I am from a larger city, and accustomed to chain Mexican restaurants. This is a small "mom and pop"…read more(literally) family restaurant. The front of the building is a little tienda that sells imported goods from Mexico. The restaurant is in the back portion of the building. It didn't look impressive, and I wasn't sure what it might be like based on the appearance. Service was quick. The menu was hand-written, which though quaint was also refreshing. I never see hand-written menus anymore. I ordered the chicken quesadilla meal. First an appetizer of tortilla chips was brought out along with some salsa. Though I am ordinarily not much of a fan of salsa, I found their salsa very pleasant and the chips were great. The chips were thick and substantial. I'm not sure if they are made here or bought from a supplier, but they were delicious. The main course, the chicken quesadilla, was served with rice and beans. I often find the rice and beans at Mexican restaurants to be too salty, but these were perfect. The best part of the meal was the quesadilla itself. I don't know what the chicken was marinated in, but it had a faint sweetness to it that really tasted very good. Not being from around here, I don't know if I will visit this city again. If I do, I will return to La Rosita.

Ver Hoef is still on the building, but the business is no longer what it was…read more My family has had a long relationship with this dealership. After my parents took a wash on a van and finally solid, they were left the family carless. My father got a ride to this dealership, said "I just need dependable transportation" The 1985 car he bought that day lasted 10 years and 120k miles. Since then, my family has relied on Ver Hoef to supply 5 other dependable used cars as we have all started our own families. The price wasn't always the most competitive, but everything that came off the lot was reliable. But the man who put the name Ver Hoef on the building sold out in January 2011. Since then, both my sister and I went there to get a good car. My sister bought a van to drive her two toddlers around. Only to stop at another dealership in Sioux Falls because of a wobble and find metal reinforcement coming out of the inner tires a week later. And two other issues there were suppose to be fixed were not but discovered a very hundred miles past the warranty. I went in looking for a good 4 door car. I looked up on the website and emailed a sales guy. He responded and we went to look at it. The salesman didn't know anything about the car. He didn't know what engine, what tranny, who owned it, and wouldn't supply the carfax stating, "Its a joke anyway, it doesn't really say anything". If it were any other dealership I would have left after that. But we decided to test drive it anyway. We found that the brakes were bad, the windshield was cracked and when I had another mechanic look things over, it needed about 3 other things fixed. The old Ver Hoef would not put a car in that condition on the lot let alone try to sell it as 'a nice clean car that was never driven hard.' To top it all off, the refused to fix the problems. They said we could pick 2 of the 3 problems (not acknowledging the other 2). I walked off and will not return. Nor will anyone from my extended family. I just hope someone not as careful is going to end up with a lemon that had a name you once could trust. The man behind Ver Hoef is no longer there.

I can buy any sausage from my Asian supermarket but I like Formosa brand than all the others. The reason I buy from them is the sausage always FRESH make at Iowa facility, not like others were imported from Asia (far away/longer travel time to get to my local market) which was also very salty/dry and with preservative. Formosa's sausage is always moist/lightly salted, so I don't have to worry about sodium too much. BBQ Sausage - 台南式香腸 - is the one I always ordered which has a little bit sweet touch of it, very good and easy to put on the stick and grill with a garlic piece as an appetizer/snack when you have party. I also use BBQ Sausage to make stir fried brown rice (香腸糙米炒飯) and turnip cake (蘿蔔糕) when I have party or potluck get together and people like it.
