His current 2nd grade has also been bad. His teacher left in October, kept pushing her return just to not come back at all. His class has been covered with substitute teachers. I signed him up for an afterschool program only for them to tell me they had no room, however the afterschool program made sure to charge me the registration fee and weekly fee.

Every morning she is out greeting the kids (ALL she knows by name) and parents. She will stop and take the time to speak with anyone who has a suggestion or concern. AND she goes to all school functions. Besides that, she is a fun person with a great personality. The parents are very friendly...you always feel welcome there. I honestly wasn't expecting the other parents to be so involved and so nice to be around. This makes you want to go to all functions because you know you will have a blast. I can't speak for all teachers...but the kids I know all seem happy with their teachers. MY sons kindegarten teacher is top notch in my book! Mrs. Claussen has a wonderful way of being warm and loving with the kids and at the same time, is no pushover and the kids respect her for that. She has a great sense of humor and a wonderful teaching style. There's my 2 cents (more like 80 cents!) If you are deciding whether to have your child attend John Muir, please call Dr. Dunleavy and schedule a tour, you will not be disappointed.

I initially became interested in The Nueva School after subscribing to receive job postings. What…read moreimmediately stood out to me was how frequently new openings were being posted -- sometimes seemingly every week. As an educator, that naturally made me wonder about staff turnover. Eventually, I applied for a position and interviewed with someone who honestly seemed very kind and thoughtful. I left the interview feeling optimistic, especially because I was told I would hear back by the end of the week. In education hiring, timelines usually move quickly because schools want to secure teachers for the upcoming school year before candidates accept other opportunities. Weeks went by with complete silence. No follow-up, no rejection email, nothing. Wanting to close the loop professionally, I eventually emailed to thank the interviewer for her time and wish her and her team the best for the upcoming year. Oddly, the message bounced back, even though I had been communicating through that exact same email thread previously. At that point, I honestly began wondering whether the communication had somehow been compromised or whether I had fallen into some strange scam situation. I even called the school directly to verify that the interviewer actually worked there, and thankfully she did. The school then provided me with another email address associated with their official domain. I forwarded my message there as well, but once again received no response at all. Whether the message reached her or not, the overall experience felt surprisingly unprofessional and dismissive, especially after what had initially seemed like such a warm interaction. After later reading additional reviews and experiences from others, I ultimately realized this probably was not the right fit for me anyway. Still, basic communication and professional courtesy go a long way, particularly in education, where relationships and respect matter.

When we drop him off, he gives his teachers big hugs. All of them are so sweet too. I'm also impressed with the organized calendar we get every month. He engages in fun activities related to the holidays, palersize, Friday bicycle day, and more. He even says his prayers before lunch, which we've incorporated at dinner time at home. Logistically, I'm so thankful for the hours offered. We don't always have him there all day , but we can if needed. Additionally, I appreciate the respect they have for his clothes. Despite all the art and outside play, he always comes back clean and never has missing clothes (quite the opposite of his original daycare). They use brightwheel to track everything so we know about his every snack, potty, and nap. It's helpful as we potty train him too. Lastly, the pricing is fair. We are so happy we found this school where he is learning and is safe!

The school has awesome hours and a big playground for kids of mixed ages to play together. They also have fun activities like Apple picking, music time, librarian visits, and even an insect guy (my daughter held some type of centipede and was very proud, haha!) Communication with school was easy with the app and overall, we felt our daughter was cared for and safe. They also have a Christmas dinner event for all the families which brings everyone together. One small complaint is that my daughter got sick a lot but she sure did build up her immune system in retrospect!

We currently have a rising 4th grader and a rising 7th grader. Our younger daughter has attended since kindergarten, and our older daughter transferred from public school at the end of 2nd grade after the pandemic. She was behind academically when she arrived, but thanks to the incredible support of her 2nd grade and later her 4th grade teacher, she caught up and is now thriving and excelling. We really feel that her teachers saw her potential and gave her the confidence and support she needed. Good Shepherd strikes a great balance between strong academics and a well-rounded education. The curriculum is engaging and encourages students to think critically and stay curious. As our older daughter prepares for high school, we feel confident she is being challenged academically and is well prepared for rigorous programs. The junior high science program has been especially impressive, with opportunities to do some interesting lab projects and participate in local science fairs. As a non-Catholic family, we've also had a very positive experience with the religious education. We appreciate that it focuses on kindness, morality, service, and learning about the Bible and Catholic traditions without feeling overwhelming or exclusionary. The art program is wonderful, and the art teacher is incredibly dedicated. This year she put on a truly impressive art show which showcased the students' creativity in such a beautiful and professional way. The same can be said for the music program. PE is also one of my daughters' favorite parts of the week thanks to the fantastic athletics director. He introduces the kids to so many different sports and activities and makes fitness genuinely fun. Spanish is offered to all students, and although I can't say that my daughters can speak much Spanish, they are able to recognize and understand the language when we are out and/or traveling. One of the hidden gems of the school is the extracurricular theater program. My younger daughter absolutely loves participating. The productions are far beyond what you might expect from an elementary school, with beautiful costumes, impressive staging, and real instruction in acting and singing. It's been such a confidence builder. The after-school CYO sports program has also been an amazing experience. My girls have played volleyball and basketball and have loved it! They have had the opportunity to compete at a high level, have a great time, and connect with classmates and children from other schools in the community. Another huge plus is the extended care program, which has been invaluable for our family. It's honestly one of the best deals around--just a few dollars per child per hour--and offers so much more than simply supervision. The director does an incredible job keeping everything organized and creates fun, engaging activities that keep kids of all ages entertained. Even our older daughter who is too cool for childcare feels ok about going to extended care because she has a good time. The principal and staff at Good Shepherd are warm, approachable, and genuinely care about every child. The parent community is also amazing. We've met wonderful families and built lasting friendships through the school; everyone is so supportive of us and our kids, and they are so fun! The people at this school and the strong sense of community are probably the biggest reason I love the school. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the tuition is very reasonable for a private school, and the flexible tuition model with volunteer opportunities makes it even more accessible for families. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our experience and I wholeheartedly recommend Good Shepherd to any family!

My two oldest sons are in middle school and are thriving. The culture is that kids want to make good grades and strive for success by team teacher and group projects. OSS' has an experiential learning model where students engage with the real world and the community through field trips like walking to the post office and fire department or visiting the SF botanic gardens or Bay Area museums. "Experiential learning helps students apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations, fostering skills that are useful in their future careers and in their lives. Students learn that they can make a difference as a citizen and a part of a community." I love our school. Our teachers are fantastic - some of the most gifted educators in the field. And our principal Tony is a gem; he is the perfect leader for us! I'm grateful we could be a part of this fantastic community.

My three kids have had a wonderful experience at Ocean Shore School. And so have I as a parent. Why…read moredoes my experience matter? Because Ocean Shore is a unique project-based learning school that invites parents to participate and learn alongside their kids. That's one of the things that appealed most to me when we were selecting which school to send my eldest to. I still remember sitting on the edge, praying so hard that we would win the lottery and get a coveted spot at this school. We have had a wonderful experience with most of our teachers. They are so creative and dedicated. The teachers make this school very special, and the community makes it exceptional. I love the way teachers embrace parent involvement not just as fundraisers but in the classroom, collaborating with them. About once a month, the whole class goes out into the world and learns outside the classroom. In kindergarten, we took the kids to the farmer's market, to the zoo, and to wade in tidepools at the beach. These field trips grow with the kids. My favorite overnight field trip is to Fort Ross, an old Russian Fur Trading Fort. It's a living history program that involves several months of prep where parents and students work together to make costumes, prepare food we will cook on oven fires, and items we will sell at the store. The kids take on roles of people who lived in the fort and learn to dance the troika. It's the kind of experience that can only be pulled off by a community of families working together. Two of my oldest kids are now off to college. Ocean Shore prepared them well for high school and they are now thriving in college. We often saw, Ocean Shore is a family of families. The community is incredibly open, inclusive, and supportive. Friendships made at Ocean Shore last a life time.
