I found it interesting how many different types of flour, spices, and primary ingredients like borax used for cleaning laundry and disinfecting were available for purchase by the pound. I was able to buy homemade black licorice for $3. Homemade canned strawberry rhubarb butter to spread on toast for $4-5. They also have a huge discount section and the kids loved stretching their $5 budget and got a bunch of Halloween and Christmas specific candy cheaply for no other reason than it being the wrong holiday. My husband bought some Amish sourdough bread, but was disappointed with the taste. Upon looking at the label I noted there were a lot of ingredients. Just something to note. Not all Amish foods are created equal and not all items are organic or without preservatives. Read your labels, make educated choices and admire a store of thrifty, honest, and hardworking folks.

The donuts themselves are just as good. Fresh, delicious and old school in a good way. Choose from a large assortment of classics. Cake and Yeasted varieties. Filled and not. Give them a try if you haven't yet. They've been there a long time for a good reason. Also: we have a family member with a nut allergy. They used to be a lot more friendly also. The chocolate on the chocolate bars is getting less and less. The overall condition of the store is decent, and I'd give the store a solid B for cleanliness, the staff an A for friendliness, and the location an A for easy or access and amenities. Plenty of areas to stretch your legs, walk the dog or get off the road for a nap. Defintely would stop here again.

They were clean and the doors provided more privacy than your standard public restroom door with that gaping space on the side where folks can peer in at you through the crack. Snack and food options were plentiful. You have your standard gas station fare, as well as Subway and McDonald's. The McDonald's had cute little bouquets on the tables made using their cups as vases. I thought that was a nice touch. The microwaves in the gas station were disgusting though. They need to be wiping those things down at more frequent intervals!
