I ordered 3 plates, broiled salmon with mixed veggies(looked good), my dad said it was good, fried fish and shrimp and fried fish with calabash chicken. My chicken was overcooked and hard, my baked potatoes(one was rotten, the other was old and brown. I checked my food before leaving and at first glance everything looked fine, but when I got home, I found all the things that were wrong. (7/30/26) read more

And they are now open as of 2/25/2026 as The Colonial. The OG. The Colonial is back, serving food for generations. The menu is pretty close to what it used to be. Flounder, Shrimp, Scallops, Oysters fried up or broiled. We dined in this time. The take out side was packed, a good sign. We were seated quickly, drinks and hush puppies followed quickly. Overall the food was as good as it was in the past. We are glad they've reopened. And we'll have to try the Braveheart Black Angus Beef burgers next time. read more

Food was over cooked and portions were small. In the past when it was Colonial, food was much better.

Everything!! Quality Quantity If I spend 20 on 1 plate no reason to leave hungry.. fish under cooked hushpuppies over cooked.. read more

Svc was great food was delicious tea was best. Will recommend this restaurant to all my friends and collegues

Use to be Colonial. Colonial sure was less stingy. They don't even give out free half gallon teas if you spend at least $30 now.

We've been going here for many, many years. Until recently, the food has always been very good. I am told there's a new owner. I am not pleased lately and have stopped going there. The food is greasy and not like it used to be. Sure wish they would fix the problems and get back to where they use to be! read more

I was able to eat at this location the past couple times I visited the area. For now, you order at the window, and they call your name when your food is ready and the dining room is super small. They are in the middle of remodeling the rest of the restaurant. The food is as good as it has always been and the employees are super friendly. read more

This is a good local fish camp. It's convenient to the citizens of Cherokee County S.C. Although it's not my favorite place to dine on fish, it's still very good. I usually order the fried catfish. I also get a nice sized baked potato and cole slaw. The hush puppies are the star attraction for me. I love them! Cooked so perfectly! Originally this building housed another restaurant that offered curb service many, many, years ago with a more traditional menu. read more

Four plates for $76 and what a waste of $76. I ordered the Alaskan White Fish and I honestly can't tell if it was worse going in or coming out. The fish tasted like it had been cooked hours beforehand, chewy, and flavorless. I loved Colonial for many years, but the quality of food has been depleted and prices keep on rising....... go at your own risk!!! read more

Save you money i had the shrimp and oysters and stuffed crab. my dinner was served cold ,so cold it seemed as if it was preferred earlier in the day and sat out to be served in the evening. my husbands was the same way the only difference in the dinner was he had catfish and not crab. you should never serve cold fried food especially seafood. read more

Great food. Large salads. Wait staff are excellent and the manager, Crystal is amazing. She is always checking on customers making sure everyone is happy with their food and service. Its not much to look at from the outside but the food is worth the trip. read more

Whenever I visit my Grandpa in South Carolina, I always make sure to visit my favorite fish camp! I've been coming here for years and I've never had any complaints. The portions are huge, the food is delicious, and the service is superb! My usual is the pick two platter and I usually get the flounder and fried oysters. The fried oysters are soooo good! The hush puppies are amazing and they give you a basket as an appetizer while you're waiting for your food. My whole family always enjoys it! read more

John Boy’s - fried fish, coleslaw and pickle - Seafood Near Me - Gaffney, South Carolina

Colonial is good but they have slacked off a bit. With the economy the way it is they don't give you as much food as they use to and the prices have went up a bit. read more

The food was okay. My salmon was a little dry and my grilled shrimp was a bit overcooked. My wife seemed to like her food and it we was not greasy. The service was good and our waiter was attentive. I don't always past final judgment on a place during a first visit. read more

Way overrated. The fried oysters were really good as were the hushpuppies. But the fried shrimp and flounder were a little greasy and tasteless. And the deviled crab was just filling. There not even any essence of crab for taste. And I usually like local mom and pop spots that are a little dingy. But this place was less colonial and more truck stop. read more

Good seafood. Working up here from the gulf coast,so I'm kind of a seafood snob. Every now and then I just want a good fried seafood platter and they delivered. Price was really good, too. Would have given it a five if I could've gotten a beer with it. read more

This is my local fish camp even though I have favorite fish camps out of town this is my usual eating place. This use to be a local diner built in the 50's and has been two different fish camps but the colonial is know far and wide across the upstate mainly for the quantity of food given on your plate. I have no complaints here it isn't a perfect restaurant but none are the wait staff are always friendly and ready to serve with a smile. My usual meal is a large calabash chicken plate Togo that has enough food on it for me ,my wife and 2 kids it's truly a great deal read more

I highly recommend Colonial Fish Camp their fish and shrimp are top-notch and are the best you're going to get if you're in downtown Gaffney also the sweet tea is phenomenal and the waitresses and staff are always nice read more

Best fish camp I've ever been too... Reasonable prices and serving size is large!!! I have gotten the calabash chicken and love it... so yummy! They also have really good catfish too!! read more

I gave this place 5 stars because their food is that amazing. I love their shrimp and their calabash chicken, but I would give their staff 3 stars. Every time me and my family go we are the only table that seems to get ignored for some reason. And when someone finally takes our order it's like they are only listening to half of what we are saying for some reason. My sister and I always order ranch for our chicken and we say can you bring extra and they say yeah sure. And we get our order they NEVER have ranch on our plate and then we ask again and we have to wait 10 mins on someone else to bring it out to us. Half the time the waitress we started out with disappears and we end up with another one who gets our orders mixed up with another table. So I mean the food is amazing but the staff can do way better. read more

This place has really good food. I love their grilled chicken salad. It's not real pricey either. They always give you plenty of food on your plate. You will be taking leftovers home if you order a large plate. Everything on the menu is very yummy! read more

Their food are so so good y'all still go there and low price the hush puppies are so good they sweet tea

Off the beaten path a bit but a nice find. Majority of fried seafood. Very good and big platters. Restaurant was clean and decent service.

Ordered takeout and was very disappointed. The Alaskan White Fish had more breading than fish and there were very few fries in our large order. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for takeout since this has happened several times in the past. read more

My grandmother and i come to Gaffney SC to shop quite often. We're from Shelby so not too far of a drive. We wanted something different than our usual and found this gem! They bring in the sea food fresh, for starters, making it the best I've ever had while inland. I am super super happy to have found this place! We will be back for sure. read more

Great food at a great price!!! I would definitely recommend this place to locals, but it's also worth the trip if you live in a nearby town. Friendly & welcoming staff - the owner even stopped by our table to say hello and make sure we were happy! Southern hospitality at it's finest! read more

I would give them 6 stars, and it's not a typo. Had a big dinner with catfish fillet and white alaskan, oyster soup and oysters. The waitess was quite attentive and nice. All that costed below $15 because they had a special on Thursdays, but would be under $20 anyway. Patrons were almost all locals, not many tourists like me which tells me it is a good restaurant enjoyed by locals but not well known to internet community. It's a hidden gem And definitely a must go if you are around and enjoy good seafood for cheap read more
