The students seem eager to learn and seem to really WANT to be there. Now that I'm a parent I feel responsible for passing on the same values, languages and culture to my kids and was looking for a fun way to help them embrace their Chinese heritage. I coincidentally heard about this Chinese school from a family member who read about it in the Brookline Tab newspaper. My family and I are relatively new to the school but have been pleasantly surprised by the abundant offerings of language and extracurricular activities for both children and adults. They have classes that range from Mandarin, art (Chinese brush painting, sketching), performance art (Chinese Peking Opera, Chinese dancing), STEM (math, SAT prep), strategy games (chess, Go), and musical instruments (Erhu/Chinese violin), etc. As strange as this sounds, my kids actually look forward to attending the school on the weekends. I highly encourage other families to check out the school's offerings by visiting their website. You don't have to be Chinese to join, as long as you're interested in learning and having fun you'll find this to be a great experience. They are located at the Brookline High School and offer classes between 2-5:30 pm on Saturdays. Abundant parking is available on weekends so that's also pretty convenient.
