Deviren was smiliar.I'm a senior female, a minority, which makes me feel I'm more vulnerable. I went in for a consultation and a second opinion as to what help I can get for very weak legs and spinal stenosis after major scoliosis surgeries several years ago. The doctor walked in without the paper work I had filled in before the consultation. Unlike other doctors, he did not initially check the computer for the results of a couple of tests (MRI, etc) I had taken days before or fill me in on the results. When he finally checked the computer, he had to ask me for my name!! He came across as defensive, disrespectful and unsympathetic of my complaint; arrogant, condescending and did not provide any helpful advice at all. I told him I desperately wanted some help, but all he did was made me feel bad. I've never felt this way about a doctor before. To maintain my dignity, I decided it was pointless to stay with such an unprofessional doctor. But he got up first and shouted that I made him late. He came in late and when I checked my watch, the consultation barely lasted half an hour. I had wasted an afternoon, plus spent hours traveling to a location over 2 days for the tests but still am not quite sure of the end results. I had a good cry when I got home.

In September of 2016, after months of constant pain, a specialist found a mass on my spine. He sent…read moreme over to Dr. Deviren and his partner. Our first meeting was a quick review of that information and then I was sent to have a comprehensive MRI of my spine, and then a biopsy. When I visited Dr. Deviren again, we sat and talked about what exactly was going on (and he was very clear, and explained it very well) and what the treatment plan was. Now, the only reason I'm gonna divulge what my diagnosis was is so that people can understand how complex of a surgery Dr. Deviren and his team performed. I had an aneurysmal bone cyst that had subsumed nearly my entire T8 and was crushing my spinal cord. I remember Dr. Deviren telling me very frankly that he didn't know why I wasn't paralyzed or dead yet, but to keep it up until surgery (i waited about two and a half weeks). Here's what was on the list: he and his team had to extract a tumor from around my spinal cord, replace my T8 with a supportive device (bc the vertebral body was almost too damaged to save), give me a bone graft, and fuse nine of my vertebrae to keep my spine stable. Dr. Deviren and his team did a nearly flawless job. Even three years later, all the hardware is still settled and I've had no problems with it. For the surgery alone (and the kind, attentive care from everyone assigned to me during a rocky recovery), I can't rate him fewer than five stars. The one complaint I do have is that I still have lasting pain. It's not his fault--it's basically an inevitability for an extensive issue and an invasive procedure--but his attitude towards me and my pain after surgery was...less-than-ideal. He's not a cruel guy, I just think that, like most surgeons, his bedside manner is a little lacking. And, because he does his job so well and knows so much, that when he's not quite sure about what to do for something that can't be fixed via surgery he kind of just...doesn't believe it exists. I don't blame him for it; he did his job, and this wasn't a result of his actions. However, he completely dismissed my severe pain, and while he's an absolutely spectacular surgeon and DEFINITELY SAVED MY LIFE (the reason I can't rate fewer than five stars), I felt like I couldn't give him an honest review without mentioning it. Dr. Deviren, I can't thank you enough for all the work you and your team did for me.

The docs at OTI worked miracles to reconstruct my arms, realign my pelvis, and ensure that the neck/back injuries were stabilized. He is the finest doctor I have come across and Colleen and the rest of the staff were amazing helping me, and giving me the finest care pre post and surgery. They are what medicine should be all about. And to top it off, he's a cowboy who knows a good horse! Serious cool points there. I completely shattered my femur in a horse training accident the year before, and had a titanium rod put in, by another doctor in my area, then began the long slow pt process. I realized that something was not right. I was in pain all the time, had a severe limp despite all the efforts of my physical therapy group in Monterey, and was getting worse rather than better despite my bone growing back in. I am 28 now, if I had not fallen in their hands, I would be in serious chronic pain and walk with a shuffle/limp for the rest of my life. First off, Dr. McClellan believed that something was up and got me in for a CT scan that showed that my leg and hardware had "healed" 36 degrees off. To say this made sitting, standing, walking, and doing anything a struggle was an understatement of the century. I couldn't work and was really struggling for a long time in every way. Before Dr. McClellan, many doctors turned down my case and I was losing hope at ever becoming better. Fortunately, he said I'll fix this and man did he! He set that sucker at the perfect angle and made it as straight as its mate on the left and put in a much better rod and hardware. He had tons of people in that room helping him work on me. I want to thank all of them as well! I was scared but everyone was very kind and got me in the right mindset before I went under and they worked their magic. The minute I woke up from surgery, I felt giant relief and the pain in my hip was gone. I knew immediately that his plan had worked. 8 months later, my limp is almost totally gone. My pain is at a level that doesn't affect me unless I push the envelope. Thanks to Dr. McClellan and his amazing staff, I'm making a huge comeback and am now taking back control of the chronic pain and my life. If you are unlikely enough to need orthopaedic surgery, get your broken butt to these guys, your luck will change for the better!

Unfortunately, my experience with his medical assistant at the Brentwood office was very disappointing due to poor follow-through and unprofessional communication. I paid the front desk $25 to complete and sign my return-to-work form. After following up multiple times, I was repeatedly told it would take 10 business days to complete. However, it ultimately took over 3 1/2 weeks for the documents to be returned to me. Because my employer can terminate my position if I do not return within 12 weeks, this delay significantly impacted my return-to-work timeline and forced me to remain off work for nearly four months. While Dr. Kronick himself is wonderful, the office staff and administrative process need improvement. There is no excuse for losing forms or causing excessive delays, especially when patients are being charged $25 per form for completion. The delay directly affected my employment situation and created unnecessary stress during my recovery.
