No discrimination here. Two, she does not ban books and continues to support during banned book week, which for 2025 happens to be Oct. 5-11. RESIST! During discussion with another customer, Taylor mentioned the shop hosting two different book clubs, and one is currently reading 1984. Coincidence, much? Methinks not. Three, she hires homeless youth, and is the only bookbinder in Alaska. I bought a cute hand made book bag for $10, and is perfect for my knitting projects, shopping, or whatever. Note that the entire store is hair-free due to the owner's mother's allergy (her mom, Denise, dyes the majority of the hand-dyed yarn), so no yarns that include hair fiber.

She's very knowledgeable about quilting and sewing in general. The staff there is great as well. They will spend as long as it takes to find the one perfect fabric you are missing from your project. I mean AS LONG as you need them to. The other day I had found 7 of 8 fabrics I needed for a project and just couldn't come up with that perfect last one. After 20 minutes or more we found it! I say we, like I had some hand in it. It was really the 2 other ladies that were scouring the store to please me. They ROCK! :) The store is well lit with room to move around. The fabrics are grouped by type (batik, flannel, cotton, Asian,) and then by color. They have a nice selection of rulers, cutters, threads, quilting patterns, fat quarters, do-dads, and general sewing-type notions. There are sample quilts & projects hanging EVERYWHERE to inspire you. Gift cards are available! In the back of the store there are large tables for classes. Samples of all the class projects are hanging to you can get an up-close look at what you're going to make. Stop by Sylvia's, you'll love it. Even if you're only going in to pet the fabric. :)

Well, I have found it to be terribly difficult, until 2 years ago, a friend mine introduced me to this place. And man! I tell ya! I was hooked! 100% family friendly. I would never be embarrassed to have someone spot me there. Noelle is amazing, and to be honest, she hires WELL! When you are there, talk to everyone there, the ideas you get from conversation are surprising. The finished product will amaze you and most certainly encourage you to return and challenge yourself.
