Five stars for Dr. Wahba. She's great with fearful patients like me. I am 67 and have successfully avoided the dentist in 40 plus years. But now it was time to address a cracked molar that I'd been living with for a while...and....an old old old filling from my childhood days that fell out. Dr. Wahba understood my fear and was gentle, reassuring, and attentive to whenever I needed a break...she also talked me through her steps and knowing what she was about to do before she did it, helped alleviate and ease my extreme anxiety. I'm someone who loves extreme sports ...heli-skiing, sky diving, ziplining, kayaking whitewater ...but I'm scared of dental procedures... the sound of drills, the smells, the debris in my throat...i have an extreme sensitivity to the administration of anesthesia....dental trauma remembered from childhood and teen years...being told to stop uncontrollable shaking when I couldn't. I alerted the staff to my seemingly irrational fear. Dr. Wahba and her staff were so kind and compassionate. Dr. Wahba is a meticulous...careful...conservative doctor who doesn't like to damaged good teeth if she doesn't have to and most importantly she knew why the administration of the anesthesia hurt me so much...she pushed the anesthesia so slowly, it didn't hurt. Turns out it's not the needle, it's the way the anesthesia enters that was so painful. Other docs rushed it, she didn't. Bless her. Dr. Wahba listened to my feedback. And worked with me to make the dental procedures less traumatizing. Bears repeating -- five stars for Dr. Wahba and her very capable assistant Julie/Julia (im hard of hearing in my right ear, so sorry if i didnt get her name right) but she was lovely and helped to keep me comfortable...Julie/Julia made sure the debris in my throat got sucked out with this vacuum tube so I wasn't gagging...and she helped me whenever my earbuds fell out. ....I was listening to love songs really loud to drown out the sound of the drill. I even brought a small fan to blow away the smells from my nose...I appreciated that they didn't laugh at me, at least not to my face. This is not to say things went totally smooth. I'd never gotten a crown before and both the temporary and the crown itself for my molar was ill-fitting the first time. I needed to make a better mold, so the doctor assessed the reason why and wanted to make it right. She had me remake the mold again at a third visit and this time with her guidance. The doctor had to help me to cleanly bite down on the playdough-like mold-making goo to make a better mold for the permanent crown. It was disappointing and alarming when the temporary crown for that molar fell out within three hours of leaving the dental chair, despite the assistants best efforts to make the temporary fit. I know they tried hard to fit the temporary, but i made a bad mold so they truly did their best...happily that tooth never was painful despite the huge crack in it, so I was able to tolerate the time it took to manufacture a new porcelain crown....and luckily I didn't swallow or choke on it. I appreciate that the doc put a stat (hurry up) on it so the second crown for that molar came within a week, instead of the initial two weeks wait. The office gets a bad rap in other reviews but I found everyone very helpful. Jessica helped me increase my carecredit catd so I could pay for the work being done on a payment plan at no interest for 24 months. Insurance is more like a discount and covers little of the repairs, so Jessica helped to make it easier to pay for dental work which requires full payment at the time of service. You will experience sticker shock at the cost, but that's modern life in 2026. You might feel some upsell of procedures, but for me after 40 plus years of avoidance, I know I need a deep cleaning and whatever preventative procedures is required to keep my teeth and gums healthy. I was able to obtain timely appointments ...but know that this office is only open from Monday to Wednesday. I did find it alarming that the dentist was left calling for help at one point during one of the procedures....because all of the assistants went on mandatory breaks at the same time...seems like a reexamination of scheduling might be required, or perhaps this was an unusual day...but I don't think the dentist should be left stranded without help . I'm still getting used to the crowns, one fits like a glove the other still seems problematic as it's changing how I chew, and forcing me to chew slowly but perhaps that's a good thing, at least it doesn't hurt. And the wait to see the doctor can be long, in my case in the first consultationvisit over two hours. Thank goodness i was able to push back other appointments on my cell phone...dental work was my priority. The worst... My two children (ages 6 and 2) had appts at 10am. We weren't seen til close to 12pm and there was only 1 other person that was being seen already. The staff and dentist apologized but we were soo upset already. While we waited in one of the offices after x-rays for my 6 year old... We didn't hear much conversation but heard a bit of rustling... and found out the dentist proceeded to see another patient in the ofc next to us when we heard the drilling. I was sooo angry AGAIN!!! She came in and apologized again saying it was an emergency. I was so shocked and pissed. My kids were so hangry... It just sucked. She quickly saw that my two year old wasn't sitting still and upset so she said she can't see him. She quickly looked at my 6 year old and told the dental assistant to just clean her teeth and left. I had an appointment at 10 AM and didn't get out of there till 1 PM. He called me to the back to do x-rays about 10:20 and then they put me in a dental chair to wait for the dentist which didn't come in till about 12:40 after I got up and asked how much longer it would be. It was hard to understand the dentist as she speak, speaks broken English and her assistant does speak English, so I was kind of going back-and-forth listening to the both of them. The office manager told me I need to get a loan. I told her I took a picture of the loan place and told her that I would do it at home. I like paying as I go. When I go over my insurance deductible . I stop all work and the start again in January when I have the whole deductible. The office manage took my phone and registration me for the loan. I told her my phone was going to die she said it will only take me 5 minutes to get this done for you. I asked her for the paperwork for all the work that had. Even done. I called to ask if they accepted my insurance and a referral from my main provider, they confirmed and asked me to set them as my main provider and gave me an appointment for a crown referral. Upon arrival I was made to wait over an hour and twenty minutes for an X-ray and first time consultation rundown. I asked again if they accepted my insurance which they confirmed. I was seen by a temporary dentist who was just covering for the main dentist. At the end the secretary kept trying to push a payment plan on me when I insisted on using my insurance. Kept asking me about my credit score and that they can set me up with monthly payments to which I declined. I only went for a crown service request and they added so many extra services; a filling, a cleaning, the crown and they also kept insisting on selling me a missing tooth for $3k+ I politely declined and just asked for what was on my referral request. This was more a sales pitch than an actual consultation. Waited about three weeks to receive a letter that says they don't accept my insurance, well at least the doctor that filed it doesn't. The hygienist and dentist I saw were GREAT. But the office staff was so incompetent and rude that I had to switch providers. Multiple reschedules, sending texts with different times for when the appointment would be on the same day, and just ignoring you when you walk into the office. I will NOT be retuning back to Smiles West denial office! After the dentist did her visual exam. I waited in the exam room over an hour for her to return to do the cleaning that took Dr. Lau less than 15 minutes to complete. Dr. Lau was so rough during the cleaning. That evening when I flossed at home my gums were still swollen and fragile from her doing the basic cleaning. The wait time was ridiculous ! My appointment was at 1:30pm. I left the office after 3:30pm. That is an insane wait time. I figured maybe there was a lot of patients in the waiting room to be seen. So I took a walk to the waiting room to find it empty. No consideration of my valuable time . Stop with the expensive sales pit, $650 mouthguard, $1500 treatments of some type and $200 irrigation treatment. I wish I read the reviews before I came in, just insane. When I was speaking to them on the phone they said they provide a membership called kleer and they sent the link for me to sign up. I almost finished signing up and paying but I thought I want to see the dentist first and decide. Make sure to read the reviews before you go. They denied me basic teeth cleaning and told me that they would only offer me deep cleaning because I "needed" it. I was told by the office staff/manager that my insurance would cover a certain amount and that I would be responsible for the rest which is did pay up front. But months later I received a bill for more and their response was that my insurance refused to cover the cost even though I was told by the office manager that my insurance would cover it. NOT HELPFUL. Elderly father, 88 years old went in to have work done. He couldn't figure out how to use his cell phone to get a Care Credit account approved. So he told them to just charge his existing credit card that he already had. He went home and had his children help him apply and was approved for the Care Credit card. The dentist office was phoned and was asked to reverse the charge to his credit card and put it on the Care Credit card. The dentist office said they couldn't do that. When they were asked to please make an exception they refused. ** Seems there are times you should make an exception for our seniors who don't always understand todays technology. ** The Care Credit card can allow up to 24 months no interest. This place is absolutely ridiculous! DO NOT COME HERE AT ALL! I came here years ago to get a crown done and I paid everything in full. I was unable to come back for a while because I moved away but when I came back they refused to honor that I had already paid and made me purchase the crown again. A year later I received a bill in the mail for $300! I've tried calling twice and leaving messages and no one would return my call. Finally I was able to get a hold of the office manager Jackie. She did not listen to me and kept repeating herself about the bill. I kept telling her that I paid in cash and I know I paid but she kept saying I didn't. I was a student last year when this happened so I know I paid, because everything was out of pocket. She refused to even try to understand what I was saying and insisted I was not letting her speak when she was not saying anything new at all. I kept asking her if there was anyone else I could speak to because she clearly not trying to help me resolve anything but she refused to pass the phone to anyone else. Avoid letting them take you down a slippery slope of emptying your wallet for them. Fortunately, I left before they had me situated where it's harder to say no at that point but they did waste my time. I made an appointment for a cleaning and I made sure over the phone that there was nothing out of pocket. They have my information, I had been there about a year ago for an emergency procedure, which I will share my experience at the end. Anyway, got there, filled out some paperwork again and one of the clauses to initial raised a red flag for me. It was committing me to go with any additional treatments the Dr. would say I need. Naturally I wanted to confirm again that it was nothing out of pocket today, and BAM! that was when the desperate salesperson vibe starts coming out. She says welllll there's a fee for XRay and copay to see the Dr. (both of which I don't want) and if it's a deep cleaning then there will be a copay. So I asked if I can just do a regular cleaning regardless and she says no, if Dr. recommends deep cleaning you can't do just a regular cleaning. I didn't want to pay out of pocket at all because I had the insurance and it was about to expire so I wanted to squeeze in a cleaning since I haven't done any with the insurance and only used it for an emergency procedure last year but heck I was already there so I figure why not just see how much a deep cleaning was. She would not disclose it at all. Well isn't that something? Btw, she hasn't confirmed to me the regular cleaning is nothing out of pocket so I went back to confirm that because I brush/floss 2X a day so I was pretty sure I didn't need a deep cleaning, but even that she cannot confirm. She goes to ask when was the last time I had my teeth clean so I told her it was 3 months ago. Then she tells me well nope your insurance won't let you clean so often. I was like what the heck? It has nothing to do with this office or insurance. I had some restorations done elsewhere and they included a cleaning for me. The only right choice to make here was to leave and never come back but also do the world a favor and warn them about this pit hole they would be walking into. About my visit about a year ago...I had a cracked tooth and urgently needed to get it looked at. Well one good thing was they were able to do the surgery to remove my tooth without a long wait. However, I was desperate at the time and they recommended I also get a bone graft, which I did and paid $900 for it. Pain had taken over control of me so I had a lack of judgement and didn't even research it. It ended up being infected and had to be dug out anyway so bone graft went to waste. I ended up going to another private office to get my implant and crown done for $2,700 total. No bone graft needed either as I had enough bone denisity in my jaw already. Guess what this place quoted me for implant/crown? $5,000 I think you can paint a pretty good picture about this place at this point. read more

I should have read the yelp reviews before coming here. By far the worst dental experience I've ever had. Wish I knew the names of the two women who serviced me, one was an older Latina woman who performed the X-rays, the other was a young Asian dentist. I came in today to have one tooth serviced since my filling came out, I asked the technician to only take one X-ray, and not the full mouth to limit my radiation exposure since I am a cancer survivor and have had previous radiation treatments. The technician took one X-ray of the tooth, didn't get it right, took another one, still didn't get it right, so I said to her, if she didn't get the third one right then I don't want any more. I also mentioned to her I brought my full mouth X-rays that were taken just a couple of months ago at another dental office. She said, they weren't able to use them, then rudely asked me why I didn't stay with that dentist. Then while taking photos of the tooth she forcefully moved my head around and said, "don't move" in a rude manner. After, the rude technician moved me to another room to wait for the doctor. When the doctor came in, she examined my tooth, asked me questions about the sensitivity, then took a step back and said " sorry, we can't help you here because you were rude to my associate." Excuse me!! I was rude?? I explained to her what was said, and she said I had a valid reason to be concerned considering I had radiation treatments in the past, but that it is perfectly safe to have full mouth X-rays every 6 months, ya safe for your bank accounts! First of all, that technician was the one who was extremely rude, secondly why sit me down and examine me first before telling me you don't want to service me because I was rude!? That technician knew there was a complaint coming and lied to cover her own ass. Both workers are very unprofessional so I filed a formal complaint with my insurance company. Update: the dentist at Smiles West Montebello told me I had at least 7 cavities that needed to be filled. Obviously I declined to make a follow up appointment with them, and instead went to a much higher rated dentist, Arcadia Dental Group. The new dentist told me I had ZERO cavities that warranted filling, and instead recommended using Sensodyne toothpaste to help with some tooth sensitivity I was experiencing. This has totally taken care of the sensitivity and I am so glad I didn't get SEVEN unnecessary fillings!! read more

As similar to other reviews they tried to overcharge my grandparents. My grandparents being in their 70s were quoted 24k total worth of dental work WITH INSURANCE. They attempted to persuade my grandparents to apply for a credit card to pay for this ridiculous unethical amount. They declined of course. RUN!! Do not waste your money here. I am having to get their work fixed because the $1,000 crown I got done here was fit loosely and is causing pain and discomfort. My new dentist disappointedly asked who had done my previous dental work. And they're crooks. After not visiting for over a year, I took one of their calls, and it was Jackie trying to schedule me for a regular annual follow-up. When I told her I found a new dentist that offered higher levels of anesthesia (I am a nervous gal at the dentist) she tried to shame me saying no one needs higher levels of anesthesia for a root canal, as if she knew better than I what I (the patient) needed. After realizing she could not convince me to return, she nonchalantly said "oh by the way, it appears you owe us money still, we made a mistake in your billing and you owe us about $500, you will receive a bill in the mail." I received it almost two years later. Honestly, at first, I refused to pay it, but it wasn't worth my time in the end, and I paid it to get these guys off my back once and for all (plus I didnt want this to affect my credit score). If that's not bad enough, I got my wisdom teeth pulled here, and they brought another dentist in that was able to provide laughing gas. I opted not to get bone grafts in because I did my research and didn't need bone grafts. (Plus, they were like $400 each.) Jackie tried very hard to sell me on these, but I refused. Well, while under laughing gas, Jackie tried to once again convince me to sign and agree to bone grafts!! Luckily, I had enough wits about me to deny once again, but that is so unethical! Not to mention illegal. My new dentist is Dr. Cho in Long Beach. Less expensive, amazing, long-lasting work, higher level of care. He is AMAZING.
