I explained that I really didn't know anything about convoluted taxes and the family-related firm we'd gone with the past 2 years had been highly problematic - which is why we needed a new person/firm. They explained that fees were based on the number of forms. I scanned mounds of pages for both 2023 and previous 2022 year. This sat, unreviewed, for a few of weeks. When the person did look at them - I received a nasty email stating how I had "blindsided" them. Our past filings included many more forms than I had any working knowledge of when I first contacted. They assumed we would balk at the price & accused me of "blindsiding". I have no clue about taxes - which is why we were looking for a professional to do them. Because of the OR portion, no, it is not particularly easy to find someone outside OR to do the job. (OR has law that a CPS MUST be certified to do OR taxes) We would've paid the fair price based on the # of forms it turned out to be. Now - I'm scrambling to find someone only 2 weeks before Tax Day.

I saw these reviews when I found out we would be working with this company after a referral from my husband's friend. I was trying to give this business the benefit of the doubt without actually basing off reviews. This is the truth. We got our taxes done by Russell Purkey - who is the son of Michael Purkey (A father and son duo). After having everything put together to prep for this tax return - to make it easy for the accountant; Russell didn't take the packet that I had prepped which I thought was very odd. Usually, accountants take everything so when they need to retrieve information, it is all there! Instead, he took down notes but not EVERYTHING! After receiving our tax return just yesterday, we were both shocked from what was received by things not added on correctly or tax EIN weren't input as they should be. Also, we ended up owning $15k. WOW! Not to mentioned, my husband was under the impression that the cost would be much cheaper but Russell was charging high. PLEASE, get everything in writing when doing business with this company. I see red flags everywhere!! I had to call a few CPAs today and they all say that they get all of client's info regarding taxes and now we are having to get a second opinion because this didn't seat well with me at all. Also, I called the Purkey & Laughlin Tax & Accounting this morning; which Russell doesn't have an extension number or name to direct my voicemail to. So, in return I left the voicemail to Michael. My concerns were valid and obviously of urgency; which I waited 4 hours before having to call back again and ended up speaking with Michael on the phone because Russell was apparently busy and hard to reach. Apparently, they can't do anything about it to fix this. It was obvious that Michael was trying to protect his son Russell and not hold him accountable and make an excuse saying bad communication between my husband and Russell.
