However I am going to make an exception for the Anchor Cafe in La Herradura, a lovely unspoilt town on the Costa Tropical.
Whilst staying in La Herrdura recently, I was desperate to find a bar that would show the Lions rugby games - not an easy task, as the town is more of a destination for Spanish taking their holidays, rather than northern Europeans. So I guessed I had to break my normal rule and find a Brit bar.
I popped into the Anchor, and could not have found a more welcoming place. Its run by a really nice charming English family, who were more than happy to make sure the game was on, at a volume where you could hear the commentary. They also served a different tapas dish free with every drink. There was such a good vibe in there that we visited a few times even when the rugby was not on, to enjoy the ambience and the great food a mix of traditional Spanish with English if you wanted it.
It also sits right on the beach so you've got fab views / weather etc.
What really makes this a great place is that the owners and their son in law who doubled up as the head barman and head chef couldn't do enough for you.
