The guy who runs it is called, I think, Jim & is a good source of tips and recommendations. I know he buys stuff as well. A friendly local retailer with low cost good quality stuff? Yes! I'm not sure why I'm even recommending it, frankly. I'd rather keep this one to myself! Five stars fully earned.

They're a little way out of the town centre, just near Sevenoaks School, but nowhere you can't stroll to in a few minutes. Good place for anything from strings to amps, cables, acoustics and electrics, basses, harmonicas and all sorts. Check it out!

Brittens Music store in West Byfleet is a great local music shop and probably one of the best in…read morethe Woking/Byfleet areas. It's a large store which stocks instruments, accessories, sheet music and CDs. Half of the store is dedicated to classical instruments and the second-half to keyboards and guitars. The store will stock most basic instruments for immediate sale. They will order other instruments in, but, if you're looking for something better than stock you'd be better going somewhere where you can try before you order. The store offers a hire and buy scheme for those just starting out and who are unsure whether they will want to purchase an instrument. A repair service is offered which will be good enough for most school grade instruments. Most of the music for the common exam syllabi is stocked although you'll find less for the higher grades. Staff are generally knowledgeable although they tend to be jack of all (instruments) rather than specialists. Music lessons for keyboard and guitar are available in store and come recommended. Lists of tutors are available for other instruments.

There is a wide range of guitars, with an acoustic room down stairs, and an electric room up stairs. There is a wide range of percussion and various other music paraphernalia as well. I was looking for a trumpet mute for a Christmas present, and after trying a few other stores, I found it at Macari's. It's the little things like that which separate Macari's from the other stores.

There were a number of packages on offer for a beginner such as myself. Guitar, case and tutorial DVD combo packages are available at very reasonable and affordable prices. If you're an experienced player then there are plenty of goods and deals to suite your needs too. Guitars are not the sole focus of the shop. Other instruments are available to either take away or order in, as is sheet music. The gentleman who runs the shop is clearly passionate about music and customer service. He knows music and he knows his stock and was able to give me good guidance on a guitar package which met my needs. Dog House is located at the bottom of the Broadway, out of the way of the main shopping centre which means the area is not as congested. Parking is available in side streets which are on pay meters but don't risk by not paying as the main traffic office is up the road meaning parking wardens are up and down the road regularly dishing out tickets.

My 13 year old son has been learning the guitar and doing really well so wants a decent guitar for…read morehis birthday in June. I took him to this shop so he could try out some different guitars and get an idea of what was available but the guy in the shop was totally disinterested. His attitude was "Come back in June, it is pointless trying any guitar unless you are ready to buy it." I explained my son just wanted to see how different guitars felt and played so he could get an idea of what he wanted but still the guy would not let him try any. I know all guitars are different and stock can change but if there had been a guitar there today my son really liked I would have bought it now or put down a deposit. The "couldn't care less" attitude of the guy today has lost him a sale and assured that I will never go back there. He was explaining to a previous customer how he had tried selling drums but nobody was interested. Well I am not surprised if that is how he treats customers. A wasted journey, wasted parking meter money and a disappointed 13 year old sums up my visit to this shop.
