I have been going to Joe Escobar for over 25 years. I had a much smaller budget then and rarely frequent them, but over the years was able to purchase a small collection. I have also fixed a number of items that I have inherited and their work is really good. This place has exquisite jewelry for a fair price. The quality of the pieces and deign is very elegant and timeless no matter how much you spend . I have visited other jewelry stores for similar priced items and honestly the other store items are low quality all around, not unique and the craft is not there, and I have been to many throughout the entire Bay Area and beyond. There are the high end branded stores, but you are buying the brand more than the jewelry. I am more about collecting beautiful pieces of high quality with a unique flair- it's the value that it represents. Details even in extremely small ways matter a lot. The service here is impeccable no matter if I purchased, simply admired the pieces, or was only able to spend a few thousands. I was never judged and they stand behind all their pieces. I appreciate the craftsmanship and wide range of price points available. I always have so much fun visiting. They have their craft down. It's the owner/management issue. I've known the details of both the late Joe Escobar and David his son since 1981 when Joe was downtown. Not great to work with when choosing a diamond. Beautiful diamonds and fine gems though. They had a fabulous sales staff in the 80's there in Campbell. But lost several women sales lady's because they weren't comfortable there. My brother bought many things for his wife there. He always worked with Saundra with a Checoslavkian name. She was the best sales lady, also Marie Furia. So if they're still there ask for them. They make the experience fun. I have bought graduation gifts there. Just not the same. Young inexperienced people now. read more

I have been living in San Jose for over 30 years and have seen this store but never stopped by until today. I bought a necklace from somewhere but the necklace had a little issue for me. It was a very minor job. I didn't think they would take the job and fix it but I thought I would just try them. I was really surprised by the size of the store and selections of the jewelrys they had. Their staffs were really nice and very welcoming especially Eeva. Eeva listened to my concern and really tried to help me. Finally it took them only about two hours to fix my necklace. My husband and I ended up buying our wedding rings here, and I definitely don't recommend Joe Escobar's. We looked at a number of jewelers but ended up choosing this place because of a style of Christian Bauer ring we fell for. They were matching rose gold and palladium bands in alternating waves (see photo). We felt like it symbolized the intertwining our lives, not to mention we are an interracial couple. They were more expensive than the number of the bands at other jewelers that we were alternatively considering, but we decided it was worth the rings we loved. We also went there because we had read on one review that they were gay friendly. We paid for the rings but a couple of weeks later got a call from Escobar's, saying that they weren't going to be able to have the ring made with palladium after all, so they recommended using platinum instead. This was disappointing, but they assured us that the end result would be almost the same. We didn't particularly care what the metals were as long as the visual effect was the same. When we picked up our rings, we were immediately disappointed with how much they didn't resemble the original rings we tried on from the showcase. They assured us that it was simply because the rings were new, and that after a few months of wear, a "patina" would make the platinum stand out more. We were getting married in a few months, so we decided to trust them rather than scrambling to find an alternative in time for the wedding. We regret believing them, because that just turned out to be untrue. Fast forward to now. A year after our wedding and our rings never did have a visible wave like the rings we purchased. We recently went back to Escobar to have our rings polished and we were shocked and frustrated to see that they still had the original rose gold and palladium rings on display in the showcase. What the heck? Turns out that they're still selling them even though that ring is no longer an option. Aka, false advertising. How many more people were they going to disappoint and trick? Even if they had no way of knowing that the palladium was not going to be available for our particular rings, they should have at least updated the case with the offerings that are actually available for future ring buyers. Some other couple is going to come by and fall in love with the rings in the showcase just like we did only for them to be given the same excuses and false promises that they gave to us. I wouldn't recommend shopping with Escobar Diamonds in the first place, but if you were going to choose to do so, don't buy any of the Christian Bauer mixed metals rings. Additionally, when they call you to explain that they're going to have to make adjustments to your order, save yourself the time and frustration by cancelling your order. While we love our wedding rings because they are ours, they will always represent the disappointment and frustration we experienced at Joe Escobar's. read more

My goal - to create a bracelet from my wedding ring. This would be a present to me on my 10 year divorcery. Maia was very patient with me and explained some options that could be done. This place has 2 security doors where you have to be buzzed in to get in. I guess to prevent the smash and grab that some people do. we brought 2 gold rings in with the weight 9.069g. When I look online for current gold prices it states $69.45 per gram. So the rings should be 69.45x9.069= $629.84. But this place offered $225.... wow just wow. Almost a 3rd of what it should be. They say its just worth the weight for melting.... that doesn't make it worth less because you melt it. He said well its labor, we have to melt it down and do all of the work. This review is long overdue. I can't say enough good things about Erik Carlson and everyone else at JE. I began shopping for an engagement ring last July and had no idea where to start. I walked in without an appointment since I was in the area. I had just come from the gym so I wasn't exactly looking my best. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome I received right when I stepped in. Erik walked right up and asked how he could help. I told him I was in the market for an engagement ring and he made the rest of the process incredibly easy and spoon-fed. He went over the different styles, materials, bands, and stones. He took something that I initially thought was overwhelming and broke it down to make it simple and customer friendly. At the end I was indecisive between two styles, one particular style and a traditional engagement band. Erik was quick to step in and let me know the traditional engagement band could essentially be returned and upgraded to the other style after I proposed, if we chose to do so. The other style could not be returned, so it would be final if I were to choose it. My now fiancé ended up loving the band so it all worked out. I'd like to add that not only was Erik helpful with the product knowledge and subject matter, but he definitely helped talk me off the ledge as I was preparing to pop the question. I was incredibly nervous and unsure of how to make the presentation, and he gave great advice. Between helping with the actual purchase of the ring and incredibly good tips on the actual popping of the question, I would highly recommend Erik and everyone else at JE to anyone in the market for an engagement ring. We got in-depth knowledge on both diamonds and specific types of sapphires we were looking into, and eventually decided on a very custom ring with an old-euro cut diamond. They sourced several diamonds in our budget and cut for us to look at in person, and worked closely with us to execute on our very intricate custom design. We chose a method that allowed my girlfriend-at-the time to have a wax model made, tried on, and have any specifics tweaked or adjusted before the final casting. I recently bought a AGS certified ACA hearts & arrow super ideal from online company (WhiteFlash). I had it appraised by an independent gemologist & she appraised the color as "J", it didn't match the AGS certificate. When I asked her if the Heart & Arrow cut was worth the extra$$ her opinion was "No it was more of a marketing gimmick." After looking at tons of diamonds in the high-end jewelry stores (C&H,Tiffany's,LA Diamond Broker etc) and comparing my Whiteflash AGS H&A to their top-of-line PriceScope worthy specs (Ideal Cuts/GIA XXX)I didn't see a difference!If you read Pricescope.com these ACA Hearts & Arrows are supposedly the premium cut diamonds.The pricing at these premium stores were pretty comparable(except Tiffanys of course lol). I did let the sales reps know I was shopping around on-line so perhaps that's why their pricing was competitive with buying on-line. Based on that, & the appraiser said my diamond was over-priced since it was a J color, I decided to send back the "J" colored AGS/ ACA to WhiteFlash. Whiteflash put another H&A diamond on hold for me , this time bumping up the color to H, and increasing the carat size too. (The appraiser said AGS isn't stringent with color grades &suggested going with a GIA certified diamond) Most of my friends & family bought from Joe Escobar's and HIGHLY recommended them. We also purchased my husband's band here 20 years ago. I went down to the store & met with the owner, Mark. He spent a great deal of time with me comparing diamonds & looking the diamonds in all types of lighting-filtered sun, dark corners of the store, bright sunlight etc. I decided to buy a beautiful 60/60 diamond from Joe Escobar's and a diamond platinum shared prong setting for it. I'm thrilled with my ring and have received a lot of compliments. I was surprised how competitively priced they are compared to the popular online diamond companies - WhiteFlash, Blue Nile etc. Also FYI,there is now California sales tax on all online purchases so buying online isn't a bargain anymore. read more

It's a family operated business that is THE local jeweler for the area. It is second to none in terms of quality - both the stones that they use and the artistry of the final product. They have jewelry that fits most budgets - ranging from the low thousands to the low hundreds of thousands - and are always eager to custom make anything you can dream of. I've purchased from them an engagement ring, two push presents, had a custom staff bejeweled with rubies and sapphires, and a number of other items over the years. Every single person we've interacted with makes you feel right at home.
