Their toughness, coachability, technique, strength, and so much more. Dr. Ferguson has created some genuine mat monsters. Something I found very unique is he is bilingual, I haven't seen that stated anywhere. He'd coach some students in English, switch to Spanish for other students, and back to English for others.
