When we drop him off, he gives his teachers big hugs. All of them are so sweet too. I'm also impressed with the organized calendar we get every month. He engages in fun activities related to the holidays, palersize, Friday bicycle day, and more. He even says his prayers before lunch, which we've incorporated at dinner time at home. Logistically, I'm so thankful for the hours offered. We don't always have him there all day , but we can if needed. Additionally, I appreciate the respect they have for his clothes. Despite all the art and outside play, he always comes back clean and never has missing clothes (quite the opposite of his original daycare). They use brightwheel to track everything so we know about his every snack, potty, and nap. It's helpful as we potty train him too. Lastly, the pricing is fair. We are so happy we found this school where he is learning and is safe!

The school has awesome hours and a big playground for kids of mixed ages to play together. They also have fun activities like Apple picking, music time, librarian visits, and even an insect guy (my daughter held some type of centipede and was very proud, haha!) Communication with school was easy with the app and overall, we felt our daughter was cared for and safe. They also have a Christmas dinner event for all the families which brings everyone together. One small complaint is that my daughter got sick a lot but she sure did build up her immune system in retrospect!

I can't say much about the school yet since we are waiting to see if my son will be accepted. This…read morereview is based on the school tour and interaction with everyone on site. My experience was great. The tour lasted about an hour and Principal Torres gave a group of 6 parents the tour. We were able to shadow each classroom and speak to the teachers. He answered all our questions with confidence and ensured us he is focused on making positive changes. Every staff member greeted us with a a smile and positive energy. What I love so far is how the staff openly told us their child(ren) were students here and even though they graduated, they are still working here. Everyone told us how much they love this school. Academically, you can see how much the kids learn. They cover every subject required for high school and colleges. Ms. Soulette's syllabus is thorough and includes expectations from students and parents. I'm so impressed with how behaved the kindergarteners were. The first graders are extremely advanced. When asked what they're doing or learning, multiple students raised their hand. When the second and third grade teacher quizzed the students, again, multiple hands were raised. They also have a buddy system for younger students! The playground structure is small but new. They have a basketball court and gym on site. Pick up and drop off was my number one concern but Principal Torres reassured us there isn't much morning traffic with their process.

We consistently hear it from the front office and the teachers. There are rather low standards in academics, with the average that falls below national standard at least in the elementary school. The kindergarten is a complete disaster with 25+ kids; most of the staff that is directly working with kids doesn't even have educational background, yet the school continues to employ them and come up with excuses for poor outcomes.

My two oldest sons are in middle school and are thriving. The culture is that kids want to make good grades and strive for success by team teacher and group projects. OSS' has an experiential learning model where students engage with the real world and the community through field trips like walking to the post office and fire department or visiting the SF botanic gardens or Bay Area museums. "Experiential learning helps students apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations, fostering skills that are useful in their future careers and in their lives. Students learn that they can make a difference as a citizen and a part of a community." I love our school. Our teachers are fantastic - some of the most gifted educators in the field. And our principal Tony is a gem; he is the perfect leader for us! I'm grateful we could be a part of this fantastic community.

Because Ocean Shore is a unique project-based learning school that invites parents to participate and learn alongside their kids. That's one of the things that appealed most to me when we were selecting which school to send my eldest to. I still remember sitting on the edge, praying so hard that we would win the lottery and get a coveted spot at this school. We have had a wonderful experience with most of our teachers. They are so creative and dedicated. The teachers make this school very special, and the community makes it exceptional. I love the way teachers embrace parent involvement not just as fundraisers but in the classroom, collaborating with them. About once a month, the whole class goes out into the world and learns outside the classroom. In kindergarten, we took the kids to the farmer's market, to the zoo, and to wade in tidepools at the beach. These field trips grow with the kids. My favorite overnight field trip is to Fort Ross, an old Russian Fur Trading Fort. It's a living history program that involves several months of prep where parents and students work together to make costumes, prepare food we will cook on oven fires, and items we will sell at the store. The kids take on roles of people who lived in the fort and learn to dance the troika. It's the kind of experience that can only be pulled off by a community of families working together. Two of my oldest kids are now off to college. Ocean Shore prepared them well for high school and they are now thriving in college. We often saw, Ocean Shore is a family of families. The community is incredibly open, inclusive, and supportive. Friendships made at Ocean Shore last a life time.
