Oddly enough, he asked him, on the rare occasion my dad was alone, and "alert" -- my dad was sedated most of the time and being in the ICU, it made him somewhat delirious. To question him about the next steps, when he clearly wasn't thinking straight, without any other family member there was infuriating. My dad took a turn for the worse because of this doctor. He is callous, cold, and he does not care about his patients. Had I taken him to a different hospital, and different doctor, I am positive he would not have died the way he did. Awful place.

Dr Goldberg had my husband on four different inhalers and now my husband is on only one inhalers. I kept telling the doctor and his assistant (who NEVER gets back to you for refill or anything else) that he was overlapping the inhalers he prescribed but he wouldn't listen to me. When I told him his assistant doesn't get back to me, he doesn't believe me!! The deciding factor was my husband was experiencing more shortness of breath in January of 2021 when COVID was still very rampant and I called to get my husband in for an appointment in ASAP. The young receptionist told me APRIL!!! I said my husband is experiencing shortness of breath, can't the doctor see him sooner? NO...APRIL!! She told us to go to the ER where COVID is everywhere!! We immediately changed doctors and our new doctor made the time for us immediately through a ZOOM meeting and spent an hour with us. Dr Goldberg NEVER spent that amount of time or was that thorough. If you want to breathe, I do not recommend Dr Goldberg or his incompetent office.

Dr. Chang reviewed my sleep apnea test with me over two months ago, and together we selected a CPAP machine. Since then, I have heard absolutely nothing. After multiple follow-up calls, I was repeatedly told that the delay was due to my insurance company not approving the equipment. When I contacted my insurance directly, they informed me they could not authorize something that had never even been submitted by the office. On top of that, the patient portal constantly has problems, making communication even harder. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition, and delays like this can directly impact a person's health and quality of life. Patients should not have to chase down basic medical follow-up or discover on their own that paperwork was never submitted. My advice: pick up copies of your exam results and consider seeing another pulmonologist.

My pulmonologist, a superb doctor and diagnostician, retired after many successful years in private…read morepractice. As a result, I sought out a new pulmonologist, and initially decided to see Dr. George Shahinian in Aliso Viejo. Dr. Shahinian, at first glance, seemed to be a personable, capable doctor with a moderate-sized practice. Yet, I discovered that he was actually socially awkward, impatient, and prone to misread significant patient symptoms, leading to an appalling misdiagnosis. When recounting important background information on a new patient, such as me, he discounted what he was told and made a dismissive sarcastic remark. In a vital follow-up appointment, after contracting a virus and being terribly sick for eight days, he walked into the room and proceeded to shake my hand. I gave him an elbow bump and said, "I don't want you to contract what I have." I was coughing non-stop at night and hardly slept for over a week. He prescribed an antibiotic that I had never taken and then opened the door to exit. I was shocked that he hadn't listened to my lungs; after all, he was a pulmonologist. I called him on that and he walked back and in a perfunctory manner listened and said I was clear and okay. I asked him,"Why weren't you going to check me?" He replied, "I didn't think you wanted me to touch you." I reiterated, "I didn't want to make you ill, but I did want a check up. That's why I'm here!" The antibiotic made me profoundly sick on the second day. So much so, I had to throw all the pills out. I called his office and told them I cannot sleep at night and needed a cough expectorant with codeine in order to get some rest. He never provided that which was was my primary need when I saw him. He refused to prescribe a cough expectorant with codeine; instead he prescribed a capsule medication that would desensitize my throat and bronchial tubes to lessen the cough response. I read the side effects, which included "choking," and decided I didn't want to risk it. No help here! Two days later, my wife and I went to Hoag Urgent Care in Aliso Viejo and were seen by a wonderful, caring, and highly competent doctor who quickly diagnosed me with bronchitis, prescribed antibiotics I had taken before (with no adverse affects), and also prescribed a cough expectorant with codeine. Last night, I had my first night of restful, healing sleep in 11 days. Bottom line: Dr. George Shahinian is simply not a good choice for your doctor. He offered no help and, in fact, made me worse with his selection of antibiotics--which I later learned many people cannot tolerate. Moreover, he refused to provide the medication I knew would be helpful. And when he noted my lungs were clear, he seemed to assume I was good to go; when in reality, I had contracted a virus which morphed into bronchitis and was not well at all.

When filling out the paperwork I was asked to sign a full on Arbitration agreement which gives away a lot of basic legal rights that could be applied to him and pretty much him and everyone he is connected with in any disagreement. The front desk assistant refused service when I told her I wasn't signing the rather lengthy arbitration agreement. I asked to speak to the Dr. to see if he would agree to see me without the arbitration agreement and they refused to let me talk with him and instead just turned me away. Fair enough. Beware of what you are signing when you go see this guy. If you are comfortable waiving any legal rights go for it. This is not for me. Makes me wonder about the CYA factor they have in place. It doesn't give a good feel for confidence. I'm very disappointed they tried to slip this paperwork in the big stack of stuff to sign.

I cannot speak more highly of Dr. Yeam and his team. His professionalism and are is outstanding. His bedside manner and his approach to patient care is exceptional. Without reservation I would recommend him for anyone with a sleep disorder. The one and only downside is when calling his office, which is part of the Memorial Care Medical Group. More times than not, you get stuck in corporate phone system hell. The choose this number for X or this number for Y gets pretty frustrating. And then you get a person on the phone that cannot answer a question because of lack of access or is remote from his office and has zero information is a nightmare. Dr. Yeam used to be a solo practitioner or shared with another doctor and contact was simpler and you didn't feel like just another number but a patient. I understand why he joined MemorialCare but corporate medicine is a pain. But because he is such an outstanding physician, I'm staying with him for my care.

Went to Dr. Yeam with multiple sleep studies in hand. Each of them showing an AHI of over 50 without my oral appliance and lower than 4 with it. Dr. Yeam told me in 40 years he has only seen one cure for sleep apnea and that is using a CPAP machine. Based on this logic my oral appliance was not working. He said a CPAP is the only cure for sleep apnea. If it doesn't work for you than you are lazy and not using it. First, a CPAP machine DOES NOT cure sleep apnea. It treats the symptoms of it. Used one for years and it sucks. I guess in a way my sleep apnea was cured because I wouldn't get more than 4 hours of broken sleep per night. No sleep = no apnea. Secondly, there are many forms of treatment for sleep apnea, not just one. I suppose in 40 years there has not been a single technological advancement in the medical field of sleep medicine. Not one, not any, nothing, nada. Do 5 minutes of research and you'll see that's not the case. Congrats you're already more informed than Dr. Yeam. Fast forward and it turns out I have narcolepsy & sleep apnea and will end up getting the MMA surgery. My last sleep study using my somnodent oral appliance, I had a AHI of 2. My AHI was 78 when not using it. The surgery is intense but has a 96% to 97% success rate to perm cure sleep apnea from my conversations and research. I am taking medicine for narcolepsy that has changed my life. If I listened to DR. Yeam my life would be ruined. I would be fighting narcolepsy by using a CPAP. I wouldn't be in line for a surgery that permanently cures sleep apnea. I hope people read this and it helps. If you want to use a CPAP for life than DR. Yeam is your guy. Otherwise, keep looking. Don't let your life be ruined by this doctor and his 40 years of only providing one treatment for the symptoms of a medical problem.

After my initial phone call to the Riverside, and then days later sending an email to them, I received a call from Terry at the Irvine location. My husband was/is going through a medical emergency and I was attempting to establish care and an appointment for him to get checked out. If it was not for Terry being thorough/detailed, proactively securing my husband's medical records by me answering a couple of questions, overall kind, attentive, and we would not have gotten in to see a doctor until the following week. We were booked next day, with Terry's help. As a result, I opted to make the drive from the IE to Irvine, instead of the Riverside location the very next day. Good medical practices are very hard to find these days. Terry actions demonstrated compassion and understanding of my concerns of not having my husband wait any longer for an examination. Thank you Terry! Additionally, our appointment was for 12pm. The doctor was prompt and thorough as well. The receptionist that check us in was also prompt, thorough, she showed concern when it appeared that my husband's oxygen was a tad bit low. Said for him to relax, lay back in the recliner and she would get the doctor in right away. I sincerely appreciate the team here. I'm glad Terry called.
