a quote. The next day he came and spent hours working on he yard. He was super professional, and did not rush. It looked beautiful! Ditto on the reviewer with he advance pay issue. I hired John's Gardening service a couple of years ago for my home. On the very first visit he was at my door asking for payment in advance for a month's worth of service. I told him that I was not comfortable with that and even though payments are typically once a month after service is provided, I would pay him for this visit only since he was pushing the issue. I had such high hopes for John - he came with such an excellent recommendation, but he let us down at the last minute. I'm still not sure what the real reason is. He came over on time to give me a quote, we negotiated, I fired my old gardening service and 20 minutes before he was due to show up on the first day he calls and says that his accountant wouldn't allow him to accept the work at that price. I asked him to give me a price that would work and then he said that he didn't have the time to do a good job. I asked if he could recommend another service since we were really in a lurch, and he said he didn't know of any. Really? I find that hard to believe..... I wish he had been honest with me when I asked him if he was taking new customers and before I had fired the old service. The old service wasn't great, but at least they kept the weeds down. I have been meaning to write this review about John's Gardening. For the past 6 months my yard has been looking quite splendid. Usually i do the yard myself but with my new job i haven't had the time. I'm the type of person that drives on a nice yard and ever since I hired them my yard has been top notch. by far the best yard in my area. I've noticed the reviews on here saying he is a little pricey but the way i look at it is you get what you pay for and through my eyes he give us way more then what we pay him for and i would recommend his services to all my family and friends! John was outstanding to work with. I needed my brown lawn and 12 rose bushes removed, 2 yards of compost tilled in and the entire lawn tilled. In other words, hard, difficult work. John and his team took care of it very professionally. John gave me an estimate for price and timing and he delivered on time and budget. They left the lawn graded and raked neatly, swept and ready for my husband and I to install drought-tolerant plants ourselves. John worked with us to get it to the point we needed. I'm gonna have to agree with DK. I scheduled an appointment last week to have a consultation for a cleanup. I'm not sure if it's a receptionist error or what, but I waited around for the guy to show up and he never came. I tried calling and got voicemail. I never even so much as got a call back!!! His gardening may be great [not that I ever found out] but his customer service sucks. If I could give negative stars I would. Use someone else that will actually show up. read more

I would stay away from this man. He requested two weeks pay in advance and then did not do the work he promised. He refused to discuss making up the work he owed us claiming we are unreasonable and we were treating him like a slave. He just flew off the handle for no reason at all. I am a very calm person and would never take advantage of anyone. We were paying him $50 per hour for John and $20 each for his crew. Now that doesn't sound like slavery to me. I am so disappointed. I haven't actually used John's service, but I met him this morning. He was very personable and professional. However, he quoted $120 per month ($60 bi-weekly) to maintain our very small yard. To give some perspecitve, our previous gardener was charging $35 per month ($17.50 bi-weekly). John's service might be wonderful, but he really makes you pay for it. Holy smokes! read more

Charges 80 bucks for twice a month. Shows up on a random day towards the end of month and expects to get paid on the spot. Times are hard right now and i would like to know exactly when your comming so i can have the cash ready for him. Third month came one time only in a month and didnt show up the second time. So i thought he was never comming back again no call or anything. Then he leaves a voice mail about getting his 80 dollars for the month. This is 1 week after the end of the month. I'm like WTF he missed a sevice last month and wants full pay? I dont pay he then leaves a note saying i owe $80.00 that showed $160.00 scratched off with a pen. Again. So now he sent it to collections saying that i owe him $$240.00 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO with someone else!! read more

Watch out! He was great for a few weeks then had "truck" problems, "weather" problems and when we said we didn't need his services anymore he demanded another $250 or else. After showing him that we had $250 paid in advance, he disappeared. An honest person would have at least done some basic lawn mowing for the final month but he said he had what we owed him and we never saw him again. read more

I was very disappointed with John's service. He frequently changed the day he was coming without telling me, didn't do all the basics (such as blowing or sweeping sidewalks), and had poor attention to detail. After a while, I was just tired of it. read more

John is a pleasure to work with. I got too busy with a new job and let my lawn, trees and bushes go. The trees and bushes were overgrown to the point where you could not walk on the walkway in front of my house anymore. I was actually walking on lawn to avoid the foliage. I didn't want the HOA to become concerned over the condition of my yard. I looked John up using Google maps, called him and he was there immediately. Not only was my problem taken care of, but John knew the name of every tree and bush in my yard. I thought that was great! Now I have a clear path to walk through with no hassle and no worries. John was referred to me by my sister when I moved into a home from a apartment . He replied right away ( I used text ) and showed up next day as arranged and gave me a estimate for bi weekly maintenance . He was able to start right then and had the yard looking great . I have dogs , so of course we have to keep up on the yard and he is always very helpful with products he uses to keep my grass green ( even though I'm like the bad client of lawn care ) he has reasonable rates for extra side jobs outside of my regular maintenance . Today I had him take out a tree for me last min , unplanned , that had been dropping rotten fruit everywhere . He was able to fit that in right away . I thought clean up from it would be horrible but it was all done and clean in NO time ! He is great ! I love when John comes and I look forward to how great my yard will look afterward ! I would recommend him to anyone ! Great guy , easy going . Great job! Our front and back yards were full of high wild weeds and plants. We really need the job done as quickly as possible. Failed to show up, gave excuses about truck breaking down, never made up for rainy days and kept the $250/month advance and did not work the last month when we said we were terminating he contract. An honest business person would have at least earned the last payment. Instead he kept it saying his contract allowed it. Watch out!! read more

Rates are high, service was inconsistent, many times the bid price increased after the work was done, he didn't abide by contract stipulations, started off as a great gardener for the first month then slowly became a mow-and-blow gardener. He missed two weeks of gardening then finally replied after several attempts with more reasons why he missed. Finally had to part ways. I truly wish him well and pray that he continues to improve. read more

I recently got in contact with Johns gardening Service through a recommendation. A friend of mine sadi that went with Johns gardening service despite the reviews he had because he had seen some of his work done. I would have to say that even though I was hesitant because I hate spending money on thing that I am not sure are going to be worth it! But MAY I SAY IM GLAD I DID! I called him to come and do the yard because I have a party coming up soon I needed it done promptly and I needed it to look clean and maintained! He came out and leave me a deal the arrangements were that he would charge me 10% less that what he normally would charge in exchange that all the clippings from the yard he could leave in the curbside for the city to pick up. My yard was horrible it has % banana trees that were frost bit, it had ivy our of control and weed grass when lest my yard was clean trimmed all the banana trees were chopped so spring they will look pretty again, and I am one HAPPY CAMPER! despite his reviews i am EXTREMELY SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE! 5 stars from the ROMERO FAM BAM read more
