I moved up here 12 years ago from Pittsburgh, and always had my ears lowered by a professional barber. I spent my first two years here getting butchered by the cheap $10 assembly line places, getting a different person every time. Stopped at Joel's and Viola [sic], I received a real hair cut. Spent the next five or so years with Joel. Then he got so busy, I could not book and had Mr. Flint cut my my hair, another consummate professional. Get to know these guys, honestly. Take the time to schedule an appointment and you will not be disappointed. They can fix the crap for which you pay $10. Mr. Flint has been my barber for the last five years or so, and I just booked with him tonight for Thursday. He knows, me; I know him, and I won't be disappointed. Go ahead and save $5 somewhere else, and you will look like a cockapoo that that just flunked out of Westminster. It's just that simple! Dave R. Chaska read more

I'm a 74-year-old Man who for two years has been getting his haircut by Ray at Joels Barbershop in Victoria Mn. I've had nothing but good experiences with Ray through all my many visits. I'm writing this review not out of anger but out of shock I I had an 1 pm appointment with Ray today I got to the shop about 5 minutes before my appointment, Ray was not there, and I was told he was at lunch and would be back shortly, no problem. Ray returned looked over to where I was sitting with another gentleman and asked how we were doing we said good, he answered a phone call and talked in general about last night's football game then went to his desk and started to look at his computer all the time not recognizing my presence. I got up from my chair and approached him and said I think I have a 1 o'clock appointment. He said I can cut your hair in a few minutes and If you didn't like it, you could get out! I replied Ray you must be in a bad mood then he said I am. So, no more words said, and I left! I never experienced that level of hostility from a businessman before. Ray, I hope you get through whatever caused your behavior today, good luck. read more

If you're looking for a no-nonsense, I grow chest-hair and belch whisky-type of barbershop, then Joel's in Downtown Victoria is the destination where you should get your next trim. Things to know: ***** I. LOCATION & PARKING The establishment is located on the corner of a tiny strip mall across from a now closed grocery store. Parking is plentiful, just like pretty much anywhere in the suburbs. II. SERVICE Almost a month ago, I asked for a part, with a number on one side, and a fade on the other. I called, made an appointment, and went in the very next day. Almost effortless. My barber was there early, understood what I wanted, cut my hair well while making little chatter but enough that it wasn't awkward. We wrapped up, in about twenty minutes. III. AMBIENCE & DÉCOR It's not the largest space, and it's plenty for a barbershop. There are about several seats that should make the wait not too long. There's also plenty of Minnesota sports memorabilia on the walls to make you feel like it's a neighborhood joint. No Packer fans allowed. IV. PRICES I think it was like $20 a cut or something. Slightly pricey, but they do a great job. Better than paying $14 to get a bogus cut. So, it's fair. V. OTHER TIDBITS -One of the reasons why I am not giving up that fifth star is because they do not offer shaves along the neck or trims around the face, which, to me, is essential in a classic barbershop. -Was not offered any gel or pomade. -Cash only. It's inconvenient that they have an ATM there, but won't invest in Square to take credit and debit cards. VI. OVERALL I had a great experience there, and when at home again I'm confident enough in their services to consider returning. read more

If you want to pay top dollar go to Joel's. I can't believe they charge $35 for a man's haircut. I think they will be out of business in no time. read more

Joel is one of the nicest guys around and gives a great cut for a great price. He is also a total computer geek so if you have technology questions, he can help you out! If you need an excuse for a mini-road trip, drive to Victoria, get a haircut, and then walk a block to Floyd's for a bump. In the summer, the backyard of Floyd's feels kind of like a beach shack and the grill is usually going. Victoria has a lot going on right now and Joel is a part of what makes this a great place. read more

Made my son an appt to see Ray, who when he sat down asked what he wanted done. When my son told him he wanted it cut but wasn't sure how long to leave it (as it had gotten quite long and he wasn't sure how many inches would be too short or too long) Ray said you have 15 min of my time and that's it, so my son said sure I'll get a pic out and that apparently annoyed of Ray who then took the cape off and told him to get a haircut somewhere else. I was there a week or two prior with my other son and saw Todd, who was nice enough when my son didn't know exactly how much take off Todd gave him a couple of examples of this is 2" this is 3" (and did a great job) but apparently Ray can't be bothered to take that kind of time. It's unfortunate but I won't be bringing my 3 sons here again. I walked over to get coffee while my son got his haircut and he came over a couple min later saying he got kicked out. This is a kid who was dying to cut off his hair for summer! Strangest appt ever - I guess Ray got up on the wrong side of the bed. read more

I stumbled upon Joel's Original Barbers a while back and I haven't bothered to go anywhere else since! Joel's offers a great atmosphere to get your hair cut while catching up on some of the local news. Definitely an old school vibe going on here. He just moved to a great new location so he has a little more space and just added a 2nd barber. It's definitely worth the trip out to Victoria to get your hair cut. Joel takes time to figure out what you want and does a great job making sure I always look great. read more

Joel's offers a truly unique experience for those of us who have grown up going to the great clips/cost cutters/fantastic sams and receiving a medicore haircut and no intellectual conversation. Joel's is definitely a guys place. ESPN on the flat screen, lots of male banter, and a great haircut. In short, you will never lose your "Man Card" going to Joels! On last tip; if you are there in the evening or on a weekend, make sure to ask for a beer...he usually keeps some around for us Yelpers. read more

I love supporting local businesses in the VICTORIA area, however from the moment I walked in and wasn't greeted after 5 minutes I should've left. The awkward silence was deafening while I continued to patiently wait to at least be acknowledged. Finally I was able to ask the wait time and if they accepted AMEX. There was a curt "no" along with a lengthy wait time. I spend a fair amount on my monthly upkeep and it would've been nice having an establishment close to home but that's not the case here. Quite frankly, it's kind of sad to have such poor customer service skills in an area that's growing rapidly. I almost thought they were a community based business but obviously not. I'll just continue supporting the higher end businesses in the area and not waste my time here. PS Salon Spatoria is where my husband goes and they're extremely welcoming there. In the end, you get what you pay for. Cheers! read more

This was my first barbershop experience since I was a kid, back when my grandfather took me. After years of bad cuts at various chains and salons I decided to give my local barbers a try, and was absolutely thrilled by the results. I finally have a style to my hair. Great guys, relaxed atmosphere, and worth every penny. read more

I booked two appointments on Joel's website. One for me and one for my son. My son was unable to make it so I replied to the confirmation email to cancel his appointment. I was unable to call on Sunday as Joel's was closed. I showed up today hoping they received my son's cancellation, however, that was not the case and owner Ray was less than professional. I was accosted by Ray for failing to call him personally prior to canceling my son's appointment which I booked online. I apologized to him numerous times stating I tried to cancel online via the confirmation email that comes direct from the shop. He wouldn't accept my apology, and I was getting in the barber chair, he yelled, "You know what?! Just get out!"He blamed me for the missed appointment and that I "cost him $25" and after trying to plead my case, he condescendingly said for me to "have fun at Sportclips." I repeatedly told him I was sorry, but his website is antiquated and difficult to cancel appointments through, however he continued to be aggressive, rude, and uncompromising. I can handle being yelled at by an immature, obnoxious, store owner, but he did it in front of my four-year old daughter who was holding my hand through the entire interaction, which just showed an extreme lack of his self control. I feel badly for the woman who appeared to be working there at the time as she was both very nice to my little girl and tried to calm down an enraged barber. I've been going to Joel's since Joel owned it. I've seen both Flint, and now Ray, but unless he apologizes, I'm going elsewhere. I highly recommend men use another barber that values long-term, loyal, and local clientele. read more
