This review is for Rochelle Sunglao, a highly experienced stylist and colorist at John Perry Salon. I've been going to Rochelle for approx 12 years and have followed her to 3 different salons. Her styling work is awesome: she listens carefully to my concerns and adds her own artistry. I'm ALWAYS happy with the result. Rochelle's clientele is diverse: women, men, people of all ages (I'm a senior). She adapts to each person's hair with great empathy and kindness. No drama! Otherwise, why would I drive all the way down from Rancho Bernardo? FWIW, I've heard nothing but praise for John Perry himself, though I haven't used his services personally. John did a great job. I put my hair in his hands and he happily took charge. I came in with straight blah hair and walked out with a wow! He knew exactly what he was doing and explained what he was doing in detail. You can tell he clearly enjoys what he does. His salon is modern & designed moderate yet beautiful. This salon is tucked away in a beautiful, light-filled greenery. It's very welcoming and cozy and there aren't may clients there at once, they seem to spread it out so its a very intimate relaxing way to spend an afternoon being pampered. We have had a good working relationship since 2019. He calls me as I'm waking up to try to get me in early this morning versus the later set appointment. I declined, respect the set appointment. I had a pet emergency that happened very suddenly right when I was going to leave for the appointment, it demanded my complete detention. In the process of the emergency he messaged me asking where I was.. I responded in kind about the emergency demanding my full attention. He completely dismissed what was going on and was quick to consider me a no-show and charged me 50%. in angry Response to his disregard for my situation with my pets I responded that I would drop everything leaving my pets and fly off to see him to satisfy HIM, that I was on my way! The appointment was for a couple of hours... And I would've only been maybe 20 minutes late. He messages me don't bother... It's too late he's labeled me "no-show" with the charge. Disgusted with his blatant dismissal of my situation I responded that I was personally offended by his behavior, attitude and disregard - it was all about him regardless, showing his truer colors; that His attitude and actions were jeopardizing our continued relationship. I was still dealing with the emergency when he called so I couldn't take it. He then texts with continued behavior, attitude and action. I took that as a grounds to signal him that our business relationship is concluded. He responds, "thank you"... read more

I have now been going to John Perry for over a year- and its been an amazing partnership to have great hair. John really listens to what I want out of my hair every time I see him. He also has a ton of experience and great insight into what will work for my hair and what will not. He is also updated on the latest products and techniques that can help improve my hair. He truly cares about his patrons and what is best for them. I have finally found my "person." From the moment I walk in John treats me like a celebrity. Coffee waiting, relaxed music, updates on our lives, a hug. Head and neck massage with the wash. Hair styled and ready to go after we are done and then a plan for the next visit. It's not easy to get my hair right but John does every time. I think my favorite part about him as a stylist is his ability to listen to your wants and provide his personal input. He is creative and can find different styles when you're bored of your current look. Most importantly, he is patient and devotes time to his clients for the extra finishing touch. I first met John in March of 2013 as a hair virgin. I had not had a hairstylist or specialist (I was in my 30's) of any kind. I had no prior knowledge of color, hair products or maintenance care at all. At the time I was looking for a mild and subtle change and John was very welcoming and warm. He consulted with me first, asked me all the important questions, listened to me and offered his insight. At each visit he reconsults, looks over my hair and discusses our plan. He makes recommendations on the best way to go about achieving the look I (or you) desire while keeping the budget in mind. Since I have met John I have had several changes to my hair by color and style. He has been on quiet a ride with me but at every turn I have looked and felt fabulous. The current salon is tucked away in what I would consider a magical tree house that is quiet and calming. I will be honest, what I look forward to the most are his head and neck massages during my wash; it is heavenly. I am happy to say that John has been my one and only therefore I do not plan on going anywhere else because not only is he a talented hair specialist but he has maintained a professional and loving friendship and those are the qualities that ensue trust and longevity. This post is long overdue! I found John after a girl friend of mine referred me when I moved to San Diego a few years ago, and I followed him from his previous salon to Luco. I absolutely love the ambience of the salon, the setting is peaceful with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto trees, you almost forget you're in urban San Diego. John is knowledgeable in his craft, creative, and a perfectionist. I have never been one to be very experimental with my hair and have had the same long, curly hair since I was a teenager. He knew how to cut my hair to keep its' length and curls, and enhance my hairs' natural characteristics. Finally, I had it with my long hair but was not feeling confident to cut it all off - I am so glad I sought his input! Not only did he encourage me to do it, he made it happen and I have received so many positive compliments on the change. John is a master stylist with long hair, short hair, color, you name it. John Perry has the magic touch! I am a brunette with naturally long curly hair, who hadn't had a professional haircut/color in 25 years. John worked his magic and transformed my (destroyed box-colored hair) into a beautiful "chocolate" brown with natural highlight. And I'm not done! I am still a work in progress! (I have a lot of hair!) but already I love the transformation and my look. He also knew how to cut my wild long curly hair- in a way that looks flowing like waterfalls. I have been a client of John Perry's now for a couple of years. Over a year ago, I got a gift certificate for my birthday for another salon and stylist and a year later it is still on my fridge. John is, first off, a great stylist. From cut to color to foils to a Brazilian blowout. He works with you and listens but is also the expert and shares his opinions. I always look forward to what we will do next. But not only is he a good stylist when it comes to your hair; he also has a very dynamic personality. It's always a pleasure to spend 2 hours in his chair and it seems to fly by. He takes care of my product needs and he is always accommodating when it comes to getting in. Not only that by the salon where he works, Luco Hair and Skin, is so inviting. From the décor, to the lighting and the giant windows that look outside. All of the staff there are so warm and friendly and the music and ambiance is relaxing.
