I was a customer for years with Jin Soon. Always had good experiences when i lived in the city. Recently I went back to visit. When it came time to check out I realized I didn't have enough money to tip and because the woman was running late she wasn't able to complete my manicure anyways. I felt bad still about being so poor I couldn't tip, and the woman was not happy. I went to make another appt hoping this time I could make up for it when I get a text telling me some untrue things because of past aggressive behavior I couldn't return as a client. I called the manager to ask about these incidents, he couldn't name any and it didn't make sense. I knew this was because I couldn't tip which is unfortunately happening more and more since we live in a tip shaming culture. It make me feel so shameful. I can't believe they would treat me like this after how much business I brought them. It was really gross and distasteful. I wouldn't recommend this place unfortunately because you will only be treated well if you can tip. If not expect to be shamed and told untrue things. Such a shame since i was a client for years. Worst $90 ever spent! From my pictures (taken immediately after), you can clearly tell how terribly they applied the top coat! I complained at the end but the manicurist looked at my nails and said there was nothing wrong with the top coat not being even. "This is how we do it" Horrible customer service. Came here for a pedicure last night at 5:00pm after reading about Jinsoon in a beauty publication. Pros: Although the space is very small it is very clean. My pedicurist was very kind and took her time on my toes. They went from tragic to pretty in my 45 minutes there. The pedicure is $35 which is really a great price but I will say it is not a slow and pampering experience but very straightforward cut, file, lotion, polish type place but I did enjoy that. Cons: I did have to wait 20+ minutes for my scheduled appointment time and I got there 10 minutes early so just beware this could happen and leave some time! Also since Covid I am very aware of my space and because the space is so small and there are no barriers you really feel the presence of the person next to you. Juts for reference we could not both put our purses next to each other it was that close. I will be returning however and don't think its a bad place to checkout! read more

I went yesterday with my mom as a treat for us, and it was a very good experience. We had the Balm of purity pedicure with Jamuna and the flower petal float pedicure with Sunny. The nail techs were very professional in everything that they did. The place is very clean overall, and it's very quiet, with very low music playing in the background. The only thing that was strange to me is they don't take discover cards as a payment method, so bring a back up payment method if this applies to you. Treated my mother to a pedicure here while I had a manicure. Very gentle manicure but a week out, the gel polish is already chipping. The chairs for the pedicures were uncomfortable. Very small cramped space so it wasn't that relaxing as I had originally hoped. read more

This was such a disappointing experience . I had planned this pedicure treat for my sister and I a month in advance as a treat for our birthdays. The service was very rushed, there was nothing special about it, barely a foot massage with treatment (rubbing feet for a minute) and it was super pricey. They squeezed me in last minute, which I appreciated. Sunny accommodated when I didn't clearly communicate which pedicure I wanted and promptly changed out the water, she also cooled down the temp for me when I said it was too hot. She was pleasant throughout even though I was a few minutes late (darn weekend trains) and she had an appointment right after me. She did a great job on exfoliating my cracking dry heels and was more perfectionistic than me about my nails but did not cut any cuticles when I asked her not to. Not your average nail salon, that's for sure. And yes, it's more pricey than any other, but their basic mani/pedi services are only a few bucks more and well worth it. I'll tell you why.. Their nail color selection is superior. With brands like Chanel, Nars, Michael Kors, YSL, Essie, OPI and their own line to name a few. All of the staff are very professional and well trained. They have a vast selection of services for both mani/pedis (milk and honey is by far my favorite). The atmosphere is so relaxing and the tea they offer you is great. I highly recommend the citrus. The actual paint job they do is perfect and meticulous and last far longer than any of my other manicures have. I usually abstain from writing terrible review but I think it is important to point out that the following nail salon is nothing like the one in Tribeca. This is a run down, imposter version with the most aggressive and reckless staff members. Visited this location for a last minute pedicure at the start of the year and all I can say is that the 'nail specialist' was rather uninformed and untrained on all aspects on nail and cuticle care. I am not sure if she just didn't possess the most basic skills or if she was plain old rude and unaccommodating. When I asked for another technician she started bad mouthing me in Nepali. Unbeknownst to her, I too am South Asian and perfectly understood what she was saying. The utter disrespect and negligence was rather shocking. The technician's colleague did step in to rectify the situation but to make matter worse, the new technician was rather aggressive for a cash tip. She hovered over me asking more than once to leave a larger tip to make up the money lost on her end in taxes. The expectation for a large gratuity after all of this is what really takes the cake. Expensive but worth the treat! I've been here 2 times now and feel it's better than the neighborhood chop shops especially after seeing Dr. Oz! The 1st trip was New Year's Eve and I had a wonderful experience. My 2nd time in was yesterday and I was in much need of some hand pampering...so I went w/the paraffin manicure and regular pedicure. Let me start by saying these are above-average manicures, which kept bringing me back to this place. However, today's experience, in terms of customer service, took the cake. Just like some of the other customers, you feel like you are given a favor by having your money taken and allowed to come in. I had a gift certificate and wanted to cover the rest of the amount with a CC; however, I was told in a rude way, that gratuity is not accepted on CC (although being told otherwise, prior). Eventually, I had to go out in the rain, after haggling for a few minutes, to the nearest ATM, for the cash gratuity. Ah, yes, and the minimum charge for CC is $18 (?). I fell in love with Jin Soon a year ago. But now it is time to break up. Initially, I was attracted by the cleanliness. They do not use tools like nail files on multiple customers without cleaning/sterilization (like many cheaper salons do) and do not have the whirlpool footbaths. I kept coming back for the quality of the work. They do great cuticle care and very long-lasting polish (5 days on my hands and I have not actually had nail polish chip or rub off between pedicures). Nail shaping (especially on hands) is more variable, with some technicians doing a wonderful job and others not being as comfortable with the natural shape that I like to have. Foot care is also variable. Initially, it was pretty good but for my last 2 pedicures, the foot scrubbing and even basic foot cuticle care was significantly worse than before. The thing that I have been overlooking initially is the unfriendliness of the staff. After coming for several months, the ladies who have previously provided services to me started to recognize me and they were nicer (I am a generous tipper). But everyone else treats you like they are doing you a favor by tolerating you in the place. When trying to make an appointment, you basically have to fight to get anything within 2 hours of closing, even a week in advance, even just a manicure (and not because the salon is full). I have never been late or missed an appointment (although have been forced to wait up to 1/2 hour on several occasions) but still intermittently they would demand a credit card number to hold even basic mani/pedi appointments. On arrival, you are ignored. Then, after you are done drying your nails, you have to hunt someone down to pay and do any final touches. With the deteriorating pedicure quality, for me the balance of the cleanliness/quality vs. unfriendliness/price has finally shifted towards trying to find a new nail place. So the b/f got me a gift certificate for the Breath Milk & Honey mani & pedi. It was a nice experience, I came out with an *immaculate* manicure & pedicure. And although I cannot justify paying $30 for a manicure & $50 for a pedicure on a consistent basis, I do see myself going here on a 'you-deserve-to-give-yourslf-a-nice-treat' trip. The milk & honey soak could have been a bit hotter, but that's just my preference. And for the money that was paid for said services, I feel more time could have been dedicated to each experience. For both mani & pedi (done at seperate times), there was a total time of one hour dedicated. Apparently, this location is the newest addition to the Jin Soon nail salon chain. The decor is bamboo minimalist, I liked it. However, it is a small space, so for those that have a bit of claustrophobia- this place may not be for you. Overall, my experience with Jin Soon was pretty great. We got off to a rocky start bc the girl who was helping me seemed impatient saying shit like "Okay, I'm ready now!" But she did offer me tea which was SO good - get the Citron tea! You will love it and you can purchase it for $13 right there. I elected to get the Milk and Honey pedicure ($50) and the grapefruit essence (they had other ones like lavender and rosemary) They also had every single color of Essie, OPI, Sally Hansen, NARS, MAC, and Chanel. The pedicure was pretty sweet - she took her time with my cuticles, shaping and file (and when she taking care of some ingrowns it didn't hurt like a bitch like it always has), scrubbing, and massage. The polish application was also impeccable. During the process she was really nice although at the end she asked that I tip in cash (which I didn't know) and let me charge it since it was my first visit. She asked me how much and I said 8 bucks (usually I tip more but I was still holding a grudge about the impatience in the beginning) and she said "well that's less than 20% How about 10 dollars?" I was so shocked that I said yes but in retrospect, that is so rude. I probably won't go back to that location but I might try the other ones to see if they are less crazy about their tips. read more

This is as good as it gets when it comes to pedicures and manicures. Occasionally, I have risked my foot health and gone to some makeshift nail salons and wondered if the equipment had been sterilized or if the foot bathtub had been cleaned. Then subsequently wondered if my feet would take on a strange smell in the days proceeding. Luckily, this has never happened. Jin Soon gives me the utmost in peace of mind regarding cleanliness. Every nail technician is really friendly and gentle and I can tell that everything they're using is clean. The polish selection is unprecedented. This isn't a $20 mani/pedi place you find all over Manhattan (or $15 in my hood in Brooklyn), and that's what makes it amazing. Yes, it's a bit pricier, but not pricier than normal places anywhere else in the country. Even cheaper than some "spas" that do terrible jobs in Midtown. I've always like having pretty hands and Minu makes sure that it happens. She's one of my regular ladies and knows exactly what I mean by just natural, round shaped nails. Plus my cuticles look amazing even when I ask them not to cut it! And the color selection here is unbeatable. I don't know any other nail place that offers Chanel, MAC, Tom Ford, NARS and other top luxe polishes. Now that Jin Soon has her own line, I always end up choosing one of her colors to show support. Not to mention the colors are always on trend, since Jin Soon pretty much dictates nail trends in all editorials today, and the formula lasts. I chose the new vampy one called Risqué and my roommate's straight male friend complimented it. So come here, pay a smidge more for manis and pedis that last much longer than anywhere else, or go someone else and be pissed that the girl is jabbing your cuticles just because she has no idea what she's doing. Or filing them in the ugliest shape because you asked for round! And ask for Minu, she's amazing. LOVE IT! The pedi was great!! I just got the basic pedi and it was so relaxing! Get the citrus tea...its amazing! I got the Shellac (by CND.com) new mani. They are one of only 2 places in the city that does it! Its all amazing! The place is tiny so don't go in thinking its going to be some huge place because it will catch you off guard. I am pretty sure there wasn't even a sign, It's just a yellow framed place with big windows in the sitting area. I had a great experience even though there was a super SUPER grumpy/grouchy lady in there at the time. She was asked to wait 5-10 minutes and you would have thought someone asked her to giver herself the pedi & mani. Maybe its just me, but when I go for a treat like this, 5-10min isn't going to wreck me. Maybe she should have schedule an earlier appointment if she was on such a tight schedule! Going downhill. I have been going to Jin Soon for years and typically save my visits for those times I really want to treat myself to something nice. It's small and intimate and generally more relaxing than your typical nail salon. After my last experience I will probably not return. I'm not sure if most of their regular manicurists have moved to their new location in Tribeca, but on my most recent visit I only recognized one of the manicurists, and the woman who handled my mani/pedi was not representative of what I'd previously been used to at Jin Soon. My manicure was probably the worst I've received in memory. Right away I noticed she had painted to low into my cuticle area and the edges were messy. During my pedicure, there was no massage and way too much lotion used. By the morning of day two after my manicure, half of the polish on one finger had just peeled right off and by the end of the day, two more followed suit. I'm careful with my nails and my manicures usually last at least a week if not longer. I'm tempted to call and ask for refund. This is not just a poor manicure, it's unacceptable. read more

UPDATE: I must say that I was impressed to have been contacted by the owner her(?)self, who wished to learn the date/time of my visit, so that s/he could identify the aesthetician who performed my procedure to provide additional training. S/he also took additional measures to set things right. Having heard tales, from friends, of business owners who contacted them, enraged about the reviews that they'd written & threatening to sue, I am ever more impressed w/ Jin Soon. This was exactly the response I would expect from a quality establishment. I can forgive a business for not being flawless. Jin Soon is darn close & striving to be even better; that's laudable. *previous review* I (a male) recently took a female friend to Jin Soon for her birthday. In spite of the small space, the staff managed well, moving customers efficiently about, like the tiles of a slide puzzle. Two things I dislike about most spas, when it comes to men's manicures, is that they tend to cut the nails too short and always want to apply a clear coat of polish, no matter how one protests. My chief complaint, however, is that the next day--after all the manicurey goodness had warn off--I noticed that I have tiny scratches, from my cuticles towards the tips of my nails, on almost every finger, that were definitely not there, before. This place has gone WAY downhill. I've been going to Jin Soon since before they had an UES location. I'm a hand model and this is the go-to. Jin herself was really the go-to and she used to train her technicians to be almost as great as she is. It was worth the premium for an amazing mani. No more. So sad to say that this has not been the case for some time now. I've been giving them the benefit of the doubt, not wanting to complain, etc., but I've finally had it and feel I must say something. My manis have been subpar for a while and when I point it out to the technicians, I'm usually met with major attitude or no reaction whatsoever. I make specific requests about shape & polish (round edges, not too clumpy, etc.) and almost every time, I have to make the request literally 5 or 6 times before they get it, and even then, it's more that I just give up realizing they'll never get it so why bother? I'm writing this on my way to a hand modeling go-see for which my nails should be impeccable and as I was inspecting them on my way downtown from Jin Soon, discovered MAJOR unacceptable flaws. I am appalled at the lack of professionalism. Jin deserves better. read more

Best manicure-pedicure in the city! I loved this place! It is totally worth the higher price. I got the CNC shellac too, and it lasted over 3 weeks with NO CHIPS! You definitely need an appointment, it is a very small place. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the chair, well it is actually a bench, that you sit on for the pedicure is uncomfortable. It is a wooden bench with a pillow on the seat and a pillow behind the back, and I really expected something better/more comfortable for the money. They accept credit cards for the service, but bring cash for the tip. read more

Wow is all I have to say...in a bad way. I usually go to the Walker Street location and love it, but being strapped for time I decided to check this one out by my apartment. The experience was mediocre at best but here's what really got me...as the woman placed the LED light on the desk to begin my gel manicure, I noticed a bug crawl beneath the bug apparatus. Trying not to hyperventilate, I informed my nail tech, she lifted the light, and lo and behold, a baby cockroach crawled out. The woman did not apologize or kill the bug...she actually gave me a bigger attitude after that. No apologies were made as I left, went to grab my shoes, and noticed the same bug once more, with no acknowledgment by the staff. I'm not asking for a discount or a free service, but an apology or acknowledgment is proper protocol. Will never go back to this location. read more

I have tried to be a customer twice and both times they have declined my walk-in. The first time I came alone. At that time I thought perhaps they were busy in the back. The second time with my daughter. There was no effort to accommodate me at all. They said they could not help me before even asking me what I would need. It was NOT busy. We wanted to simple manicures. It is Wednesday evening and there was in person getting her nails done. We were there around six o'clock. I am used to get my nails done in Belgium, Europe. While being in New York, I decided to get a mani and pedi @ Jin Soon. It was an overall exceptional experience. The estheticians were very friendly and most important: very professional. My french shellac looks great after almost 3 weeks (although I have the most difficult nails to treat) and also my pedi looks crisp. Tucked away in a tiny storefront on east 73rd street, you might pass this place right by if you are not paying close attention. Once you are inside however, you'll be glad you found this little gem of a spa! The back area is my favorite spot in this place. It's this lovely little pedicure room that is so relaxing and peaceful. The soothing music adds that final touch that will help whisk you miles away mentally. Once your pedicure service starts, you will feel the stress just melt away and your feet will feel like putty. They offer many different "special" spa type manicures and pedicures here, as well as facials and waxing. I usually opt for the "Spirit Of The Beehive" pedicure in the Winter and the "Summer Oasis" pedicure in the warmer months. Both are wonderfully soothing to your feet and legs. For my manicure, I like the "Spirit Of The Beehive" as well or "The Balm Of Purity." This place has the largest selection of nail polish (both in terms of brands and colors) I've ever seen at any spa. All of the nail treatments are a bit pricey, but well worth it. I leave here feeling buffed, pampered and relaxed...as if my hands and feet are as light as air! My manicures and pedicures here have always been nothing short of immaculate! They also seem to last twice as long as the ones I get everywhere else. One time, I was lucky enough to get my manicure from Jin Soon Choi (the owner and famous nail guru to many celebrities) herself! I was flattered when she complimented my skin and praised me for staying out of the sun and keeping it looking so young (she said I had the skin of a 20 year old...I am 40, so that made my day for sure).
