I see what the hype was about. My transmission was going but I was still able to drive the car while I waited for the new one to be delivered. There was a crazy snowstorm and there happened to be a holiday so the transmission took 2 weeks to come. I was expecting about maybe a weeks wait for the new one to be installed these guys had me driving in TWO DAYS. Car runs better than it did before I can't say enough about these guys. They were kind and welcoming and conducted a free assessment on the car to determine what was wrong. Once they took it in to work on it, they contacted me before beginning the work to get my consent. They allowed me time to decide if I wanted to move forward with the fix and made sure that I had all the relevant info I needed to make an informed, unpressured decision. I would go back to these guys for a transmission problem in a heartbeat. Everybody who works there seems dedicated towards one thing which is solving the problem. They were very clearly, repeatedly saying to me "we don't want to take your money unless we have to." Our interaction today ended with them emphatically stating that they didn't think my issue was a transmission issue after all, and recommending that I return to my normal mechanic. They did not charge me for the diagnostic. I got extremely good vibes from them. I hope not to have any transmission problems moving forward, but if I do, these are 100% the guys I am going to. They are the most thorough and very attentive to your wants and needs. They worked so hard for me and I had a crappy warranty company and they got a miracle for me. I'm forever in debt to them. With out having that they are honest and very great at what they do. My car it's been 3 years and I am still happy with the great job that they did. My car is there now but it's nothing to do with the work they have done for me. Different problem but I know that my baby and I are in the best of hands with them. They are absolutely the most honest, kindest, generous and the most patient people that I have ever met. They are the complete opposite of the experience that I thought that I was going to have. It was a Wednesday, I needed a new transmission, and my warranty was going to expire on Sunday. Long story short, I had my car back in a week. My check engine light came on; the tachometer RPM meter was reading out of whack, and my van wouldn't shift to second gear. My own mechanic advised that I needed a transmission which would cost roughly $3000. Not giving up on my van, I went to my husband's mechanic for a second opinion. They, too, believed it might have to do with the transmission which could have been very costly. Not giving up... I did a thorough search online and found rave reviews of "Joe Pirrone Transmissions." Devin (the manager) was extremely thorough in explaining in microscopic detail the trouble with these types of minivans. He diagnosed the issue quickly and kept me in the loop constantly. It was a simple transmission relay that cost less than $141. Devin (Joe Pirrone Transmission) could have ripped me off like most mechanics, but Devin didn't and I commend his excellent work. I broke down in Philly. I was scared, people were mean and rude while my vehicle was stuck in traffic being a single female I was in distress. I waited for the tow truck , which he was so nice. I had it dropped off at Dodge dealership only to be told I would have to wait 30 cars ahead of e and MAYBE they can fix it...then I quickly had it towed to Discount Transmissions. They said we will have it one in 3 days. 3 days came and still no one even touched or looked at it. What a dishonest shop. I contacted Joe Pirrone's shop... he knew that I was in a bad situation and went to pick up my vehicle. No run around here. He was prompt, kept in contact with me daily, fixed the transmission, and I made it back to Florida safely!!!!! Thank you so much for a job well done. God bless these gentlemen, they were very helpful throughout the whole mechanical ordeal. I needed to have my transmission replaced and conveniently, they accepted my warranty policy as payment. They (David and J) have a great sense of integrity and compassion for their customers. My car had to stay in the shop for a few more days, unfortunately. Needed to have my truck looked at for an oil leak. I called and they told me to bring it by in the morning - even though they were booked they moved things around to lift it and showed me some issues. They could've told me anything to get the work done - but they suggested I ask my mechanic to replace the valve cover gasket first and see if there's still an issue. I had a great experience with Joe Pirrone Transmissions! I have a 2006 Mercury Mariner and the trans went! I took it to my normal mechanic (who does not do trans). I then started to shop around. After 10 phone calls I stumbled across Devin. Later I found out he is the grandson of Joe and that this shop has been around for generations! I am an African American woman and know nothing about transmissions and my husband was out of town. I got every price from 1500 to 3500 for a used or rebuilt trans. Even though I know I don't know anything about transmissions, Devin took the time to explain each and every detail. He gave me a ball park price of 1500-1900 depending on the damage and rebuilding my transmission if possible. BUT OOOOHHHH NOOO! I let a friend of my husbands talk me into using HIS GUY! Well I got my car towed (using my AAA) to his guy who quoted me a price of 500-600. I met the AAA guy and we were well on our way. I REALLY liked Devin, but said he was triple the price of the OTHER GUY! I went to the garage of the OTHER GUY and it was so filthy I could barely walk onto the premises. (It was a nice day and I did have on my brand new wedge sandals) Any way, it gave me the itchy scratchies (women know what I mean) The next day, he THE OTHER GUY calls my husband (who is now back in town) and he tells him that the cost is 2200!!!! WTF! Of course it was now this and that and the other! My husband using his bravado talked him down to 2000!!! (ok so did the work REALLY cost 2200?) So I politely, asked my husband to GET MY CAR AWAY FROM THE OTHER GUY! Here is what Devin did at Joe Pirrone: 1) Picked up my car FOR FREE from THE OTHER GUY 2) Let me know when they had possession of my car 3) Explained everything they needed to do to my car 4) Gave me an estimated time frame for which the car would be done (3-5 days) 5) Gave me an update in between just to let me know where things stood 6) Called me the day it was ready and asked me what day and time was good for me to pick it up 7) Gave me a 12 month warranty (which I found out was not very common) and more than what other places offered 8) LAST BUT NOT LEAST CHARGED ME 1700! WHICH WAS 200 LESS THAN HIS HIGHEST QUOTED NUMBER IN THE BEGINNING! He could have charged me the 1900 and I would not have been non the wiser! Having a trans go is NEVER a convenient experience, but going to Joe Pirrone Trans made it a better experience altogether. I am a REAL person and you just can't make up this kind of thing! LOL! I took my 03 honda crv in for a transmission rebuilt .he did his job for the transmission and I am very excited about the work after that my car kept giving him a hard time but not due to the transmission.I had to wait another 3 weeks while he figure out the problem, but i was not going to rush if i want my car running right. I brought my 2002 F150 4x4 in for a transmission. It had 160,000 miles on it and it gets used a lot for towing and loading, the trans was slipping just a little, but I figured it was do. I bring it in and they say I do in fact need one and quote me what I think is a fair price. I set up a time and drop my truck off. I pay (no haggling, full price) drive home and it feels a little loose. I bring it to my Mechanic for his opinion, thinking maybe it's me. Nope, it's slipping he says, bring it back. Keep in mind, my Mechanic is the one who recommend them in the first place. I bring it back and drop it off for the day, they say it was something they forgot to adjust. That's fine, transmissions are complex, especially modern 4x4 ones. I take it home, slipping again. I bring it back a total of 7, that's right, 7 times. Towards the end I was more and more pissed. I'm not sure it was ever 100%, but it was good enough, I guess. It's now 60,000 miles later, I don't use this truck to haul and the trans is going again. Big FAIL. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience! After an initial test drive and look into the type of transmission I had, they suggested a fluid change might be all it would take. During the same diagnostic, Devon let me know that if that didn't fix it, he would be able to get me a low-mile, refurbished transmission from a trusted source at 1/4 the cost a dealership was quoting me. When they went to change the fluid, they realized it was just short fluid. He called to let me know this saved me money since they just needed to add fluid and that they would look into why I was leaking fluid before I came to get it. Just a couple hours later they had great news that the source of the leak was just a loose bolt and I was able to leave the shop having only paid $130! Devon suggested I bring it back in a month just to make sure they correctly identified the source of the slow leak and solved the problem. Upon picking up the car it was clear they addressed the issue. It accelerated like a dream!!! Not only were they communicative, honest, and affordable - they got the job done all in a day's time. Great experiance today in this shop. After running away from aamco, i came here, they treated me with respect and diagnosed my car for free.

The owner is extremely nice.Especially compared to the other transMission places in philly . But joe was Very kind and I believe that's how all businesses should be ran .However, I believe all transmission places (Not just joes transmission ) should put in a little more Time in actually diagnosing the problem; rather than just trying to get you to replace the whole transmission. I asked the mechanic to check on my transmission fluids, Stating that could be the reason why my check engine light came on. I was told by a mechanic here that " my transmission fluids being low is not the reason my transmission problem is coming up in the diagnostics & to replace the whole transmission". I took my car to a private mechanic. He opened up the transmission and seen I was barley running on fluids. My private mechanic told me it was insane to replace a transmission with 60K mileage . My car has been running better and back to new and my check light hasn't even flinch to come back on. I almost paid $2,000 To fix a $200 problem......... By reading the reviews I can tell that joe does good work, His hospitality is better than tons of his competitors in Philadelphia. . So I don't want to take that away from him. I can't say enough good things about Joe Pirrone Transmission. We have had them replace transmissions on 2 of our vehicles and they are hands down the best. Our first car was under warranty and Devon did all the work with our warranty company, which to be honest I was very nervous about as it was a new used car and I felt the warranty company was not going to comply, but no worries. He knew how to talk to them and they got my van up and running in no time and made all my anxiety go away with the reassuring way they talk and explain matters to you. So of course when we ran into problems with another car 2 years later we knew who we were coming back to. Nothing had changed, professional, courteous staff. They even went out of their way to give me a ride home. The process was easy and they worked with us to give us a more than fair price (no warranty this time around) and had me and my family back in the road safely and still with money to take care of our regular bills in no time and I'm so grateful to them.
