    Fronts of John Deere tractors

We stopped here before going to another museum. My neighbor growing up had a John Deere that had the distinguished noise as it traveled on the road. This museum shows how John Deere got his start making plows then tractors. I'm no farmer, but I appreciate John Deere with making great tractors and gators. Most tractors are on loan from real farmers. This place is free and more informative than the museum in Moline. The John Deere campus is also next door. I bought a cool winter hat at the gift shop. There's lots of cool John Deere gift items. My dad and other older men would probably like this museum more.

Had such a good time here! It was just a quick pit stop to get my five month old out of the car and he loved looking at all the colors and big tractors! It was free admission and had so much to look at and read about! If you need to make a stop definitely do it, if I drive though again I would most likely stop and visit next time!

    Great for gearheads!

This is a really cool free museum. The exhibits are really interesting. We learned a lot about the history of John Deere and we enjoyed seeing the antique tractors as well as the brand new models. My son was bummed that he could only climb on two tractors, but they did have a lot interspersed throughout the museum for kids to do. Definitely stop if you're in the area.

Great representation of old and new items

This is a fun experience. We got to sit on some tractors and learn about farm machinery. It's a must-do in Waterloo!

The gift shop was sparse, and it could be much better.

It's a wonderful resource for the community. History: James Hearst was a poet and professor at the local university, the University of Northern Iowa. He donated his house to the community, and the James and Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts was born. His poems are classic to the Midwest and Iowa, focusing on nature and farming. Exhibits: The art exhibits change out frequently, and often feature a guest exhibit, as well as some from their own cache. Gary Kelley is a local favorite. He is an illustrator for children's books. If you are familiar with his work, it's not hard to pick out his pieces. Price: None! The art museum is free and open to the public, as is their events. Of course the workshops and classes have a small fee for supplies. Garden: They have lovely gardens in the back during the spring/summer/fall months. You can even host a small wedding there! The garden also contains art sculptures that you can walk around and view. The iconic art sculpture out front represents a cyclone. Shop: There is also a small shop inside where you can buy items and art from local artists. This art museum is a gem to the community. Be sure to check it out!

The cost of this event is ridiculous if you only want to spend a day. They hype it as a bargain for…read morea 3 day event but to be honest, one day is more than enough. I personally find this Irish Fest boring and there's very little selection of vendors selling actual Irish cuisine or goods (mostly pizza or Mexican food along with other fried fair food and donuts). I have to go every year due to a family member loving it but I immediately start dreading the next year's event as soon as the current one is over. Also, you cannot make a fun family day, picnic style, of the event. No purses or coolers are allowed. Because I cannot digest fried junk food very well, I literally bake in the sun all day on an empty stomach. $35 for a day of torture!!! Ugh!

They always have an excellent selection of live music on several stages, including nationally and even internationally known bands. The food is excellent as well, with several vendors selling Irish dishes. Oh yes, they also have Guinness! There is a family area (which was expanded this year) with activities for the kids, and a cultural area (also expanded this year). The admission charge may seem a bit steep compared with some other events, but it is well worth it for the caliber of entertainment that this festival offers--and you might be able to receive discounted admission by purchasing your ticket in advance. I'm only Irish twice a year, but I won't miss Iowa Irish Fest for anything!
