Heather was fun and super knowledgeable and has such a great attitude. She makes everyone feel so comfortable, like we're all old friends. I blew right through all my childhood sewing machine issues and am proud to say I am now fairly adept at threading the bobbin and machine, a task that reduced me to hysterical tears when I was 12 when I promised the lady I babysat for to sew a bunch of padded frames for her business; she gave me her sewing machine but there were no instructions and no Internet. I slowly devolved into an angst-based shame spiral that consumed my every waking thought before tearfully admitting defeat months later. This was seriously the most fun I have had in a long time. Everything about it--the cheerful open space, Heather's teaching style (awesome), the fun little project to get our feet wet--was perfect. It's taking everything in me not to call in sick tomorrow and stay home and sew! Take these classes! You'll love them.

I was henceforth banned from touching the machine, and my impressionable little self took that to heart. I do not use sewing machines because I still believe--20 years later--in my deadly touch. For Christmas in 2014, I asked for a sewing lesson with Heather. We'd met at a street festival when she was manning a booth with her beautiful hand-sewn products, and she told me all about her classes. The prices are reasonable for a group class, and I thought this would be a good start to move from being banned from touching a sewing machine to actually using one. A family member gave me a gift certificate for Sew Fabulous, and off we went! I called ahead and told Heather about the sewing machine I'd be bringing to class. She asked a few questions about the model and assured me that she could teach me to use that one. The class was fun, but I personally had some issues. Despite assuring me that she could teach me to use the machine I brought, Heather actually couldn't. She had no idea how to make basic things go on this machine. If she'd told me that she had no idea, I would have done the class on one of her demo machines instead of hauling a sewing machine across town. Instead, I spent most of the class trying to trouble-shoot things myself and just being frustrated. I don't feel like I learned a lot from this class because of the struggles with the machine. Were I to do it again, I'd use one of her demo machines until I felt like I had the skills to make things go on any machine. But I would take more classes with Heather, if that says anything. (The machine I brought is a particular type of Pfaff that's modern but intended to be very manual. It's not one of the heavily computerized models that most sewers favor these days. This one is adjustable to the max, but adjustments require knowledge of the proper settings for each knob. In other words, it's a very particular machine. But as I type this, I am sitting in a room with both the sewing machine and multiple items that were sewn on that machine including some lovely curtains and a duvet cover. So. It does work.) Accessibility notes: several steps up into shop. No lift or ramp. No Braille signage.

Although it says Parent and Me, it is geared to help the tots learn the foundation of ballet. Miss Mollie, her dance instructor, is a sweetheart! There are anywhere from 3-5 girls, and she is keeps them moving. She has so much patience, and her energy and smile makes any little one comfortable. My daughter loves coming here especially since Mommy and Daddy get to participate (a little).

But to my surprise, it was something every different and exciting ! This place is a DIY craft studio where you used distressed wood to create your own masterpiece! You can choose from different shapes of precut wood which you distress yourself , prime and paint with colors of your choosing , and a stencil of an inspirational message! My daughter was a student at this school for her 3rd and 4th grade year(2021-2023)…read moreI was originally impressed with the school's pedagogy and their promise to "nurture the whole child". What proceeded was 2 years of mental abuse that resulted in physical abuse by her grade teacher(The current 5th grade teacher). The administration then proceeded to gaslight my child and myself. I was told we would need to sign documentation stating that her teacher was never physically abusive towards her if I wanted my child to return to the school. The physical abuse was seen by 4 of her classmates but the administration still decided to not address the abuse. Some of the other teachers are wonderful educators but the administration is lacking and the school environment fosters abuse.
