John did a great job. I put my hair in his hands and he happily took charge. I came in with straight blah hair and walked out with a wow! He knew exactly what he was doing and explained what he was doing in detail. You can tell he clearly enjoys what he does. His salon is modern & designed moderate yet beautiful. He made me feel super comfortable and we were chatting in no time about a little bit of everything. He will make you feel even more beautiful when you leave! Found my new stylist! I totally recommend him ! read more

This review is for Rochelle Sunglao, a highly experienced stylist and colorist at John Perry Salon. I've been going to Rochelle for approx 12 years and have followed her to 3 different salons. Her styling work is awesome: she listens carefully to my concerns and adds her own artistry. I'm ALWAYS happy with the result. Rochelle's clientele is diverse: women, men, people of all ages (I'm a senior). She adapts to each person's hair with great empathy and kindness. No drama! Otherwise, why would I drive all the way down from Rancho Bernardo? FWIW, I've heard nothing but praise for John Perry himself, though I haven't used his services personally. The salon itself is comfortable (Rochelle is upstairs), and the location is just a block from the 94 freeway exit. read more

I cannot express how happy I am that I found this salon! I needed a last minute emergency haircut, John was so accommodating and got me in that night and Mayari stayed late to fix my hair. She's an absolute wizard with scissors! I got a botched haircut and she turned it around better than what I had hoped for. I feel so much more confident and beautiful, I'm beyond grateful! Thank you John Perry! read more

I've been going to John for years. He's terrific! He takes his time to listen to what you want, offers great suggestions and delivers. Plus that great head massage! (And Ryan, the salon pup, is wonderful.) read more

This salon is tucked away in a beautiful, light-filled greenery. It's very welcoming and cozy and there aren't may clients there at once, they seem to spread it out so its a very intimate relaxing way to spend an afternoon being pampered. John Perry is my hair specialist and he's so great and takes the art of coloring to a whole other level. He cares, he's inspired, and he listens...I trust him and his vision and I always leave there feeling great! *bring extra cash too because they have an awesome selection of attire and jewelry for great prices read more

John Perry Salon - From bleak to bright :) such beautiful shades, thanks John P! - Hair Stylists Near Me - San Diego, California

We have had a good working relationship since 2019. He calls me as I'm waking up to try to get me in early this morning versus the later set appointment. I declined, respect the set appointment. I had a pet emergency that happened very suddenly right when I was going to leave for the appointment, it demanded my complete detention. In the process of the emergency he messaged me asking where I was.. I responded in kind about the emergency demanding my full attention. He completely dismissed what was going on and was quick to consider me a no-show and charged me 50%. in angry Response to his disregard for my situation with my pets I responded that I would drop everything leaving my pets and fly off to see him to satisfy HIM, that I was on my way! The appointment was for a couple of hours... And I would've only been maybe 20 minutes late. He messages me don't bother... It's too late he's labeled me "no-show" with the charge. Disgusted with his blatant dismissal of my situation I responded that I was personally offended by his behavior, attitude and disregard - it was all about him regardless, showing his truer colors; that His attitude and actions were jeopardizing our continued relationship. I was still dealing with the emergency when he called so I couldn't take it. He then texts with continued behavior, attitude and action. I took that as a grounds to signal him that our business relationship is concluded. He responds, "thank you"... read more

I have now been going to John Perry for over a year- and its been an amazing partnership to have great hair. John really listens to what I want out of my hair every time I see him. He also has a ton of experience and great insight into what will work for my hair and what will not. He is also updated on the latest products and techniques that can help improve my hair. He truly cares about his patrons and what is best for them. I have finally found my "person." From the moment I walk in John treats me like a celebrity. Coffee waiting, relaxed music, updates on our lives, a hug. Head and neck massage with the wash. Hair styled and ready to go after we are done and then a plan for the next visit. I love the location too :) Already looking forward to my next appointment. read more

John Perry Salon - I was a brunette! ;) - Hair Stylists Near Me - San Diego, California

Pretty good prices. Has a good eye for color and trendy styles. He tends to value his personal opinion about what you should do with your hair above yours, so makes for awkward experience. read more

Long overdue review...John is amazing and he has just transformed my hair. His talent is overwhelming...I can't thank him enough for guiding me through change and of course...a hint of color! Glad I got that first appointment! read more

I've been coming here for a few months to see John and he is the absolute best! He always has such great ideas and insights on what to do to my hair since I've always kept it the same. Everything he's done has always been amazing and he will never let you walk out unhappy with your hair. He's such a professional and has definitely mastered his craft read more

It's not easy to get my hair right but John does every time. I think my favorite part about him as a stylist is his ability to listen to your wants and provide his personal input. He is creative and can find different styles when you're bored of your current look. Most importantly, he is patient and devotes time to his clients for the extra finishing touch. His prices are beyond reasonable for the quality of cut. So happy to have found a great stylist in SD!! read more

John is a true artist! My hair is a beautiful color, compliments my skin tone and has a natural look. Several people have commented on how healthy my hair looks, no one has said, I like the New Color, which is what I was hoping for. Fresh and natural. I've referred a few people to Edge and I myself plan to be a devoted client of John Perry. read more

I first met John in March of 2013 as a hair virgin. I had not had a hairstylist or specialist (I was in my 30's) of any kind. I had no prior knowledge of color, hair products or maintenance care at all. At the time I was looking for a mild and subtle change and John was very welcoming and warm. He consulted with me first, asked me all the important questions, listened to me and offered his insight. At each visit he reconsults, looks over my hair and discusses our plan. He makes recommendations on the best way to go about achieving the look I (or you) desire while keeping the budget in mind. Since I have met John I have had several changes to my hair by color and style. He has been on quiet a ride with me but at every turn I have looked and felt fabulous. The current salon is tucked away in what I would consider a magical tree house that is quiet and calming. I will be honest, what I look forward to the most are his head and neck massages during my wash; it is heavenly. I am happy to say that John has been my one and only therefore I do not plan on going anywhere else because not only is he a talented hair specialist but he has maintained a professional and loving friendship and those are the qualities that ensue trust and longevity. So, if all the qualities I mentioned speak to you please give John the wand and let him be your fairly hair godmother! read more

I love love love John Perry. He is talented and an excellent stylist. He takes the time to hear concerns about your hair and he offers suggestions. I'm from Georgia and John is the best stylist I've seen in Ga or Cali. Two of my sons also have their hair cut and styled by John and one of them is from New York City. read more

I had to start with John because the hair stylist I originally had decided to move. So I was hesitant at first because I'm kinda, ok, extremely picky about my hair. But he came highly recommended so I took a chance and I'm so glad that I did. He did exactly what I was hoping for and even taught me a few things. He's professional, extremely knowledgeable and easy to take to when you're sitting in his chair with scissors in his hand. Would recommend him time and time again! read more

MR. JOHN PERRY is the best. I always feel welcomed when coming to the salon. You can feel his passion and enthusiasm for what he does as he is doing your hair. He has colored/cut/styled my hair twice so far and the compliments I receive always pour in!! And the salon itself is a vibrant and chic environment that you cant help but feel comfortable in! I definitely recommend him as a friend and HAIR ARTIST :) read more

I felt as though he deserves to get this review. He did absolutely amazing job on my hair. Not only that, he's fun and easy to talk to. He gave me so many tips and tricks on what to do with my hair to make it easier to brush out, when I have a terrible time brushing out my hair, and they really worked! I would recommend him to anybody, family and friends! he did a great job and I will continue going back to him. He is my new hair stylus, and one I can trust. read more

This post is long overdue! I found John after a girl friend of mine referred me when I moved to San Diego a few years ago, and I followed him from his previous salon to Luco. I absolutely love the ambience of the salon, the setting is peaceful with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto trees, you almost forget you're in urban San Diego. John is knowledgeable in his craft, creative, and a perfectionist. I have never been one to be very experimental with my hair and have had the same long, curly hair since I was a teenager. He knew how to cut my hair to keep its' length and curls, and enhance my hairs' natural characteristics. Finally, I had it with my long hair but was not feeling confident to cut it all off - I am so glad I sought his input! Not only did he encourage me to do it, he made it happen and I have received so many positive compliments on the change. John is a master stylist with long hair, short hair, color, you name it. I have referred everyone I know to him because I am so happy to have found him! Thank you John for all you do, and the time and care that goes into each visit! read more

John has been doing my hair for almost six years now and he is absolutely AMAZING! He's a great listener and always has ideas to bring a hair vision to life. The way he sees color is like none other; it's artistic! My hair has been multiple shades of red, blonde, and brunette with him and I always get TONS of compliments. He's hands down the best stylist I've ever been to and many of my friends agree. I've referred several friends and my husband to John and everybody loves him! He's always upbeat and happy and is so dedicated to making everyone feel more beautiful. Love, love, LOVE John!!! :) read more

John Perry has the magic touch! I am a brunette with naturally long curly hair, who hadn't had a professional haircut/color in 25 years. John worked his magic and transformed my (destroyed box-colored hair) into a beautiful "chocolate" brown with natural highlight. And I'm not done! I am still a work in progress! (I have a lot of hair!) but already I love the transformation and my look. He also knew how to cut my wild long curly hair- in a way that looks flowing like waterfalls. I came home and my husband said, "Wow! You look like a movie star!" Thank you John for making this middle-aged woman feel fabulous! read more

I have been a client of John Perry's now for a couple of years. Over a year ago, I got a gift certificate for my birthday for another salon and stylist and a year later it is still on my fridge. John is, first off, a great stylist. From cut to color to foils to a Brazilian blowout. He works with you and listens but is also the expert and shares his opinions. I always look forward to what we will do next. But not only is he a good stylist when it comes to your hair; he also has a very dynamic personality. It's always a pleasure to spend 2 hours in his chair and it seems to fly by. He takes care of my product needs and he is always accommodating when it comes to getting in. Not only that by the salon where he works, Luco Hair and Skin, is so inviting. From the décor, to the lighting and the giant windows that look outside. All of the staff there are so warm and friendly and the music and ambiance is relaxing. If you are looking for an amazing stylist and an overall enjoyable experience; I would recommend John Perry and Luco Hair and Skin. read more
