Choosing this Montessori preschool was one of the best decisions we made for our son. Ms. Sheila and Ms. Maribel create such a loving and supportive classroom environment. He learned so much and progressed beautifully. We truly saw him grow both academically and socially during his time there. They genuinely care about each child and treat them like family -- they have become like a second family to us. Sadly, we had to leave for personal reasons, but we will always be grateful for the foundation and love they gave our son. My son currently goes to Sheila's In-Home Learning School. He is about to be 19 months old. I signed him up a little after he turned one, and it was the best decision we've ever made. During his first year, we had a nanny who was amazing, but it was difficult to work from home and I felt like he wasn't getting exposed to things that could help him learn while I was working. We really wanted to make sure Marcus, like any other parent, could go to a school that was organized, had rules, and took their job seriously but also a place where he felt comfortable and could socialize. These daycares are so important for the safety and development of our children. When Marcus first started, he would just sit in the corner in his little chair. He had just started learning to walk at home, but when he started with Sheila, he was just taking everything in. He's our first child, and there are no other children around us. His cousins are far away, so the only children he saw were one-offs at the library every other week with the nanny. Within the first week, we were already seeing great developmental jumps from our son. He started walking more, becoming more social, saying more words, and signing things we weren't teaching him at home. He was coming back with new things and even teaching us and we keep up with his learning too. It's been such an amazing and fun journey watching him really grow while at Sheila's. Sheila and Maribel are so great and sweet. They've built a really great community. The parents in this organization are so welcoming and nice. We have a group chat, and everyone supports each other. I think they're really trying to raise good human beings. I see that because Marcus was the youngest when we started, and all the kids were so sweet and welcoming. They would call him "baby Marcus," and I think that's how he gained confidence to play with other kids and toys. When he first started, he had huge separation anxiety and wouldn't go to my mom, grandparents, siblings, or cousins at parties. He would just sit by my side more than other children his age. Moving to daycare really opened him up, and it's just fun to see. He's wanting to connect with others and he's just really smart. I know that has a lot to do with our daycare. We looked at a couple of daycares, but we chose Sheila because she had a set way of doing things that made sense. I appreciated that there were clear goals. For example, when we dropped him off, you had to close the door behind you. They don't slack on that and that makes me feel assured that they are safe. There are a couple of reasons why I chose Sheila: - The facility is really clean. - They have great updates to the space inside and outside. - great age appropriate toys, and learning materials. - The pricing is affordable. - They are consistent with their schedule and routine. - They tell you exactly what you need to prepare and bring. -the community As a first-time mom, dropping off your child at daycare is daunting. Sheila walked me through everything: you need to provide diapers, wipes, a water bottle, and a bed sheet. He would never nap with us, but at daycare, he naps consistently and does really well. He always comes back with a clean diaper. After about a month, he was thriving. Now, when I drop him off, he doesn't even cry. He walks over to Maribel and Sheila, and when I pick him up, I see him putting his toys away before running to me. It's so sweet to see. I can't say enough great things about Sheila and Maribel. The priority is: do you trust this childcare? Yes, a hundred percent. Do I trust her with my son's safety? Yes. It's because of the rules she puts in place and how strongly she enforces them. We are incredibly grateful to have found Sheila's program and have seen our child grow over the past 2 years! Sheila and Maribel are amazing teachers, and my child loves the school. Sheila was very responsive when I contacted her. Because I'm overseas and wasn't able to take a tour on site, I requested a virtual tour which she promptly made a video tour right away. Relocation is stressful enough and making sure finding a great daycare is so important that I really appreciated her responsiveness and welcoming manner. Due to the location of the house we ended up finding, we weren't able to choose Sheila's daycare. Shielas daycare has been amazing all 4 years my son has attended and the many years before that when my nephews attended. My son is graduating the program this year and we are so sad to go however my son is reading and has met all major milestones and beyond, thanks to the curriculum offered and support of teacher shiela and staff. Sheila and Maribel have been taking great care of our child for over the past year. In addition to the care that is promised, they put in lots of activities including graduation and birthday parties, spirit week with different themes throughout the week, growing butterflies, and so much more. Our child runs into Sheila's in the morning and begs to stay longer at the end of the day. The program has taught our child communication and mobile skills, and how to socialize well with other children. Recently, a tree needed to be removed from the outdoor playground area. Sheila handled it quickly over the weekend by hiring a professional company, and then upgraded the playground with covering with the help of her husband. As a first time mom, working from home because of pandemic, I was so worried and stressed out about sending my son to a daycare as I have been with him 24/7 all the time! Let me start by saying I never write reviews on Yelp, ever! I have twin toddler boys which means I have no free time! However, I could not pass up the opportunity to express how pleased we were with Sheila's In Home Learning Program. After our boys had many surgeries in the beginning of their lives, the last thing I wanted to do as a nurse and first time mama was put them in daycare. I'm a little overprotective...ok A LOT overprotective, as I'm sure most parents are. I did my research because choosing the right daycare was crucial. My boys were already behind in speech and I knew socialization with other children was necessary. They got that and SO much more at this daycare. Sheila and Maribel loved and supported our kids like we were family. They saw them as individuals, not as identical twins, and allowed them to learn at their own pace. We were amazed at the progress we saw in such a short time! The boys have a great foundation for Kindergarten. The only reason we left was because we moved, but it's clear our boys are advanced academically compared to other children at their new preschool. I love that Sheila and Maribel saw their potential, despite their speech delay. And let's be honest, it takes a caring duo to deal with the occasional tantrums and competitiveness my boys have with one another. Sheila and Maribel are patient, observant, trustworthy and clearly experienced in this field. They practice Montessori style teaching and encouraged the boys to work on skills past their age when they were interested. I could go on and on but I think you get the idea Please take a chance on Sheila and Maribel like we did. You will NOT regret it. Sheila still checks in on my boys even after we left her school. I am taking the time to write this review because I think that Sheila's is the BEST place I could have sent my children. So good, in fact, that I had my daughter continue with her this summer (between K and 1st grade) to keep her physically active, socially involved and academically on track for 1st. Both of my children went to Sheila's after I had two horrible experiences with other daycares. The first was completely neglectful and left my son in a high chair most of the day and the second was physically abusive and left hand mark bruises on my baby. Sheila was recommended by a teacher colleague of mine who had all her girls go there growing up. Sheila and Maribel have treated my children and family with nothing but care and love throughout the years. Sheila is always up front and informative about the happenings of the day. She was great with my son, who has special needs, and taught my daughter to read before she reached first grade!! During the summer they made summer snacks like ice cream and smoothies, they did sand art and learned about sea life. She always picks a cute theme for the summer activities. The kids had a great time everyday! Finally, I just want to write that Sheila's entire family is amazing. To read reviews saying anything negative about this group of people is absurd! Her employees, husband and daughters are so friendly and wonderful that I don't know what I would do without them. Finding a daycare, preschool is one of most difficult decions to make. My family has been very fortunate to have been recommended to Sheila's in home learning program preschool. My grandson's are now 12, 11 and 5 they all wish they could be at Sheila's. We had nothing but the best of child care and learning experience for my grandson's. We moved to San Bruno from another part of the Bay Area earlier this year and needed to find a preschool outside normal enrollment times for our daughter, and I'm so glad we found an opening in Sheila's program! Our daughter absolutely loves it there and has grown and learned so much and has so many friends that she looks forward to seeing there every day. She's writing her name, writing all the letters, they've clearly been working really hard with the kids on this daily and she brings home daily worksheets completed there. A very trouble-free experience so far and highly reliable for working parents. Sheila and Maribel take excellent care of all the kids. We were so worried after a really bad experience at another preschool before we moved, where our daughter was having tantrums and effectively got kicked out on her second day. I rarely write reviews, but think other parents should be aware of our situation at Sheila's in home daycare. My wife and I went to interview Sheila when my wife was 3 months pregnant back in 2014. At the time, she was very friendly and the children all seemed to enjoy their time there. There were no red flags so we put our deposit down for a spot in 1.5 years. My daughter started going there when she was 1 years old in April 2016. Every time we dropped her off, she cried. At the beginning, we thought that she just didn't like the transition, but she cried for almost a year. Sheila would tell us that it's normal for her to cry, but my wife and I always wondered how long she would cry for. When we picked her up in the afternoon, she would quickly grab her items and push us out the door. Again, we just thought it was her personality and didn't think too much of it. After almost a year of going there, I showed up on a Friday afternoon to pick up my daughter and Sheila pulled me aside. She told me that licensing had come by and saw she had 2 kids over the limit of what she was supposed to have. She told me that she had to let go of our daughter on that day and gave me all her items. I pleaded with her that we had no one to take care of her, but she said that there was nothing she can do and my daughter couldn't come back. I was furious to find out that we waited almost 2 years to get our daughter into this daycare and she dropped us with a blink of an eye. I called licensing to plead my case and that's when I found out there were more things happening there that I was led on to believe. San Bruno licensing wrote in a report that they caught her with 6 kids over the limit and she was hiding a few kids in a back office whenever parents/licensing came around. In addition, there was a police report with allegations of child abuse at the facility. Any parent who is looking for a daycare should look up reports on the San Bruno licensing website to see what misconduct a daycare has been charged with. Basically, anything that Sheila told us verbally wasn't true. I couldn't believe that we put our daughter in that kind of environment. It became a huge inconvenience to not have a safe daycare for my daughter for months. As any Bay Area parent knows, all daycares have a long waiting list and it's a tough situation for working parents to deal with without your control. I hope no parent has to go through what we went through. read more

I enrolled my child in Sheila's In-Home Learning Program and liked how things were going in the beginning. The staff sometimes had inconsistencies in what they told me about my child's day and the daycare almost always seemed chaotic during pickup but I didn't really think twice about it until earlier this year when certain events occurred. In my experience, Sheila was more willing to talk about her daughters or other parents and children than my own child's progress. Sheila was cited by the California Department of Social Services for being over-enrolled earlier this year. I don't have time to chat in the morning during drop-off. Knowing this, Sheila downplayed her violation when she quickly told me two part-time kids were being let go to bring her back to her licensed ratio. Sheila rushed me to sign a document to acknowledge I was informed of the violation because she said Social Services was coming back that day to pick up the document. When I asked for a copy of the document so that I could read it in its entirety later she said I'd receive one after all parents signed it. I never received a copy of the violation from Sheila. Turns out Sheila lied about the number of kids she was over-enrolled by and was supposed to provide me with a copy of the violation when I requested one that morning. She hid children in parts of the house that are off-limit to her program and had Jim, her husband who is an unlisted and unlicensed care provider, and her underage daughters watch them. Someone with Sheila's experience knows how child-to-provider ratios work. Her over-enrollment is not due to students overlapping. She deliberately exceeded her enrollment limit and in doing so diluted the quality of care my child received. That's simply greed and negligence--someone could have gotten hurt. And she lied to my face about it. After Carol, one of the three care providers, left for personal reasons things at the daycare rapidly went downhill. Sheila never replaced Carol's position so it was just Maribel and her (and her daughters, and for a while Jim's sister). That's when I pulled my child out of Sheila's. If you're considering enrolling your child at Sheila's, do your homework. Go to Social Service's website and read the incident reports and citations on file. Also know that they don't wash the children's hands with soap and water but instead use instant hand sanitizer, and Sheila's cats occasionally enter the daycare area. read more

We unfortunately did not have a very positive experience at this daycare. I started off really liking Sheila and the helpers, but when issues surfaced, and I found out that she was being less than honest with parents about the situation, we decided to pull our child out. It started with a random inspection by Child Services that cited her for enrolling more kids than she was allowed. They ended up writing her up for the violation and required her to 1) let go some of the kids to get back to 14, and 2) inform all parents (current and prospective) of her violation. When informing parents (at least in my experience and the handful of other parents I spoke to), she would pull them aside at morning drop off (which was likely strategic because she obviously knows that we're always in a rush to get to work), inform them that she was inspected by child services and was TWO kids over and that those 2 kids were random drop ins that day she just so happened to accept. She then asked us to sign the citation saying she informed us. I was in a rush to get to work so I asked to take the citation with me to read before signing, but she told me I needed to sign there and then because child Services may come back that day and she needed them on file. So I did. I realized later that she just didn't want me to actually read it through. One suspicious thing happened after another and as I started talking to parents I realized something wasn't right. One of the other parents actually sent me a copy of the violation that clearly stated that during the inspection they not only found her over capacity with 18 kids (that day), but that she was also hiding some of the kids in a back room of the house with her husband. A part of the house that was off limits to the daycare. On top of that, I don't think that she let go of the all 4-6 kids she was over and instead had her husband take them offsite during the day to nearby play centers so that if they were randomly reinspected they wouldn't be caught in the house at least. A parent had seen Sheila's husband at the mall during daycare hours with kids from the daycare on more than one occasion. He is not one of the caretakers so it is questionable why he was with the kids alone. Parents: If you do end up inquiring with them for a space for your little one, just ask the right questions and do your research. Also you may want to inquire with them about the pending police investigation, which is separate from the over-capacity issue. read more
