She loves it and we look forward to her first recital a few months from now!!! She tends to catch herself and correct her posture now and puts her hands on her hips and walks upright from time to time. It's adorable and very heartening to witness from this beautiful amazing little human!!! Again, this is a very old school dance academy; think checks dropped in boxes on the desk to pay the dues/fees. I'm pretty sure they haven't updated their location since the 80s... and I'm totally okay with that!!! Great place for your young son or daughter to learn the basics of proper dance!!! There is a young boy in my daughter dance class; dancing isn't just for girls y'all!!! One note... you don't actually get to watch the lessons. They go in back and learn and you see them 45 minutes later with a smile on all of their faces.

I was impressed with their many award-winning students, and their teachers who were 100% committed and invested into the school. My girls were 5&3 when they joined and hardly missed a week. This school is all about quality, integrity and is absolutely authentic in its practice and teaching. The teachers for the young students are excellent-- as they also teach the advanced students. That says a lot of what they want to instill in the beginning technique. It is a family run school, but from what I saw, the teachers all belong to Helena's family, as well. There are moms who once attended Helena Hosch when they were young-- that also speaks volumes. This organization is not about collecting money. Each child is treated with special attention-- and are taught about discipline and confidence, artistry and responsibility. I wish we didn't have to move away, but military duty calls. Our family is so grateful for our time at Helena Hosch.

They don't have dance picture spots for all kids who attend class. Clearly not a place to learn ballet or tap. Even at the show the older kids ballet and tap was sub-par at best. I took dance for 18 years and this was the worse experience. I would have pulled my daughter sooner if parents had been allowed to watch the classes at all. the only good thing I will say, is at the performance the clearly should only specialize in hip hop and jazz which is obviously their interest and strength.

A young lady answered ALL of my questions. Believe me, I had lots of questions. Hubby and I decided to put the little one in Parent and Me Ballet. Although it says Parent and Me, it is geared to help the tots learn the foundation of ballet. Miss Mollie, her dance instructor, is a sweetheart! There are anywhere from 3-5 girls, and she is keeps them moving. She has so much patience, and her energy and smile makes any little one comfortable. My daughter loves coming here especially since Mommy and Daddy get to participate (a little).

Last night's Black Jacket Symphony performance of Led Zeppelin's music was no exception on the performance side--just incredible. But oh, let's talk about the atmosphere. When I stepped into the auditorium, I wasn't met with the warm embrace of a perfectly tuned heating system. No, I was smacked in the face by a wall of heat so intense I briefly considered whether Led Zeppelin might've been covering Hot for Teacher. Thankfully, someone on staff noticed that the audience wasn't exactly giving a standing ovation to the HVAC situation and turned the heat off. But then came the second act of discomfort: stagnant air. The kind of air that just sits there, like a guest at a dinner party who refuses to leave. No fans, no circulation--just a thick, unmoving mass of stuffiness that somehow felt more oppressive than the heat itself. And here's the thing: when you're in a packed room where the average age skews over 60, and you add in the not-so-subtle aroma of decades of cigarette smoking clinging to clothing? Let's just say it wasn't a breath of fresh air. The show itself was phenomenal--so good that I stayed despite feeling like I was trying to breathe through a wet blanket. But honestly, Jefferson Performing Arts Center, you've got to do better. Temperature control and air circulation aren't just "nice-to-haves"; they're the baseline for a venue of this caliber.
