In no world should there only be two employees working the register on the Friday after Christmas. I really love the setup of the store, and I have been a consistent customer at the store for months since I moved to Des Moines. Today when I went to the store I came in for some yarn to finish off a blanket. Their yarn section looked like it had been torn apart. Boxes on the ground, unorganized yarn, etc. When I finally found my yarn, I took it to the checkout where I waited for 20 minutes (not to mention my two skeins were $20!!!). Finished shopping and I'm not sure I will be returning with the lack of customer service. read more

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS JOANN FABRICS STORE? I went to the store in September - organized - very friendly staff - efficient and in and out quickly! Went yesterday and it was night & day!?! It looks like a Dollar General Store. Are they going out of business? Fabric bolts thrown about hap-hazzardly. PILES of "go back" bolts piled high. A WALL of carton boxes FILLED with fabric that has not been shelved yet... I could barely get my shopping cart up and down the isles. And it wasn't just me - fellow shoppers were wondering around the store - one said out loud "did a bomb go off in here"? Another said, "A bomb would HELP this..." The cut table guy was VERY nice. Fast and efficient. The check out guy? The rudest store employee I have ever met!!! Snapped at the customer before me when the older lady explained she didn't have a "smart phone" and asked if he had a coupon. You would have thought she called him a slur! He screamed at the poor woman. Very tall - very intimidating - very VERY rude. Her purchase was over $150. Mine was around $100 The store made $250 from just the two of us and there were at least a dozen other customers in the building. The place IS making money! Seems like a REAL lack of management. And - that front counter guy needs a LOT of retraining AND to be thrown head-first into an anger management session or two. Rude employee Cady. The store did not have what I wanted and the clerk Cady was more than rude, hostile. The manager witnessed her behavior. You said to me "whatever". Well whatever Cady, Hobby Lobby had what I wanted, and no hostility. WOW! $$$$$ read more

I was so very excited by the new location of JoAnn's! It is so spacious and well organized. Frankly is amazing. They have a wonderful work and class area that they allow you to use as well as some wonderful state of the art equipment. read more

I don't have a ton of sewing needs, but because of being a Scout leader I find myself in this JoAnns more and more these days. The staff is always pleasant...and that's good...it can be a little overwhelming for a single dad non-sewing type (more or less) like me. Things would probably be easier for me to find if I was in there more than once every few months. Be aware they do offer a veterans discount of 10% if you are eligible... I know right? Jo-Ann Fabrics is a pretty legit Craft store full of very helpful staff members! I know nothing about sewing, but Ashley digs it and she loves Jo-Ann's they have helped her fix her sewing machine and helped her with the perfect patterns for various projects she has done! Jo-Ann's has tons of Fabrics (doh it's in the name) but they also have tons of seasonal things like Halloween items and stuff to make your projects come to life! The store is super clean, and was pretty packed on a Sunday afternoon! read more

I went to Jo-Ann at 1:30pm on Sunday to get 1/2 yard of one fabric for a project. When I got to the cutting table to take a number, I realized there were 25 numbers before the next number in the ticket dispenser, so I left. I returned at 4:00pm to try again. I waited for an hour for my number to be called at the cutting table. Then when I tried to find the end of the line for the cash register, I followed the line back to the back wall of the store. I waited in that line for 45 minutes before I had to abandon my piece of fabric and leave the store because I had to pick up my daughter at 6:00pm. BTW, I only moved up about 1/2 way in the cash register line in 45 minutes. If there was another fabric store in the area, there is no way this place would stay in business. read more

I shop here only for yarn. As others have said-- this is the most disorganized part of the store. Cartons of filled inventory sitting around for someone to shelve them. Meanwhile shelves sit empty. I showed my phone with store coupon for 20% off. They wouldn't let me use it-- ' you have to download the app.' Screw that. I don't want to have an app for every store I shop at. There is never anyone in this store so hopefully they go out of business in this deserted strip mall. No one will miss them. read more

This is the busiest JoAnns I've ever been to! Always a line, even on a normal day. Christmas time is the busiest but they have deals to make up for it. Clean store, helpful atmosphere. read more

There were tons of big boxes and industrial like carts blocking every yarn aisle. There was no staff putting yarn on shelves or nearby that appeared to be working in that area. If they moved all of the boxes there with the intent to stock the shelves then they should have had somebody actually doing it. It was nearly impossible to get to a lot of yarn. As always, it seemed like they were short staffed. I doubt I will return any time soon. Even with a 60% off one regularly priced item it was not worth the hassle. I left and went to Michaels. The aisles there were clutter free and there was a clerk at every cash register. So much more pleasant. read more

Customer service sucks - I placed an online order under my husband's name and when he wasn't able to pick it up, I called and asked if they could add a pick up person. She said okay, no problem and took my name. I get there and the checkout lady is unbelievably snarky about how I don't know what name it's under and all of this. It's not the customer's fault communication is lacking in your store, get over yourself. Half of their yarn selection is empty or strewn all over the place. The only reason they get my business is because they carry yarn I can't find in other stores but I'm considering taking my business online if their customer service is this freaking bad. read more

This review is for JoAnn mail orders, not this particular store. I bought a Janome sewing machine online from JoAnn in November of last year because it wasn't carried in the store. Two times since then, I have had to have warranty work done on it. The last time, the person in the sewing machine repair shop suggested that I had a lemon and should return it. Joann currently isn't taking phone calls, so this to date has been handled by email. The machine was returned and received on 22 June. I still don't have a refund and am getting nothing but the run around from JoAnn personnel. My next step will be to file a report with the Better Business Bureau. read more

There is a lot of fabric choices but the coupons are made to not apply to anything marked down and they mark EVERYTHING down. Cashiers are not well trained and always have to call managers for things like basic gift cards. Never more than two clerks even at busy times. There is a couple of female managers who are very condescending and rude and wrong about store policies and coupons as well. Ive received some great and some beyond awful service here. But since there isnt another fabric store with such a selection, it stays in business for better or worse. Lots of overpriced goods as well, so do your research before purchasing. read more
