After a spending…read morea few years at a national chain daycare center, we moved and enrolled our son at Magic Garden. Starting from the application process, and our first day of attendance, the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. Director Lori Leo sets the tone for the entire center, and did an amazing job welcoming us to the Magic Garden community. Our very first experience with the center was during the Lincoln Winter Carnival when the center opened its doors to the Lincoln community by hosting a morning of activities for toddlers in town. We followed up with an official visit and the teachers each took time getting to know my son, and alternatively talking to my wife and me. We jumped at a chance to enroll mid-year. Of course, the teachers at Magic Garden also do so very much to develop an entertaining and educational curriculum, and this shines through in the experience they create on a daily basis. With four primary teachers in my son's classroom, and support staff added on top, I know he isn't lacking for attention or entertainment. Indeed nearly every morning the teachers have planned and setup multiple activities and the kids have their choice of what to discover. The teachers also communicate well with us, sharing moments from our son's days and developmental goals and achievements. Further, the center does so much to ensure that the base curriculum is enhanced. Nearly every day, we hear stories or participate in some type of enrichment activity. From tumbling classes and swim lessons, to nature walks and story time with the Lincoln library, I am constantly amazed at the variety of activities my son participates in. My son also participates in the school's 'Starlight' program, which provides daycare for those needing care after the core program completes at 3pm. While most afternoons include lots of time on the playgrounds (there are four playground options on the campus!), I was blown away to discover that the afterschool teachers develop their own curriculum as well, and try hard to keep the kids engaged for the last few hours of the day. Most days I pick up, my son has a huge grin on his face and doesn't want to leave, and nothing makes a parent feel better than that! Most importantly, Magic Garden is a community. While it's not required to put a lot of additional time into the center, parents will find themselves rewarded and enriched for every effort they do make. My wife and I have both visited our son's class to teach about art or music, and it's so great to see how much fun all the kids are having. The community events are all well attended and provide a great way for working parents to connect. We've had a blast at class BBQ's, the annual hoedown, and the tremendous fall apple picking event. This has been a long review, but it's an important one. Magic Garden is a fantastic community. The teachers, the director, the support, and the parents all ensure that the kids are well cared for, educated and entertained. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I can't imagine a better spot for a preschool. Unfortunately, we are unable to send our boys there this year because our nanny got pregnant and could no longer work for us (dropping the boys off and picking them up). Although we notified Drumlin as soon as we found out our nanny was pregnant that we'd have to change our plans, and although there was a waiting list for the class we'd signed our boys up for, they still kept our $1000 deposit. The same thing happened to friends of ours who ended up moving away after signing up their daughter for preschool (they lost $500). Since they have very rigid policies in place, just be sure you don't have any extenuating circumstances come up, as sadly, they are not willing to show parents much courtesy in situations such as these.

There are four classrooms, two teachers per classroom - it makes for a nice, friendly community. The teachers are wonderful and provide a warm and nurturing environment that builds confidence and encourages exploration, creativity, and learning. Our son thrived here. I was concerned that three years of preschool was going to grow stale but that was absolutely not the case. The little 2.9 yr old child who started two days a week was very different from the 5 1/2 yr old, going four days a week, that graduated but I feel each classroom experience met this growth and change very nicely. The school is in the same building as The Council on Aging and the school and the council make the most of this unique set-up with the preschoolers performing for the Council on Aging community at various times throughout the year, and the members of Council on Aging helping the children pick out Mother's Day gifts from their gift shop. The children work hard to prepare and are so proud after their performance. The location also enables the children to take a weekly walk and trip to the library and other walks around town. With one stay-at-home parent, we only needed a true preschool experience, not daycare, but the preschool offers Stay and Play on Mondays and Wednesdays that extends the day to 2:30pm. I found this very useful if I needed extra time in the day. We also took advantage of Stay and Swim where the kids are bused to Beede for a swim lesson on Wednesdays. The children are learning art, science, and math every day through their activities and play. The teacher shared all that the children were learning in her weekly newsletter. Stand-outs from this last year alone - Learning about Concord's amazing authors and then taking a hike in the same woods they hiked; learning about the world's most talented artists, making art in the style of these artists, then capping it off with a field trip to the MFA; reinforcing the value of giving back and helping others from a month long dedicated service unit where the children do things like collect old towels for animal shelters, candy for soldiers, and actually go shopping to put together a holiday meal for a family in need. Each year they put out a yearbook for the school. I love that he will always have these books to remind him of his time in preschool. The graduation ceremony was a beautiful (tearful for mom) send-off to kindergarten and, after speaking with my son on his first few days in kindergarten, it is clear that Carousel Preschool helped prepare him for an easy transition to kindergarten. They share the playground with the Concord Children's Center. They offer an optional stay and play program, swim lessons at the Beede Center, and a summer program. The kids go on many fields trips (local businesses, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, local farms, etc.) and walk to the library across the street on a weekly basis. Unsurprisingly, they have a close relationship with the Concord public school system, which allows them to really ease the transition to kindergarten (they even organize field trips to kindergarten) and provide valuable information about your kid's needs and strengths to their new school. We also liked that all teachers are experienced and mature individuals. You will not be leaving your kid with a 19-year-old. It's a well run, creative, and welcoming program.

I feel so strongly about how great this school is that I am also on the board, as it is a non-profit. They treat the teachers with the respect that they deserve and don't send them home without pay when the numbers are down for the day. If the numbers are down, our kids get more interaction with more teachers. Did I mention how great the teachers are! My daughter has thrived at CCL and loves going to "school" everyday. You do have to walk up stairs as the space is rented from the church, but that has actually taught my daughter stair safety at a very early age. I cannot recommend CCL highly enough. The space is a bit dated, but they have tons of toys for the kids and they love it, so don't let the space fool you, this place is great.

My twins started at the Coop this year with great success. I was worried because they were…read moreextremely attached to me, but the Coop made the transition a pleasure. I looked at a few preschools before choosing the Coop and many of the schools discouraged parents in the classroom, even if the child was upset, but the Coop was different. I couldn't imagine leaving my girls upset about leaving me, and I prepared myself to spend some time in the classroom until they got to know and trust their teacher, and eventually be okay with me leaving. However, I only stayed one morning before my girls were confident and happy, and I could leave them smiling...not crying. Here a few things that made the transition easy: Before school starts the teachers visit each child's home so the kids have a familiar adult face on the first day of school. They have modified schedule for the first few weeks to ease the children into a full day at school (away from their parents). There's always a parent in the classroom which I think is comforting. Parent-helping is part of the school's philosophy and one parent from each family helps about once a month. The classes are small with only about 8-10 students in each classroom. My girls love school so much they just started doing Stay and Play (extends the day until 2:30) which gives me a very nice break.

Our two children come home from Sudbury Montessori every day with smiles on their faces. It is a…read morecalm and encouraging environment. We have really enjoyed being introduced to the Montessori educational philosophy through Sudbury Montessori. The teachers send home photos at the end of each week so we can see our childrens' days in action. They have a lot of opportunities to be creative during the day - our daughter loves painting and gets to do a lot of that. We've also been impressed with their sanitation and organization during COVID-19. We have never once felt vulnerable or exposed thanks to the precautions they've taken and the communication around it. The kids' schedule involves a lot of outside play time and exploring, which is so important to us and not something that every pre-school does. The staff makes themselves available at drop-off and pick-up for any questions, and they're also just a quick phone call away. All in all we are pleased with this sweet little school and would recommend them.
