Food on the Move is one of my favorite nonprofits. Taylor Hanson started it in 2014 after being inspired by U.N. Ambassador Edward J. Perkins (he oversaw the end of South Africa's apartheid government and the release of Nelson Mandela while serving as the US Ambassador to South Africa). They host mobile food events and foster the return of permanent grocery stores and healthy food systems. Their monthly Community Events bring together partners, health resources, and have a pay-as-you-can model for fresh produce and prepared meals. They make it fun by having local DJs, food trucks, art classes, and more. They also have community gardens and teach an afterschool program in schools focused on teaching innovative urban farming systems, like hydroponics. I'm super excited for them to build their Food Home, which will be a community space with a market, urban farm, and food hub. I learn so much about the importance of micro greens and sustainable food practices from them.
