Why John & Kira's Chocolates are a Great Valentine's "Gift": 1) Their chocolate ladybugs are "almost too cute too eat." ALMOST. 2) My favorite green ladybugs have a bright and clean mint flavor that reminded me of a mojito. 3) The yellow ladybugs reminded me of Bi-Rite's Honey Lavender ice cream but with a more pronounced lavender flavor. 4) The red ladybugs tasted of berries but it was guessed as being cherry rather than raspberry. 5) Very nice packaging. (Did you know that ladybugs are considered to be good luck?) 6) A thoughtful mission, partnerships with sustainable and family owned businesses, and a very cool Urban Farm Project. http://www.johnandkiras.com/Mission_Partners 7) A taste of their pretty Chocolate Figs (which actually the fig lover didn't care for due to the strong whisky flavor in the ganache). More ladybugs please! (Does it count as a "gift" if you eat more of the chocolates than the gift recipient? Hypothetically speaking of course.)

Please open a K'Far in Austin, TX!! Pistachio sticky bun - Absolutely delicious! Egg and cheese Jerusalem bagel - Delicious! Crispy, flavorful, slightly spicy. Yemenite iced coffee - So good! Like a spiced Vietnamese coffee. Sachlav - Loved! Like a cappuccino but with less milk. It wasn't as sweet which was a nice contrast to the sticky bun. We got in as a walk in without a wait on a Sunday morning. The server was nice as well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area!

I got a chai latte with oat milk and a Shakshuka (which, they told me is not a traditional Shakshuka but rather reimagined as a pasty). It was delicious! The chai latte had great depth and spice flavors, and the Shakshuka pastry was a great mix of flaky puff pastry and strong tomato and egg flavors. Just knocking off one star because for a $5.75 latte, they only filled the glass halfway up. I also got one of their famous pistachio sticky bun to take to go!

The incredible cheese selection, the curated Italian pastas, wines, and specialty foods -- it's a food lover's dream. I felt like a kid in a candy store, completely mesmerized by all the options. The staff was friendly, and everything looked so high-quality and well-presented. I was genuinely tempted to buy an assortment of cheeses to bring back home, and I still kind of regret not doing it. That said, I did have one experience that made me pause. Later that evening, as I walked by after closing hours, I peeked through the window to show my husband the shop I had visited earlier and I happened to see a few mice moving around inside the store. It was definitely unsettling to witness, especially after seeing all the exposed cheeses and displays earlier in the day. I completely understand that older city buildings (especially in places like Philly) have their challenges, and I'm sure this isn't unique to Di Bruno Bros. Still, as a customer, it did take away from the magic of my earlier visit. Overall, Di Bruno Bros. is a gorgeous and well-curated Italian market that I'd recommend visiting for its atmosphere and specialty goods but I hope management is able to address cleanliness concerns, because the store truly deserves to shine as brightly as its reputation.
