The salon is clean and beautiful We went in for a consult, my daughter's birthday was that week and we also wanted to pamper her a bit we were able to get an appt the next day but as we went to drive away John came out and asked if we could work with him, and he would do it today if we could be flexible with the time frame which actually did not seem to be an issue My daughter's hair came out beautifully. He listened to exactly what she wanted, he cut and then dyed it, washed it, styled it straitened it he was so kind with her as she a bit shy. John is a very busy guy but if you ever want to book with him just ask and he'll try to fit you in with him. I just moved to Hampton from Arizona and was not looking forward to finding a new barber. I mean the one I had in Phoenix was so good I wasn't sure anyone would be able to fill his shoes. But I needed a hair cut so I started looking. I found John on Yelp and choose him because of the great cuts on his page. Called him and he was able to get me in the following day. The shop is nice. It feels like a cross between a barber shop and a salon. It was clean and there was good music playing. John seated me right on time and asked about what I wanted and what I usually get etc. I don't really know what I want (I know I'm the worst) but he was able to figure it out. He was also very knowledgeable and was able to give me advise to help me make my hair do the things I want it to do. My son received a horrible 12-minute haircut. I did not catch the name of the stylist (blue hair), but she gave my son a hack job. It was rushed, uneven, and lacked pride. Do not recommend. I am hesitant to write a review because I don't want him to blow up and be busier, but not writing a review would be an injustice to John. I went in on Friday evening spontaneously and the shop was bustling. John's store is not small, but not huge. He stated that he just opened his shop less than a year ago. It's very clean and there is plenty of space to wait. He also has a waitlist, so I was able to sign in and come back later. Now to the most important part, his skill. My husband had gotten his hair cut by John earlier that week, or maybe the week before. It's always a hit or miss with mens' hair especially for my husband, but his haircut was not too short, but clean and still moldable in that he could style it if he wanted to or just leave it and still look good. I was hesitant in asking John to cut my hair because it's usually a miss with new people. I have gotten my hair cut by a korean stylist all my life and never had an issue. When I got my hair trimmed at a salon in the 757 area, it was not a positive turnout. I have heard that Asian hair is a bit more difficult to cut, but I do not cut hair nor do I have any other hair but Asian hair. My last hair cut was lopsided, some areas were longer than others and I just got a straight cut. So I put two/three inches in John's hands and asked for a straight cut once more. John went straight to work and worked his magic. My hair was completely straight at the edges, no super long strands/chunks, no lopsided parts, just a clean cut. I highly recommend coming to John if you need a job well done! My husband and I will definitely be coming back to John as long as he'll have us and as long as we live here! read more
