So I went here for my first time a few days ago. Made an appointment with David Cheney to get a $45…read morehaircut. I had pretty long hair, and I wanted a "no fade warrior cut" those photos of that guy with black hair was the exact reference I gave him. I explicitly told him that not only did I not want a fade, I wanted length and flow on the sides and back, so the sides and back didn't look skin faded and I could style the sides and back to be textured like the guy in the photo.
David told me from the jump before he cut my hair he said "the guy in that video has natural movement in his hair. Your hair is super straight. You'd have to put a lot of product in your hair to style it this way." I was aware of this and was okay with that, but that's exactly why I asked him to leave length on the sides and back that wasn't too much shorter than the top, so when I style it, I'm not just styling the top of my head, I would also be able to texture the sides and back as well.
And so he cut my hair. It took him about 2 hours to cut my hair as well, and about an hour and a half in, he had another customer come in. That customer was waiting quite a bit, and I could tell that David was starting to rush me because of this. He even told his coworker "sheesh I didn't realize how far behind I was" it felt like he was implying that I was burdening him by even being there.
Then after he's done. He hands me a mirror and shows me what you guys see below. That's me at home after and I had to blur my face because I was literally in tears. I was devastated. I want you guys to notice the line up around my ears. One side goes way higher than the other side. He didn't even line the sides up evenly. And if you look at the picture of the back of my head, the right side where he went high up on my ear he also went super short on the right side of the back of my neck. While on the left side, where the line up around my ear isn't as high, the back of my neck on the left side has more hair on that side too. So he didn't even make the lines or the back of my neck even.
When he handed me the mirror I started messing with my hair to style it a little bit different on the top, and he was getting mad that I started styling it differently than he did. He said "okay, so the way you're messing with your hair right now is nothing like the guy in the photo." And I tried explaining to him that I wanted the sides and back to be longer, and because he went too short on the sides, I wanted him to trim a little bit more off the top since he went so short on the sides and back. I'll give him that he didn't do a skin fade, but he left NOTHING on the sides for texture.
After I said that he said "so you want a buzz cut? You want it even all around?" With very much attitude. I didn't want a buzz cut. I did want the sides and back a little shorter than the top. But he left like an inch and a half on top and like nothing on the sides and back. He then goes "if you want me to do something you have to let me know now cause I have a customer that's waiting." He said it very impatiently and rudely. At that point. I didn't want him touching my head again, especially with all that animosity. So I said "it's fine I'll leave" and he said "I'm sorry you're leaving disappointed but that's what happens when you try a hairstyle your hair is not meant for" and I left devastated, in tears, and self esteem ruined.
After going home, me and my girlfriend decided it was best if we just cut the top of my head to be even with the sides, and what do ya know, it's a buzz cut :| I'm not upset with the way the buzz looks, but not only can you still see how the lines around my ears are uneven, but the sides and back should've never been that short to begin with. I don't even think this is about me not having the right hair for it. If he had left the same amount of hair on the sides and back as he did with the top when he was done, or even a teeny bit shorter than the top like I wanted in the first place, then I probably could've worked with that.
This was just a botched and terrible haircut, and a terrible customer experience. I can't speak for the other barbers, but I would never recommend this place to anyone and I would have some choice words for David if I saw him again. If anyone read this whole thing, you did yourself a favor. I would only recommend this place for any dude over the age of 30, because these guys don't know how to give dudes anything but a military haircut. Great place if you're about to enlist :) 0/10 experience.
