If you are a senior and have original Medicare and a Medigap supplement rather than an "Advantage"…read moreinsurance policy...listen up!!! The NCM's office manager left me shaking before my EEG test today...I don't know if the results of the test will be worth anything due to how agitated I was made to be. I had to get this done being as I'm having surgery in about ten days. Rather than getting an "Advantage" insurance policy I kept original Medicare and added a Medigap policy. I went this route due to going through the horror of my wife having Stage-3 lung cancer and the expenses we incurred. During this horror I had to go on Medicare so I opted for Medicare and a Medigap supplement rather than one of the Medicare replacement "Advantage" insurance policies due to the high out-of-pocket expenses and co-pays that we were subjected to with BCBS. "Advantage" policies are much cheaper than Medigap supplements but they have those dreaded out-of-pocket and co-pay expenses...and you also have to see doctors in the "Advantage" policies' networks...you don't have a choice. With a Medigap supplement once original Medicare has paid its 80% it then sends the remaining bill to the Medigap company and they pay the other 20%...the doctor's office doesn't have to do anything with the Medigap company other than deposit the check that they receive. Medigap supplements are great if you have some health issues. "Advantage" insurance policies are great if you have really, really good health. First thing...this Neurologist office*does* accept Medicare assignment...I just wanted to get that clear. Anyhow, we arrived at the office and they were having computer problems, etc,. The (new?) girl at the front desk could not figure out got original Medicare and my Medigap supplement and told me I would have to pay 20% of the bill. I told her no, that my Medigap would cover that. She looked puzzled and went and talked with the office manager. The manager said they didn't accept my secondary "insurance". I tried to explain to the "office manager" how Medicare and a Medigap supplement works together, but she just told me that that she "knows how Medicare works". I tried to explain again when she told me basically that they didn't have to administer the test due to my attitude. She eventually said they would accept the insurance *only* as a courtesy to me. I started to probably say something I'd have regretted and my dear wife interrupted and said I'd take the test. I backed off, realizing this manager did not know what she was talking about. A bit later the test was administered to me. The techs that performed the test acting very professional. Were friendly and seemed to care about what they were doing. The big thing for them was that I should keep my eyes closed during the test, that I should relax, and if possible go to sleep. Yeah. Sure. I don't know if they knew or didn't know about the situation that I had just gone through. I'm sure my blood pressure was up, that my heart-rate was high, and there was *no* danger of me being peaceful and calm and falling asleep. The results will probably be so skewed that they will be worthless. So, again, if you have original Medicare and a Medigap policy...stay far, far away from Neurology Consultants of Montgomery located in the Goode Building across from Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. You've been warned.
