Serenity Health & Wellness Center - Notes to my masseuse from another employee during my massage

Wife went in and was treated like second class citizen shuffled between waiting areas she got…read moreeyelashes done and a massage, they got chemicals in her eye and when she told them it burned and hurt they were unconcerned and offered her a tissue, we went to emergency room she had her eyes flushed and had to get antibiotic eye drops for her damaged cornea, the massage they gave her was not what she booked and was rushed don't bother booking

I booked a couple's massage as a gift for my husband with the intent for both of us to start out…read morerelaxed for a date night. I gave some stars as he had an excellent massage and that was the top priority for me. I did not know the therapists we booked with ahead of time, so had no expectation of the type of message we would receive. His therapist asked us both if we had an area to focus on and we both voiced that our shoulders could use some extra attention. He received this extra attention, so relieved he was heard. My massage was more like a gentle skin rub and very repetitive. There was no focus on a specific muscle. I would not give a poor review based on this as maybe that was her style. My only other critique during the message would have been that she did not communicate much. When directed to turn over onto my stomach the only direction I received was "I am going to lift this thing". I thought this was odd (if it was my first message that would have been confusing and uncomfortable), but I instinctively knew what she meant. Just odd. I thought maybe she was new. We were ready to leave and felt good about the experience for my husband and had no opinion of my own message experience. This is when my opinion changed. As I was walking out of the restroom, I saw the therapist that had just finished my message visibly upset with her hand over her face. Another therapist was rubbing her back and she said " I am just feeling so sick". This is when I became very uncomfortable and left. It was the only time I have ever left a message less relaxed than when I arrived! Needless to say, not the relaxing start to our date night. I couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling. I called the manager. He said he would speak to her. I have to give credit in that he at least called back and left a voicemail. He did confirm that she was unwell but pulled herself together to take another client. He assured me not to worry that she showed no sign of fever or knowledge of contagious illness to worry about. I would have more respect if this was handled professionally. I feel she should have communicated this prior to the message and left me the decision to opt out or for her to say she was not feeling able to give a suitable message based on how she felt. Instead, she just put me in a position of her going through the motions and after hearing how she felt, I in turn felt bad for her working through that honestly. I should not have been placed in that position. It was very unprofessional for a client to witness. Based on this experience, I don't have trust to return. It's one thing for a message to fall short of a desired expectation, but another to feel like a burden and to be given a poor follow up on an uncomfortable situation that would have been more relaxing if it never happened. Update: I appreciate the response from Dietra, Serenity Owner, acknowledging that my experience was not suitable, as it was not. In fact, the manager's voicemail response indicated that the therapist was lightheaded and nauseous during. Again, I stand by that a professional approach with client experience in mind would have been to communicate that she was unwell, regardless of what, and a poor experience for all avoided.
