I originally called for an appointment and quote. They gave me approximately $700 after insurance. Went the next day since I had horrible tooth pain and was seen promptly at my appointment time. We did X-rays even though my family dentist already sent theirs over(which is fine because maybe they want inspect further.) They said I needed a root canal and told me to wait outside for a quote. That's when the service started going downhill. I was quoted over $1000 after insurance, they were going to charge my insurance plus me paying $1000 cash. I felt like the price was unreasonable since I did a estimate on my insurances website so I said I'll have to think about it. Immediately on the spot they offered a 25% discount, good for today only. After that happened I knew that they were doing shady practices and declined. They further said what price I will be fine with doing the procedure today and they will ask the doctor to see if he will be okay with. I declined since I thought the whole process is bad practice. I then asked for my x-rays so I can show another clinic, they said they would e-mail it but I never got it. Lol. At the end, they asked me for payment for my deductible - all while charging 3% extra because I chose to pay with credit card. lol.

Upon walking in to the office, I was welcomed by a nice staff person who instructed me to fill out some paperwork. I was then taken to a room for the consultation. Dr. Yu advised to have a root canal based on his evaluation. I was then moved to another room for the actual procedure after having anesthesia injections into my mouth. After some prep work done by his very comforting staff, it was time for the games to begin! I appreciated how his staff guided me through the prep work and explained what they were doing. It honestly feels really weird to have your mouth wide open while having strange objects being placed inside. During the procedure, I could see they were passing instruments back/forth. There were weird sounds, noises and smells. I never felt uncomfortable as they always checked in to see if I was doing OK. Before I knew it, the procedure was over and Dr. Yu went over recovery expectations and the like. Overall, it was a very efficient and comfortable process. Hopefully I won't need to return anytime soon but it's nice to know that this office is available in the local area.

I was afraid of the possible complications that may occur if I did any major treatment now on my tooth. But the pain was unbearable so I knew I had to seek treatment right away. Being as I'm a dentist myself I knew it was absolutely imperative to find the right doctor to work on my upper front tooth. I was referred by a dental colleague of mine and am so happy that she sent me to Downey Endo. The doctor (who I unfortunately forgot his name) was so thorough and professional. We had a long discussion and reviewed X-rays together and I appreciated that he had the patience to go over all the risks and benefits for doing treatment. I never felt pressured into doing treatment at all and he was empathetic to my situation. I went ahead and got treatment done that same day and it was the best dental experience I ever had. Easier than the only filling I ever got when I was 12. His numbing technique was spot on (didn't feel a thing). I was comfortable the entire time. And I noticed he took his time doing my root canal which I appreciated. I had one day of gum soreness and pain but after that my tooth felt normal again. I stopped by to get x-rays and have my teeth exam and I was getting ready to hear a lot of bad news. Knowing that I had not visited the dentist in about 8 to 10 years I knew that there would be work that would be needed to be completed.. The dentist was very helpful with letting me know the severity of it, but at the same time showed optimism and made me feel comfortable. Not only are we looking into the repairment of my tooth but also he explained to me the things that would be needed to be done in order to restore my teeth. I had plaque built up and my gums were very swollen with numbers high as fives and six which is not great and he explained to me that it would take a few appointments of deep cleaning and laser treatment in order to restore them. The appointments that I've had with them have been painless, and they have always made me feel comfortable while visiting them. This really helped me overcome my fear of visiting in the dentist and I actually do look forward to seeing them for my next appointment. Steven Lu was my doc to perform the redu of the original root canal. Was in the chair for 1 hr 45 min and which is a record for me. This is full on oral surgery and was painless for my situation. you have to understand that is done upside down and through a microscope with an assistant so it's a big deal. All I can say is I had no discomfort and he was able to go in to 2 canals clean them up and put the temporary crown back on for the dentist to finish the crown. If you need some specialized dental work that involves root canals this is the place to go and Doc Steven is the man to do it!
