This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't drive away...like I just about did…read more If you're into antiques and thrifting check out Gilroy's Antiques (and some furniture) in Jefferson. The owner is 95, sweet as apple pie, and will unfortunately be closing her business next summer. Art deco glass, vintage dinnerware, vintage tools, smalls of every kind, furniture, etc. Stuff in here is stacked and packed. In some aisles it's tough to turn around. Just back out slowly. If you can't find something here to take home you were just window shopping to begin with. A real hidden gem of a shop.

This is a must stop…read more This is a great place to learn about furniture, craftsmanship, and 19th century Iowa History. RVP has a couple dozen prototype pieces of furniture that are representative of what was made in Iowa in 1875. Robby makes the furniture with the same tools from 1875, with the same wood, with all wooden joints. Although the display furniture (prototype) is not for sale, one can order based upon it choosing the type of wood and finish that you want. Understanding that high quality furniture is not cheap, I was very surprised at the relatively reasonable prices (for high quality furniture). I have seen much lesser quality pieces elsewhere at much higher prices. We had a very interesting and informative 15-20 presentation/discussion about the furniture, the workshop, the process, and the history.

The time that I came I got a flight of their alcoholic ciders which were delicious (the blackberry was my fave) and we also got a quick hay ride around the place. They have a nice gift shop as well with a lot of yummy goods and some little souvenirs. I definitely would recommend and want to go back and bring my nieces and nephews to take part in some of the other activities. I think some of the other kid activities might cost money but for this trip the only things I paid for were the goods I received (drinks and gift shop products) which was awesome compared to other places I've been.

The grounds were huge; the activities & games for the children, the goats, the slides, and all of the treats sold there in the store were quite impressive!! We were overdue for a check and tuneup on our central a/c. This time we had to wait several weeks for an appointment but it was not an emergency so we were ok to wait. Turns out our appointment was scheduled for the first day of the June heat wave. Shortly after Mark arrived, he showed us that our blower capacitor needed to be replaced, giving us a bunch of technical measurements that I did not understand at all! However, since our unit is somewhere between 8 and 10 years old, a replacement part did not seem out of the question and our total bill was about just over $150. What I appreciate about Greens is that you are given a time window, called when you are the next service call and called again when the tech is on the way.
