Told MD doesn't have time to see us and told he doesn't return emergency calls just call 911 we were told regarding medication? - Dr never returned calls for my husbands urgent care needs he had been treating? We found him in the past at Mission he was very good at that time - He is no longer with them? We are looking for MD that cares about his patients and will call back for emergencies and allow us to just schedule appointments and get care and medication refills. read more

I recently saw Dr. Gee at his new location in San Clemente. He was able to diagnose and ongoing issue I'm having that no one could figure out. Where his staff was originally very friendly and helpful, I now can't get them to return my calls or messages regarding a RX I'm desperately in need of receiving. Definitely not the same care I received when he was at Mission. Hopefully this is temporary and he will get his own staff or office with dedicated resources. read more

See other reviews. I had a followup appointment with Dr Gee on 4/14 and called two weeks before to confirm it was in office or Telehealth. Receptionist told me Dr Gee was leaving and they were currently calling patients to cancel appointments! I informed the receptionist that not providing me written notice in a timely manner, arranging for continuation of care within network and medication until I could find another nuerologist is "patient abandonment" and has legal consequences. My husband who does not see Dr Gee received a letter addressed to him after my cancelled appointment date. Inside it said "Dear Patient" Dr Gee was no longer with Providence. They suggested patients contact their insurance company for referrals and Providence didn't have enough providers but would try to squeeze in patients in urgent need. I do know from inside contacts many Providence providers are not happy working there. I will be filing with CMA, and other agencies against Providence. read more

He suddenly left the practice. I went to refill my rx, which was declined. Then someone from the office to inform me he resigned from the practice April 7th. None of the Drs, are willing to take on my case due to the complexity. An amazing doctor who truly cares about his patients. Have not found another Dr anywhere near his care level, and honestly don't expect to. Unfortunately I can only give 1 stars, since as anyone knows a patient-doctor relationship also includes their staff. And the staff are out of control. Nancy, his primary nurse/office staff/whatever DOES NOT FOLLOW THE DOCTORS INSTRUCTIONS. The local pharmacy is as sick of her as I am. She lies to patients and the pharmacy. Any issues filling, needing to get a new auth, whatever, is met by bs excuses like " doctor doesn't care and changed the quantity". (Not true, verified with Gee that no changes were made to my rx) She literally lied to me (have written proof), the pharmacy, and my mom who is trying to help me deal with her. She intentionally delayed and outright lied about an extremely important authorization. I was unable to fill my anxiety meds for weeks, during the holidays (which she used to her advantage to delay further) and eventually cost $500 out of pocket so I could obtain the meds I freaking needed! She IS NOT A DOCTOR but has told me, other patients and the pharmacy that what SHE determines is appropriate is allowed. Ignoring the doctor. Ignoring the actual rx. Ignoring the pharmacy. Ignoring the patient. I find it disappointing that such a great doctor would keep such a narcissistic, manipulate, and downright nasty person in charge of their office. It also makes me wonder how many other patients she has harmed with her disgusting, entitled behavior. At least I have support from my family. What of all those other patients with severe cognitive issues that she's doing this to?!?! I know she doesn't do this to just me. The local pharmacists are all familiar with her behavior and are sick of it. She won't even work with them! She ignores all communication from the pharmacy (fax, electronic submissions, phone calls etc)....putting all responsibility on the patient. The patient who cannot resolve the issue since an auth is required from the doctors office!!! In short, this horribly sad and pathetic person is gatekeeping important meds from sick ppl, based on nothing other than her overinflated sense of self importance. And somehow no one there cares. Maybe that's why when we asked for an supervisor, she sent us to a RN for a different doctor who had 0 authority to do anything. Was then told if I had a problem with it I should contact the doctor directly. Except, they were intercepting all correspondence, keeping him in the dark, and told me to contact him personally if I wanted a result. I have his direct contact number (been a patient a VERY long time). I DID NOT want to bother him in that manner, but his staff said if I wanted a resolution that that was my only option. So I did. And of course felt horrible for it. I think Nancy thought I was bluffing (I've been a patient longer than she's worked there), but I wasn't. That is the extent I had to go to for a refill of an established medication. Absolutely degrading and humiliating. I'm sorry for any and all who had had to go through similar excruciating painful and emotionally manipulative crap caused by a sad lonely woman. I truly hope he gets better office staff, as Dr Gee has been a truly wonderful doctor over the years. Maybe one day I'll get over the anxiety attacks I get every time their office calls now, but I doubt it. (It's in my record for their office staff, especially Nancy, not to call me, email only, due to the severe anxiety they have started causing). But Nancy of course ignores the request because the office staff is only there for a paycheck! 0 respect for their patients, and obviously 0 respect for Dr Gee considering what she's putting his patients through. Dr. Joey R Gee is the BEST Specialist that we have been too. He is down to earth, super knowledgeable and keeps up with the latest medical journal publications on all types of migraines. My 17 year old daughter has Hemiplegic Migraines and they have been happening since the age of 5 yrs old. She was in a jog-a-thon, was experiencing a severe Migraine and fell paralyzed on her whole left side. It was terrifying when I got the call from the school. These headaches last 14 hours for her and she has to be in a dark room. She cuddles up in the furthest corner of her bed and rides them out. The worst part is going to at least 20 different practitioners and them being stumped by the diagnosis and not having answers. Dr. Gee is a God-Sent and a true scientific scholar ! He explained many things that all the other doctors left out,or didn't have the knowledge or interest in. Dr. Gee got on his computer and brought up the latest medical journals and research on Hemi-plegic Migraines plus possible medicines that are the cutting edge at this time. Dr. Gee is super personable and listens so well. His personal office space is super cool and decorated to the ceiling with Marvel, Disney and all sorts of characters (great for the eyes of the beholders, kids and adults alike) This setting, at least for my daughter and I, made us feel so comfortable. Dr Gee asked my daughter what she loved to do...(she is killer drummer and guitarist) and it just so happens to be that he is a musician also {drums and guitar}. For the 2nd time in 4 years, Monarch insurance has lost the contract with my neurologist. Dr. Gee (and all Mission doctors?) has been providing Botox treatments to me since Dr. Kenneth Martinez was cancelled in 2014, leaving me no one within the Monarch network willing to treat "new" patients" of intractable migraines with Botox. What a nightmare that was! Now it's happened again and the only neurologist willing to take the discarded Monarch patients is booked past January! The Monarch/United Insurance group has "some 'splaining to do!" Undoubtedly it comes down to financial issues regarding payment amounts. Consider well the next time United sends a brochure stating how much they truly care for their patient clients. If so, why do they cancel contracts without preparing an equally qualified and accessible backup doctor? My husband had his first epileptic seizure in Feb. 2018, and spent 9 total days at Mission Hospital (ER, then ICU, then post-critical care, then rehab). He was assigned Dr. Gee. At his follow-up appointment, Dr. Gee advised my husband that "by the end of the year" he probably could stop taking the anti-seizure meds, although I (the wife) disagreed; I wanted my husband to stay on the meds until at least after his cervical spine fusion surgery in June 2019. Dr. Gee waved off my concerns. Afterward, I told my husband-- "You are not going to stop taking the medication until after your cervical spine surgery- I don't care what he says." As the wife, and the person who experienced my husband's grand mal seizure, I felt that Dr. Gee was not respectful of me of my concerns, waving me off like I'm just a foolish woman. It turned out, many months later, unbeknownst to me, that my husband didn't refill the anti-seizure medication in October (because he remembered Dr. Gee said he could stop "by the end of the year") and one week before Christmas, on Sunday night/Monday at about 1:30 a.m.., he had another seizure. I called '911' for an ambulance. At that point, I was so confused and worried about "why" he had another seizure, believing he was still on the medication! The ER dr. admitted him early Monday morning, and a few hours later, I asked the hospital to contact Dr. Gee's office. When Dr. Gee arrived, he pranced into the room in street clothes (wearing black jeans, a blue jean jacket, a black and white silk scarf), he didn't introduce himself, and I wasn't even sure it was him, so I asked, "Dr. Gee?" and he nodded yes, and announced to the room (not speaking to me, but as if he was on stage), "This is what happens when the patient is 'non-compliant' with his medication." (by now, we discovered he hadn't refilled his prescription in the fall, although I still was confused "why" not). I said to Dr. Gee, "I haven't been able to get a straight answer from him regarding why he stopped taking his meds, but he isn't the type to be non-compliant, he always takes his medications." Dr. Gee didn't even approach my husband's bedside, didn't wake him up to ask questions, and showed zero concern about him as a human being, nor any empathy for me, the worried wife. Dr. Gee announces, "As soon as he wakes up, I see no reason why he can't go home..." and then he left. I was shocked! ("Go home"??). I went out and talked to the nurses, concerned that the hospital was going to send him home while still heavily medicated (still on an IV drip). The nurses assured me that he was not being released yet, something the hospital assigned doctors would do. Tuesday morning, I showed up about 7 a.m. (my husband had been moved to a new room), and he finally was awake and alert. I asked him again, "Why did you stop taking your anti-seizure meds?" and he said, "Because Dr. Gee said I could!" My husband had no recollection of my telling him that I didn't want him to stop taking the medication until after his cervical spine surgery (we've chalked this up to short-term memory loss /damage caused by the first seizure), then the morning rounds hospital dr. stopped by and explained that my husband would be going home by end of the ​day​ and that Dr. Gee ordered a higher dose prescription, from 500mg to 1000mg, because my husband had been "non-compliant" with his medication. This didn't make sense to me! He was on the 500mg dose for nearly a year, and it worked (while he took it), so why double the dose to 1000mg? I later spoke to the afternoon rounds hospital dr. about my concerns, and he agreed with my logic that the double-dose wasn't necessary, advising to take "half" the 1000mg pill (stay on the ​original dose of 500mg instead) until the follow-up appointment with Dr. Gee. When I went to pick up the CVS prescription for the 1000mg, CVS didn't have it, it was back-ordered and so I re-filled his old 500mg prescription... What was really "interesting" is it took over a month before that 1000mg prescription was available, at a cost of over $1000 for 90-days! We didn't pick it up of course, and I found a new neurologist for my husband, someone who is an epileptic seizure specialist, but the fact that Dr. Gee tried to give my husband double-the-usual-dose, a dose so high/unusual​ it couldn't even be filled, was infuriating. I have zero respect for Dr. Gee - for his dismissive, disrespectful​ attitude towards ME (the wife) and my husband, and ESPECIALLY for the "bad doctoring" by prescribing a double-dosage​ of the medication that was working (when taken) at the original dosage. WARNING: If you or a loved one are taken to Mission Hospital for a neurological​ issue (seizure, stroke, etc.), and Dr. Gee is your assigned follow-up doctor, suggest you do your research and find a neurologist who listens. read more

Its very unfortunate that I have to give this type of review, but its good that others don't have to end up like me by reading my review. I was recommended by my primary doctor to see him so I made an appointment and this is one of the BIGGEST mistakes I ever did! I actually don't think Dr Gee is terrible, on the contrary, he is quite good, but the problem lies that he doesn't take the time to get to know his patients. I almost always had to wait to see him and when I did, it was for 5 minutes and he's out the door. One recent appointment I had the flu and didn't feel well and thought I could get in earlier than my appointment time to get home and rest and when I asked to come in earlier, I was told, sorry nothing we can do. At this time, the office was empty and I later found out that he had no appointments and wanted to slow down. They finally worked me in after I threatened to leave. I was then scolded by the office manager about it. The staff in the office is quite bad. Not caring to help except collect the money for the Doctor. I had a horrendous time getting paperwork from them for the Botox I received. I was lucky to find one nice staff member at his office to help me. The real problem was that Dr Gee's office staff NEVER sent a note out that they have left Monarch health group. I had an appointment for Botox injections in two weeks and was Never told of the change except through Monarch themselves. The staff NEVER had the decency to let me know this! I now have to make a quick dash to find another doctor who can do this. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise since they really do stink. I would not recommend this place at all! His appointments are only five minutes, in and out without asking the patient how they are doing doesn't ask if the patient has any questions and doesn't allow the patient an opportunity to ask questions before abruptly leaving. Doesn't seem that he is too interested in caring for my needs. Very hard to get an appt. with him when something unexpected happens with me (This is outside of my routine scheduled follow ups.) To me... getting a visit months later seems a little too long. A couple weeks later or so would have been OK with me. This happens each time too. Nurse Practioner is only just OK. My impression is that she doesn't discuss my visit with Dr. Gee. I dont expect this every time for routine visits, but when I need to see him for what I believe I need his help with and see her instead. Doesn't give me the confidence I need from a doctor or doctor's support staff. This is sad, since this is the first time I ever had felt this way about my health care. read more

I've been Dr. Gee's patient for ten years and I've never had anything but the best care. At appointments, he always listens to me and takes time to discuss my concerns as well as educate me about the newest therapies available. He's clinically up-to-date with the latest treatments, prompt to return phone calls and emails, and he has always gone out of his way to promptly complete any paperwork I've requested. Every visit starts with the doctor himself watching the patient get out of the waiting room chair and walk with the doctor to where they will sit and talk. Dr Gee is by far one of the best doctors in Orange County. My partner suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2008 and Dr Gee was doing rounds one afternoon while I was there with my partner who was in a coma. He is very young looking and a man of few words. My partner lived and she still continues to see Dr. Gee today. He is reserved, but erudite, quiet but speaks volumes when he explains everything to us. This review is not for the actual services provided by Dr. Gee, as I struggled to get an appointment (and did not get one, in the end), but rather for the level of service and ease of scheduling/maintaining an appointment. I was referred to Dr. Gee by another doctor. I called his office and had to settle for an appointment a little over 1 month away, which I needed to get so I could submit a doctor's clearance to drive with the DMV. They did not offer any waitlist or cancellation policy for getting me scheduled sooner. In the next couple weeks, in the hopes of finding a cancellation, I called their office twice during my lunch break, and both times I only spoke to an operator at the health center who told me Dr. Gee's office was closed until after lunch. Fast forward 4 weeks to 4 days before my appointment. I got a call from their office telling me that Dr. Gee would be not be in the office on the day of my appointment. No explanation other than that. I asked, since my driver's license is pending doctor's approval only a few days after my appointment, whether they can reschedule me within a week. They said no: the next available appointment would be 20 days from today. TWENTY DAYS. Again, no explanation for this, only a brief "sorry". I understand this place is busy, but to cancel an appointment with such short notice, after keeping me waiting weeks, and to push me out by another 3 weeks, is unacceptable. I called another neurologist, Dr. Kenneth Martinez, and I spoke with a very friendly desk person who, upon hearing of my tight deadline, found me an open appointment in 3 days thanks to a non-confirmed patient. Dr. Gee is an amazing doctor. He truly cares for all of his patients. He is very attentive to get to the root of your problems. I came to his office over 3 years ago with excruciating headaches. I was getting them months at a time. With his help I have been managing my headaches and rarely get really bad ones. He's also helped me when I was having issues with some tingling that I had going down my leg. I send all my friends there as well as my dad from San Diego. I hope that my review will be bumped up once I actually meet with Dr. Gee, but his office is almost impossible to get a hold of! He came recommended to me as a migraine specialist from a friend. New patient appointments are scheduled 2 months out. Kind of crazy, but OK. I had to reschedule but I couldn't get a hold of a live person, so I left a message. They did call back a few days later in response to my message, and informed me it would be another 2 months out for an appointment! OK, I have no choice. I called at least a week in advance of my scheduled appointment. I still got an auto dial the night before confirming my (now rescheduled) appointment. I now have to reschedule again (I realize this is not their problem, but something I can't avoid). I call and leave a message, no return call. I call back the next day and am on hold for 20 minutes. Appointment was for 11/25 and now cannot get in until Jan 16th! Luckily I am currently under the care of another neuro, but it worries me that it is so hard to get an appointment with him! read more

Horrible attitude and office personnel, which is probably proportionate to his skill, state of well-being and abilities. My mom and sister visited his office, after making an appointment. The office personnel stated that she didn't have an appointment. After convincing the staff that she did in fact have a confirmed appointment, she saw the doctor. He was short, not compassionate, sarcastic and "attitudinal." He scheduled a follow-up with her. When she came back again, the office staff again said she didn't have an appointment. When she saw the doctor finally, after convincing the staff that she did again have an appointment, she also shared this issue with the doctor, and reminded him that he also scheduled the appointment. He was rude, defensive and unprofessional, and stated "next time make an appointment." My sister, who is a professional and former legal secretary was shocked and just couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. He was not kind, informative, concerned, caring, interested or helpful. Doctors forget that they are a business and there are plenty of choices. My recommendation? Shop around. When he loses customers that realize they can go elsewhere, he'll learn... He's the first doctor to ever come out to the waiting room and get me- I never knew doctors ever did that; usually you're brought back by a nurse or assistant and made to wait 10-15 minutes in an exam room before the doctor shows up. Not here- wait time of 5 minutes and Dr. Gee came out himself and brought me to his office to sit and go over my symptoms and what I'd tried to so far and what kind of treatment was I hoping to try- medications, physical therapy, etc. He really went the extra mile to give me steps to take and explain everything and make my appointments comfortable. His staff is kind and his office is nice with easy parking. He's definitely one of the kindest doctors I've come across- I'm glad I found him but am sad I waited so long to seek his help. read more
