All in all, it was the worst, most odd, barbershop experience I've ever had. Tina is a nasty, weird person, stay away. Seems like shes not right in the head lol!

My son had grown out his hair and was looking for a trim and neaten it up and she cut it like a little boys cut. If you have a boy my sons age you know style is everything with them! She finished up we left and I told him I would get it fixed and she just gave a smirk! It was not of anything I have ever heard from this place as I have only heard great things! I was definitely taken back! We went to another place immediately after and got his hair cut!

I've been bringing my kids here for haircuts for at least a few years, since they started attending…read morea private school in Beverly. After trying a few of the barbers, we learned that Leopold is our favorite and does the best job for us. --Barber recommended: Leopold-- One of my kids always got a fine haircut anywhere we went, but the other has had quite a few weird cuts by professional stylists. I don't know why. Maybe his hair grows in a particularly unusual way? Try LEOPOLD if you, too, have hard-to-cut hair and have suffered elsewhere. --Location & good service-- Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this convenient location and its nice, professional employees. Prior to the pandemic, we would just walk in. After its pandemic reopening, the policy switched to appointment only to reduce crowding. I actually prefer a booked appointment since I dislike waiting, so this worked fine for my family. --COVID specific concern-- Right now, in October 2021, however, we have to find a new barbershop. Though Yelp still lists "masks required" and "staff wear masks" for Montserrat Barber Shop, this was no longer true when my husband went in for a cut last month. Some people in the shop wore masks, but it was clearly now optional as others were bare-faced. (I sincerely hope based upon vaccination status, but my husband did not ask this question.) If you are vaccinated and comfortable to be face-to-face with others indoors without masks, I still recommend this shop. If you are at very high risk for COVID-19 complications in spite of being vaccinated--like a member of our household--hold off on visiting Montserrat Barber Shop until this delta variant surge ends. Since Salem enacted a universal indoor mask mandate, we will search for a temporary hair salon option there (though I sincerely hate setting foot in Salem during the month of October.) As an aside, I wish Yelp and other review sites were more proactive about keeping these vital stats updated. These services offer far less value when facts change and listings go out-of-date.

What a fantastic experience…read more I called supercuts as usual and was told not to bother because the wait was over 2 hours. I searched for a local barber and tried Montserrat. The waiting area was comfortable with AC and tv. After waiting 5 minutes Leopold asked if I was ready. He was very professional, fast and did an excellent job. I'll be going here for a haircut from now on. Reasonable prices and excellent haircuts.

Found myself in need of a cut while visiting family in Beverly. Went to Yelp for help and narrowed…read moreit down to three places and Classic Cuts had availability. Made reservation online and blindly selected one of three available barbers (John G). He didn't have a photo but there was a barber shop pole next to his name so made sense. What I found it was it was his first day at this shop with many years experience prior to coming here. I reserved, paid and tipped online so it was super convenient. I was greeted on arrival by all three barbers. All friendly. Place was clean, had off street parking and located in residential section of City for the most part. I was sat right away and John chatted me up. I get a fairly standard razor cut with 3 on top and 1 on the side. Cut came out perfect and he did a straight razor on edges. All employees and customers had masks on and place felt clean and safe. Other male barber engaged me in convo on music with some local insights so I had a nice visit. Check this place out when you're in town or if you live there. Priced reasonably and John did exactly what I asked for and even trimmed the eyebrows. (Yeah I'm that creepy old dude with bushy eyebrows) Didn't get any pics because I was in the zone and got on and out in under 20 minutes.

Until today, I wasn't too picky about where I went for a haircut. Generally, I'd get a buzz and be…read morein and out in like 10 minutes. But today was different. I usually don't have a beard but for 8 weeks I let one grow. Finally, I'd had enough and wanted to see my soft, baby-face again so I had to seek out an actual barbershop. I searched Yelp for places in the area and, after a little more research, found I liked the website of Classic Cuts. I walked in and they took me fairly quickly. I have to be honest, I never got a shave from a girl before so when the girl there took me, I was really interested to see if she would destroy any lingering notions I had regarding, "shaves are a thing of male barbers." Well, she did... and with flying colors. Buzzing hair might seem like a no-brainer but it's not. I use 2 different depths and if they don't get the fade/part/line right, even a buzz can look awkward, but she was really good with the buzzer (sounds like a gameshow, huh?) and I was really happy with it. When it came time to shave, it was, honestly, one of the best experiences I've ever had in a barbershop. After a quick buzz of the major foliage, I pretty much got to just lie back, close my eyes, and feel what remained of 8 weeks of undergrowth being delicately, and expertly, whisked away. I wish I remembered her name, but whoever she was, she handled the razor with great skill and care and after the first few scrapes, I just relaxed and almost went to sleep. ;) Every, so often, she would put a hot towel on my face to reheat it and loosen up the pores. And she took great care in the sensitive areas like the corners of the mouth and around the edges of the nostrils. At the end, a colder towel was applied to tighten up the pores and an after-shave (optional) was applied. Cut was $14 and Shave was $16 - Total $30. It is TOTALLY worth it. Even though guys can just shave their own faces for free, I strongly recommend every guy should try this at least once. It's like 20-30 minutes of mini-pampering but it's not the floofy spa kind of pampering so you won't feel as if your manhood is being threatened. You'll feel more like Tony Soprano afterwoods. ;) Ok, all the other stuff, like the parking lot, etc, is just fine and doesn't need to be covered here. Great cut, great shave, friendly personalities, very professional, and I'd recommend strongly to ANYONE --- even the "Bearded Lady" from the Topsfield Fair. ;)

Sal is an intuitive genius when it comes to making you look good, and he loves what he does. But he's more than that. When a guy carefully deposited a bag of eggplants he had just picked, I knew I was in the presence of a beloved pillar of the community. You'll never find a better man. You don't find this ambience everywhere. Sal is the real deal as well. Quiet and gentle, he makes you feel like you have plenty of time and his full attention, even when other customers are waiting. He is not fussy, but very precise. His cutting is confident and quick. You can tell he has seen it all and knows what to do. The first time he saw me he was able to fix some things that the last barber (another "on location" haircut) had not done so well. In his gentle manner, he told me what to watch for and ask for. After visiting Sal's I met my four sisters in New Hampshire. Even my sisters said it is the best haircut I have had in a long time. Spending as much time away from home as I do, I really appreciate those rare finds- the people and places that make a town special. Sal's is definitely one of those parts of Gloucester.
