It's not quite the same as my dentist in San Francisco on the 21st floor downtown with a view of Alcatraz while in the chair, but the folks here are just as nice and professional. So far, really good! I'm a new patient here. This is not the prettiest office in town, however the staff is welcoming, professional, and friendly. I came to the Lake practice when my other new dentist started telling me that I needed new crowns, etc. I asked Dr. Lake for a second opinion. He examined my mouth very thoroughly, asked several questions, and let me know that in his opinion, nothing needed work right now...just as I thought. The founder of the practice, who's no longer around, has three sons who are dentists there, and there's also one grandson. I think I've seen each of them at one time or another. They're neither overly friendly nor particularly objectionable. I'm kind of neutral about them personally, but they do good work. There was this one dental assistant who cleaned my teeth there one time who was unpleasant and condescending. I've also had issues with one of the ladies who takes your money and makes your next appointment. She's rude. Otherwise, the support staff has been okay. I got an estimate from them for replacing the veneers on my front teeth that was rather high. I went to Los Algodones -- the dental capital of Mexico on the other side of the border from Yuma, AZ -- and had the same work done for $2000 less than their estimate ($2750 v. $750). That was about three years ago, and I'm perfectly happy with the dental work I got done in Mexico. In fact, I went back there for a crown that's working out just fine. My plan is to use this dental office for routine cleanings or emergencies, but get any expensive dental work done in Mexico. As most Americans would be, I was wary about getting dental work in Mexico, but it has worked out just fine. read more

I can't say enough good things about Lake Dental. First of all, you have to love a truly family-owned and operated business--literally ALL the dentists are brothers or nephews, so there's a practice-wide commitment to excellence that's sincere and pervasive. My actual dentist, Dr. Craig Lake, is one of the absolute finest, no-alarm-fire practitioners I've ever had the privilege of seeing. And my hygienist, Lori, is phenomenal. The. Best. Ever. I used to dread cleanings, but now ... bring it on! She's thorough, careful, and smart, and my teeth are happier for it. I literally cried when my trusted dentist in LA retired. Shortly after moving to the Coachella Valley, I visited a dental practice here that at best was on my insurance plan, at worst seemed more interested in roping me into expensive, unnecessary, even risky procedures (gum grafts for a patient with a bleeding disorder, anyone?). Their billing manager, who had the personality of a carbuncle, overcharged me for simple procedures, and made me pay in advance for routine fillings before she billed my insurance--a violation of their contract, according to the insurance company. When I contacted her for a refund, she weakly claimed that she "just noticed" her error (6 weeks later!) and that I would get a check in a few days. When that didn't happen after 2 weeks, I called again, and she complained there was "a lot going on" and would get to around to issuing my refund the following week. Worse, I had to go through Ms. Carbuncle to have my records transferred to Lake Dental; she sent them a black & white XEROX COPY of my film instead of digital files of my full-mouth x-rays. Maybe she "just noticed" that we're in the 21st Century. Needless to say, I'm grateful to be a Lake Dental patient. No up-sell, no unnecessary procedures, no greed or incompetence--just pure, excellent dentistry. THANK YOU, Lake Dental!! read more

Dr. Craig Lake is just the BEST! I've seen many a dentist and had become a scaredy cat to the max...until Dr. Craig. He is as gentle as can be, and tells you exactly what he will be doing before touching you. Anytime a shot is needed, well, it's barely felt. I have been known to need more novocaine than the "average" person, and Dr. Craig instinctively seems to know when to administer that extra helping prior to any pain. Had a large, prominent crown replaced my Dr Steve Lake. Always such perfection....the first time. The temporary was perfect, as was the final fitting of the crown. Most people that know Dr. Steve are aware of his precision...and shear talent. I recommend him without the slightest hesitation. read more

If there were 10 stars I would have to award them to Dr. Craig Lake. I am the world's biggest scaredy-cat when it comes to the word dentist. Immediately I conjure up visions of a torture chamber. Not so with the magic hands of Dr. Craig. Even his shots of numbing anesthesia are hardly felt at all! He puts a whole new great meaning to painless dentistry. Also, the office will take care of you during "off" hours because all the other doctor brothers cover for one another. What a find! The prices are comparable to the market but well worth it!!! I am in this area traveling and had a filling come out. Called Lake Dental and got in that afternoon. The person I talked with, Amy, was great. Got there and was handled promptly, friendly and professionally. Dr James Lake checked out tooth, gave good synopsis, told me the cost, and fixed it. Very sastified with the entire process. I do not have dental insurance and thought the cost was reasonable. I would recommend the clinic and Dr James Lake to anyone. If I have any other problems I will call them. read more

I am the worlds worst dental patient. I gag easily. I flinch any time the dentist even looks like he might be going to do something. This office is GREAT! The hygienist is the best I've ever had (at 69, I've had a few) and Dr. James is young, kind, caring, and very patient. I got several quotes for the work that needed to be done and these guys weren't low, nor were they high, but they were the best in explaining what was needed and being patient with me to get my act together. read more

I've been a patient there for several years, just getting cleanings and not needing any real dental work. When I did need a crown, it was difficult to get an appointment...also I had 4 temporary crowns because they kept breaking. By the time my crown came in, it didn't fit because my teeth had shifted!! I had to be prepped again for a crown and wait another 4 weeks! Seriously, the worse experience getting a crown I've ever experienced and I have 6 other ones. Just sayin' read more
