Draper Farms is the roadside farmstand of my dreams! Now, they are not found along a major road or…read morehighway, so it's no wonder it took me so long to discover them, but if you live in McMinnville or thereabouts, they are worth a couple minutes drive out into the "country" part of McMinnville. I have taken to stopping here first on my weekly shopping trips. I try to purchase the majority of my produce at Draper Farms, then supplement as needed at the standard grocery store. I live pretty rurally, so I generally don't make it into town for the Thursday farmer's market like I wish I could. Draper Farms is the perfect alternative that I can hit Saturday, Sunday, or any day of the week that is convenient. Offerings cycle with the seasons, but they are growing lots of great stuff here, and there is always an excellent variety of options. A few of my favorites are their strawberries, radishes, corn, leeks, collards, and herbs. No matter the time of year they will have some sort of lettuce, cabbage, spinach, or other greens. I recently grabbed some divine kiwi berries, finished in a single day, and have dreamed of them since. For autumn, they offer an array of pumpkin varieties for 30 cents a pound which is the least I've seen anywhere, and much prettier than what you can find at a grocery store. They also had fall décor, including stunning glass gem corn. There is even a separate fresh cut flower stand! They accept cash, check or Venmo (the latter is such an appreciated option, yay!). They have some bags available, though you should bring your own if you can. Prices are generally less than the grocery store, and for much higher quality produce! There is a good amount of parking. They also offer a CSA.

Then we left the orchard with our small 65$ bucket of apples to then give the bucket back and put our apples in our own baskets ( which were Not allowed). I was with our 2 year old grand daughter and lost the group... we walked into the store to go to the goats and VERY rudely a woman sternly and loudly says "ma'am! To enjoy the garden you MUST purchase first from the store!" First off the tone she used was alarming! Like I did something very wrong and I was merely looking for my family!! Then she also used ma'am! Yuck! I just turned around, left, found my family and we left and went to a much more family- friendly farm!!! I will never return, ever! Too much competition on the fruit loop to treat customers like that!

Realizing there was no real deadline to arrive home, a few minutes later I turned around, and am so glad I did! A visit in September means pumpkins, squash, mums, pansies, and other cold hardy plants will greet you at the entrance. Inside were charmingly packaged daffodil bulbs with corresponding photos. A cascading tangle of dried hops was gorgeously displayed. Prices (very reasonable) were written on a chalkboard, and there is a deposit box in which to place your funds. Alas! They only accept cash, of which I had none handy, so come prepared! It appears their offerings flow with the seasons, and while they are a little ways from my home, I never shy away from a drive along my favorite US highway, so I'll surely return before long. They would even be worth adventuring a bit out of your way. An absolutely charming little farm stand!

We even plan our summer vacations to get to places where we can pick and eat fresh berries. We read about Sunset Valley Blueberries last year and the lengths they go to to get good berries impressed us. Last year we ordered a couple of large boxes of dried berries and ate the rehydrated berries over the winter. The dried blueberries were good. This year we tried the frozen - ordered 30 lbs. They really take their shipping seriously. Shipped wrapped in a plastic bag in a box. The box is in a styrofoam container like the ones sold in stores with dry ice inside of it. The styrofoam container is put into another shipping box. You really have to work to extricate the bag of berries from the setup, but I suspect it is worth it to get the berries in good shape. We are in Wisconsin which is about a thousand miles from Oregon. We've been eating the Wilt Farm blueberries over the past 3 weeks. We've compared them with the other brands of frozen organic blueberries. The Wilt farms berries beat the other organic berries hands down. The other berries defrost to a purple color and leak juice. The Wilt Farms berries stay blue. The Wilt Farm berries don't bleed as much when they are defrosted and they hold together, keep their shape and texture better. They have a nice mouth feel. They approximate fresh berries, and they are wonderfully sweet. They are the closest thing to fresh as you can get. I am impressed. They are pricey, $185 for a 30 lb box which includes the shipping, but frankly they are worth it and you could spend $180 a lot more foolishly than to buy great tasting organic blueberries. We just ordered our second box of the season. If it is any different I will be back to change this rating.
