Jonathan Behr saved our wedding! But first -- this man is an artist. His suits are truly exceptional. His passion is clear. His craftsmanship is unparalleled. And it just so happens, he's also a really nice guy. Initially, we made the mistake of ordering a suit from different bespoke tailors in town (NOT Jonathan) and we were told two weeks before our wedding that the suit wasn't going to be ready despite ordering it months in advance. These particular bespoke tailors (as many of them do we've come to learn) outsource the bulk of their labor to overseas countries and will only make minor adjustments themselves once the suit is shipped back for your fitting. (But not Jonathan! Every single part of the suit-making process is done entirely in-house with him and his team.) So, the reason behind the initial suit not being ready: it was stuck somewhere in production overseas. We called Jonathan after hours on a Saturday and much to our surprise, he answered! (And he was even on vacation at the time.) We explained our plight of having a suit-less groom two weeks before our wedding and he kindly (and calmly) agreed to help us. He got back from his vacation the following Saturday, which gave him exactly one week to make a custom suit from scratch. A tall order, indeed. But, lo and behold, he got it done! Awesome experience. The only place I will go for suits again! I started working with Johnathan on a bespoke suit. He started off with guiding me on color selections, what's going to look good given my profession, skin tone, hair color, etc. Next came the in person measurements: Johnathan listened to my pinch points and took extensive measurements. I came back for an initial, fitting. In this meeting, he provided a baseline cut, and made adjustments. I came back twice, once more for a second round on the first cut of the suit to ensure a good fit, and then the final touches and pickup a couple days later. The suit is perfect. It fits perfect, the colors and fabric are amazing. The feel is beyond any "made to measure" suit I've had done. Furthermore, looking at me in one suit, Johnathan pointed out some of the weaknesses of the made to measure, and SHOWED me how his suit was refining the fit, and custom tailored for me. I have been complimented multiple times on the Johnathan Behr suit. It feels amazing. Wears amazing. It's perfect. But it was Jonathan's commitment to ensuring the fit was perfect, and not cutting any corners in terms of time or quality, that made the experience top notch. I approached Johnathan with a far flung request: to find an olive colored fabric similar to one discontinued by a major suit maker. I contacted several other bespoke clothiers (Cad & Dandy, Huntsman, Greenfield, and Michael Andrews) with the same request, but were unwilling to spend time in finding the right color or texture of the fabric in question. Johnathan, however, rose to the occasion and expressed enthusiastic interest to helping me find the right fabric. He mailed several swatches to my residence in NY. Despite my alerting him that his first attempt was unsuccessful, he did not relent! He continued to investigate, and was successful on his second attempt! Once he found the fabric, I made another challenging request: create the suit during a three week long visit to Los Angeles. During a series of three visits Johnathan met my wife, and I learned about his passion for his vocation, his decades long collaboration with his tailors, and his love of travel to Spain (Asturias). His close attention to detail allowed him to identify areas to improve the suit during a final (third) fitting, which prevented him from providing the suit prior to my departure date. Nevertheless, Johnathan fulfilled his promise of mailing the suit to my NY address well ahead of my scheduled event! I was immediately struck by the sense of style and class that the site presented and knew, without even having to meet Johnathan, that this was the clothier I wanted my husband to work with. Showing my husband the website, he jumped at the chance to meet Johnathan and talk about shirts and suits that would make him (a bigger guy) look as good as John Hamm or Flea! He's frequently in the LA area and it was no problem scheduling an appointment. Being from the UK, my husband is picky about suits and given he'd worked in such an informal place of work, he surprised me with his demanding nature when it came to the fabrics and attention to detail. I hadn't realized that in his earlier career, he'd worked in the financial district of London and so he really appreciates good looking, well-made suits. Johnathan met every single expectation. He elegantly took control of my husbands' wardrobe, interviewing him and learning about his career, his current role and his aspirations. They then looked over appropriate materials for the look of both the shirts and the suit, and again, surprising me, my husband went with a "classic" pin-stripe suit. What made this even more special was this suit was going to be the outfit he wore during his naturalization ceremony, and so it had to be perfect. Johnathan and his team were great. They listened to what he wanted, and made sure the fit was absolutely spot on. The shirts are great - excellent fit and quality, and the suit is beautiful. It takes 40 pounds off my husband, and he wore it to his naturalization ceremony very proudly, complete with small American pin. Clothing that fits you well translates to confidence. When you are physically comfortable in material that moves with, instead of against, you don't fidget or readjust. This means a great deal since he gives presentations quite often. This, again, was completely out of character for my husband but the end result was another amazing bespoke suit. You have to wait for a bespoke suit or item of clothing, you may have to sit down and leaf through material and colour palette until you find something that suits you eye. You may get fitted up to 3-times to make sure everything is as it should be. This process takes time, and so does creating the garment. I went to him on Oct 8, 2019, it was the first meeting. I want to make a Bespoke suit for my Master's graduation. I found him online because of an article written by CNN that he made suits for Fifty Shades of Grey movie (can find it on his website too). At the first meeting, I told him I want the same blue fabric with the suit for Fifty Shades. He said "ok" then showed me a Huddersfield H7300 fabric, "it's this one." he said. He asked $3200 for a 2-piece suit. I was OK with the price, then he took my measurement. I paid $1600 for the first time. After I went home, I compared the color, but I found the color looks different with what I want. So, I sent some pics to him to double make sure if the color is correct. He replied, "I promise". Two weeks later I went for the first try. Once I saw the suit, I realized this was not the same blue fabric that we discussed. I argued with him and stayed in his shop for about 1.5 hr. After all the other customers left. He said:" let me tell you the truth. The fabrics were from the custom designer. I can only use my memory to find a similar color for you. If you want to change fabric, you need to pay $400". WHAT? It means I need to pay for his mistakes, and I also need to wait for 2 more weeks. Unbelievable! Behr lied to his customer! OKEY! EXCEPT FOR THE COLOR ISSUE, LET'S TALK ABOUT THE SUIT! Time goes to the day before graduation I showed this "Bespoke suit" to my dad. He pointed out some problems that the waist area and back area of the suit did not fit for me. So, when I came back to LA, I took the suit to him and told him the problem. He agreed that it should be better. I waited a week for my 5th try on. But the problem still there!!! I can see it very easily. But he said he can't find any problem! After my 15 mins explain. He finally saw it! In his own words, he has been making suits inspired by Savile Row for nearly 30 years. But he can't find out the suit not fit. OMG! And then he called his tailor who does all tailoring works for him. The tailor came to us and found out the waist part not flat because of too much fabric on the shoulder. When you tell people, who working in Bespoke industry you get a Bespoke suit for 6 tries on, they will be surprised. Anyway, after the 6th Try on, the waist area and the back area is flat finally. But last week when I wear my suit to visit my friend. He said my right sleeve shorter than the other. Then we measured the length from each thumb to sleeve. Yes, the right sleeve exactly shorter a quarter inch. Besides, another issue is when I seat in front of the desk, my arm was very tight. I found the reason is the armhole was opened too BIG! Are you kidding me? Behr cannot make fit suit after 6 times adjusts! Today (June 27, 2020) I am hesitating whether to meet him for a summer suit. Because he already gets all my basis, I think the second one will be better, I finally choose to trust Behr one more time. This time he asks $3800 for a new suit. I am trying to ask for a discount because the last suit has too many problems, such as short sleeves, big armholes, and several other mistakes. He agreed with me after he measured the suit. But he said he cannot make any adjusts and he won't give me a discount for a new suit. Guys READ HIS WEBSITE CAREFULLY he said "we will remake custom-made item if it cannot be adjusted to clients satisfaction. (see picture below) According to his website, he supposes to remake one for me, but I just want a discount for a new suit!!! He said to me, "you are a tough customer; we should not do business". I was in need of a few suits as I was about to move to Manhattan to begin my new career on Wall Street. At that point I had one ill-fitting suit and very little idea of what I was looking for / needed. Johnathan has a keen eye for detail and style; you can see the wheels turning in his head as he contemplates various looks, patterns and cuts, diligently debating with himself internally until he makes his suggestions to the client. His shop is welcoming, simple and well-appointed. It's as though you've stepped off of Wilshire Blvd and been transported to a shop on Savile Row, where getting a suit is much more than a few measurements and you're on your way. It is an experience, a discussion and a partnership. Johnathan and I discussed various patterns, cuts, linings etc. as he discerned what exactly I was looking for while helping me along with suggestions drawn from his immense wealth of knowledge. Once we established the style and components of my first two suits, it was time for measurements. It is probably worth noting that I am an incredibly hard individual to fit. I'm a former professional football player and am still fairly large (6'4" and roughly 275lbs), with awkwardly long arms and a relatively narrow waist. I've attempted to have custom shirts and suits made before but most tailors have struggled with fitting my odd dimensions while still allowing me to look stylish and well-fitted. This is where Johnathan and his team really shine. I've never had a jacket fit me so well. It's form-fitting but not overly tight, stylish with a nice silhouette but not stretched. They truly did an amazing job and I will certainly be getting all of my suits, tuxedos, jackets and whatever else I can from them moving forward. I cannot say enough about the quality of my suits and the experience of working with Johnathan and his team. I received an invitation to a formal black-tie event for New Year's Eve with only about one week's notice, and my closet has been bare since the Thomas fire. I live in Ventura, and I first looked to the major, high-end department stores, only to be completely disappointed by the small, pathetic selection. I broadened my search to Los Angeles, where I discovered Mr. Johnathan Behr and his wonderful reviews. I called his store and he answered the phone, then said that he would help me despite my shortened time frame. The result was fabulous; the suits are tailored on site, and I was presented with a perfect-fitting, killer bespoke outfit, and I took a back seat to absolutely no one at the New Year's event, when it came to looking superb. My wife was as pleased as I was. I had high expectations, and I can confirm that he absolutely completely exceeded those expectations. I was hoping for a great suit, and I got it; what I didn't expect was for Mr. Behr to be not only thoroughly professional, but down-to-earth, kind, intelligent, and pleasant to work with. I am so glad I went to Mr. Behr, rather than a nameless department store conglomerate. I wish to make clear that he has more than earned his great reviews, and I give him my highest recommendation. I just had my first bespoke suit made by Jonathan. It was being made for my wedding. It took Jonathan and his staff of tailor's about one month to make the suit. We met every Saturday and progressively fit the suit. I have had suits made in Hong Kong and top designer off the rack suits tailored to fit me. Jonathan was engaging and easy to work with. The suit he made is the best fitting suit that I have. Period. I will have another made in the next few months. The price was not much more than a top off the shelf designer suit, yet you have a perfectly made suit for you - no question the way to go. Update: April 2015. Second suit complete. Really really exceptional. Not sure what I'd get on Seville Row that could be better. The tea and English accent, would be cool I Suppose. I am absurdly picky and this was just great. Al I can say is WOW! I have always wanted a hand tailored suit, but was hesitant because of cost. However, getting married seemed like the best reason ever to do it. Johnathan came up while I was searching and I am soooo glad I took the time to contact him, from the first email to the last fitting Johnathan was incredible. My fiancee and I were trying to find the perfect tuxedo for our wedding. We found something pretty good, but they only rented them out in Australia, and refused to ship one to the US. I went to Johnathan with a couple of pictures of the tuxedo we had in mind, and he designed the entire thing right then and there on a piece of paper. He walked me through choosing the right material and gave me some design pointers based on what I liked from the picture. To say that the final tuxedo fit perfectly was an understatement. Wearing a custom made tuxedo is intoxicating. It's also a little sad, since you suddenly become acutely aware that nothing actually fits you. It's more expensive than buying something premade from a store, but when you slip into a perfectly tailored tuxedo, you know that it was worth the money. If I ever need a custom made suit or tuxedo again, I am going straight back to Johnathan Behr. He's very thorough and informative. His excellent fashion sense helped me out immensely during the initial design. There were absolutely no surprises.
