Absolutely amazing service center for all makes and models of vehicles. This is a privately owned shop you can trust. I was having electrical issues with my Honda. The dealer wanted $250.00 to (try) and locate the issue only. Then there would be additional an additional charge to repair. I called JO CO Auto and talked with Ernie. He was able to get me in the next day. A couple hours after dropping my vehicle off Ernie called me and explained what was going on. A critter had got into the wiring under the vehicle and chewed up some wire. Ernie suggested repairing the damage over replacing the entire wiring harness which would have cost over 1K. Give them a try. You will not be disappointed I promise. read more

I recently had the Jo Co Auto team assess an unusual noise in my SL63AMG to get a second opinion. The local M/B dealership had speculated that the timing belt tensioner was bad; estimated repair costs over $2k. The Jo Co team had the car for about 30 minutes, pulled a M/B service bulletin based on the symptoms, and concluded that a component of the active body control was bad. They were right, still an expensive repair, but the correct fix..... and they have a new customer! read more

Ok, so down to two stars is reason for an update. Although I see I am the only person who has reviewed this place, JOCO auto's utter disregard for me at my last visit is cause for me to never return. I called in the morning to ask if they could do an oil change and they said that they could get me in right away. I showed up and couldn't find a place to park because their lot was full. I walk in to the front desk where I see the lady and a man behind the counter eating their hamburger lunch that's strewn all over the counter. I stood there for a moment while the woman stared at me and said nothing. I had to break the awkward silence and ask if someone could help me. She was clearly annoyed that I interrupted her lunch. So I explained that I wanted someone to change my oil, replace my wiper blades, and look at doing some other work as well. After I explained everything, she said she would have someone look at it. Ok, so I just wasted all that time telling you all that for you to push me off onto someone else? What a joke. So I went outside to wait for someone to come help me! I probably stood out there for close to 15 minutes with no offer of anything. No attempt to offer me a time frame and no attempt to be business like or professional in any manner. I got tired of waiting and left. This place supposedly prides themselves on their customer service, but it was nonexistent on this last visit. If you are going to eat lunch, please go to your break room or in the back. It is a disgusting sight to see you eating your lunch on the counter in the front. Have some courtesy and some professionalism if you want business. But most of all, PROVIDE customer service to your customers. I won't be back. read more

I had never had my car serviced here, only my brother and he said they were excellent. Granted, I also really don't like going to Jiffy Lube so I decided to try them and it's true, they're fantastic. It's so clean and the employees are very nice! They didn't even charge for an inspection when they didn't find anything of a problem. Last year Johnson County Automotive did the 90k mile work on our family van. Everything went fine. Last month the air conditioning wasn't working, so we took it in. They told us that during the 90k work they made a mistake that wore a hole in the AC. Here's the deal. There is no way I would have known that. They could have charged me $600 for the repair. Not only did they not charge me, they changed the oil too. People with character like that are good to have around you. Know that you can trust this shop. So, I had a groupon for an oil change to joco auto and we tried them out. Then our car needed work and we brought it there and they fixed it. It was a major repair (1200.00) but they did a good job. So we brought it back for an oil change and tire rotation and they didn't put one of the hubcaps on very well and it fell off! So we went back and said "hey, what's up with the no hubcap?"...and the guy admitted that it came off hard, something broke so he put it back loosely and he didn't tell us? So the hubcap fell off! Really...? We found the hubcap in the street and they put it back on...so I would say that your vehicle will be good if you have the right person working on it. The lady at the front desk isn't exactly the friendliest person in customer service?! So, joco auto has some good commercials on tv they just need to really pay attention to customer service in real life if they're going to tout customer service on their commercials. I'm new to Kansas City and since I'm new that means that I have to start looking for all new places to go for various things. And, unfortunately, that includes finding an auto mechanic (my least favorite thing to do). So like most millennials, I start to do some shopping and researching reviews. Hands down this place has the best reviews from Angie's List to Google reviews so I decided to give it a go. They seem like really nice people too, but unfortunately, nice doesn't pay the bills. I had been having issues with my car and took it in to get looked at. I paid the $100 fee to do a service test, but unfortunately they couldn't find the problem. I left that day with the intention I'd be back soon and sure enough I was. My engine light came on so I went back. It was reported an O2 sensor was out ($400 repair for part and labor), but also my exhaust manifold was cracked. Since the O2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter, they said it's best to do it at the same time ($1500 repair cost now for both). Well I did some researching because that was a whole lot of money, I decided to repair it myself. I ended up purchasing the exhaust manifold / catalytic converter part online new (OEM exact fit for $250. The OEM one was $550) and the O2 sensor was $98 for total of around $350. I just put the replacement on this past weekend and was shocked to find nothing wrong with the exhaust manifold. Nothing. Nada. No cracks or anything. I'm not sure why that was stated. I would assume it was just easy money to say it was cracked as they would have to pull it out anyways (to get to the downstream O2 sensor), but it was my Upstream O2 sensor that was bad (which does not need to remove exhaust manifold / catalytic converter). The upstream O2 sensor is literally in plain view after opening the hood. A simple 3 min task to unscrew/unplug then screw in and plug....and they wanted $400 for this repair! I'm shocked. Again, if I didn't know any better my bottom would be sore since they were so nice about things. Unfortunately, I did get the vibe they seemed to be trying to push anything they could (and as nicely as possible as not to come off rude). On my various trips up there, they would bring up maintenance plans for the car (which I completely get and needs to be done), but they did it every time which I had to correct them and let them know it's been done. Can you not look in my file and see it's been done? Update it if it's missing? Please stop trying to sell me on things I don't need. All in all this review is to say be careful and make sure the work you need done is truly the work that needs to be done. If it's an expensive quote or job, I would get a second opinion. read more

I own several vehicles, and being raised in an automotive oriented home, am able do most of my repairs & maintenance myself. One thing that I won't touch is carburetors. on my older models. So when my 80's vintage dog hauling vehicle, started idling rough, and hard to start, knew that it was out of my comfort level. I purposely searched for a local repair shop, that touted that they were experienced in carburetor related repairs. That is where Johnson County Auto came into play. Their website states that they specialize in carb adjustment and repair. Long story short...they kept the car all day, and finally got the phone call about 3pm stating that the carburetor had a fractured bowl and would need to be replaced, Not rebult...replaced.....estimated cost was over $1500.oo. This car gets about 2000 miles a year put on it and does not get hot rodded. I've never known a carb to fracture in the bowl under normal driving. I would not let them continue, but still paid over a hundred dollars to get the car back. After some consulting with mechanics I trust in my home town, I learn that the carburetor is not broken, but that the particular kind of carb on this car has a known history of a seam inside the carb itself , separating and allowing fuel to seep into the motor, as well as the fuel being pumped in under normal conditions. Causing it to idle rough and difficult starting....(ALAS, the same symptoms that started this story) Known fix, is a resin kit to re seat the seam.(or as the hometown boys suggested JB Weld would be just fine. Cost range from $5 - 35...Much better that 1500 isn't it. I know what you are thinking. Sounds like a Band Aid fix & it will not last. For a car that doesn't get driven very much,who's sole purpose is the transportation needs of a German Shepherd...it will do just fine. They'll make recommendations without being pushy about anything. For the most part, they've even told me what they'd do and what they'd wait to repair depending upon my budget. We were quoted $1100 to replace rear brake pads, rotors, and calipers on one wheel. From Auto Zone, gold level brake pads are $70, rotors are $106 for 2 gold level, and $76 for calipers. That's $240 for parts on BOTH sides. What gives? read more
