I broke my elderly Dads panoramic sunroof and we needed someone to close it. I made an appointment and Ryan and his worker closed it for us. He did it quickly (as a courtesy which is unheard of in this area!!!) while we waited in their beautiful office. They are now our auto mechanic we will be seeing in the future. To whom it may be of help. I have known Jim the owner of 'Jim's Auto' since 1984 and not only sent my own vehicles to Jim's but I ALWAYS have recomended Jim's shop to any women who are needing their vehicle repaired. I have been a mechanic for going on 50 years and have yet to find a shop owner as knowkedgable and honest as Jim (The owner) . I found these reviews as I was going to call Jim since I've moved to Nothern FL. and my back has debilitated me. I'm looking at a five hour trip to take one of my vehicles to JIm as I have not been able to find a local reputable shop since leaving Sarasota. That includes dealerships. The only other shop I use is Val's in Cheifland, FL for the same moral reasons. Why go to Jim's while Val's is hours closer ? Because the repair is not covered at Val's and Jim is better suited. I am an ASE medium heavy master certified truck tech, master transport bus tech, ASE cert auto tech, certified in man carrying equipment for FP&L plus derricks etc. Certified welder, also cert. in HP steam pipe, a universally certified A/C tech., including certification in commercial chiller units. So, what I mean is I can speak no higher of any mechanic I know still living . Jim has always been a top notch mechanic, person and the most honest buisness owner I have ever known . The FEW reveiws that reflected otherwise is why I felt it nessisary to write this reveiw . The 'people' who work for Jim I cannot speak for as I don't know them, let me add Jim tends to be out working on customer cars giving them the best personnal attention and service he can as that is just .....Jim. I've had a lot of car issues in the last two years, all different new problems that pop up, and Jim's Auto has taken me in NO problem. I call, whether frustrated or in tears, and I'm in. A concerning experience with an impounded car I cannot speak to this company's auto and truck repair services, but the lot looked busy the 6 times I visited it in the space of two days, regarding my father's impounded car. The Sarasota County sheriff's dept. had towed the car to Jim's Auto & Truck Repair in Sarasota, Florida, after they found my 91-year-old father broken down on the side of the highway over Labor Day Weekend. He was dehydrated, had been listed as a "missing person," and was immediately taken to the hospital. His car--which was no longer running, was dispatched to Jim's. When I arrived at Jim's, without my hospitalized dad, to find out how to reclaim the car and pay for it, I looked inside the auto and saw 4 of my dad's walking sticks in the back seat, his only garage-door opener lying on in the front seat, and his Florida handicapped placard on the dashboard. The owner Jim was very kind to me and very helpful, which is why I'm giving 2 stars in this review. He told me he thought the engine had seized and that we should junk the 20-year-old vehicle--his co. would take care of that for us--and he then sent me to talk to the two men who work for him and handle the impounded cars. Man No. 1 would not allow me to remove any of the belongings--not the garage door opener, nor a cane, nor the handicapped placard, even though I had my father's driver's license and my own with me (our middle and last names are the same). OK, I thought. No big deal. Finally, when I had the signed title in hand, I took it to Jim's. Fellow No. 2 who handles the paperwork for impounded cars at Jim's gave me a check for $200 made out to my dad--His share from the junkyard after all impound and towing fees were paid. Fellow No. 1, who previously hadn't let me remove any of my dad's belongings from the auto, then thrust "all" the items into my arms, instead of letting me remove them from the car myself. I put the mess of stuff into my trunk. I walked over to my dad's car and then did a thorough search of the interior and trunk to make sure everything was out of it. Satisfied, I drove home to my dad's. When I got there and sorted through everything, I noticed the garage-door opener was missing. So I phoned Jim's, spoke to fellow No. 2, a bit exasperated, and he said they would search the car for the opener and hung up on me. He didn't call back. I called Jim the owner, who said, yes, they'd found some HOUSE KEYS and the garage-door opener in the car. I returned to the lot, didn't speak to fellow No. 2, who was at the counter with the garage door opener and my father's HOUSE KEYS in front of him. I took the items without speaking and left--at this point I was quite exhausted and tearful. I also phoned the sheriff's office to report my experience. It wasn't until a couple of days later that I remembered none of my father's 4 walking sticks were returned to us. read more

If Zero stars was possible this Tow Yard would be getting it. Horrible Customer Service! The lady in the front has a b*tchy attitude for no reason towards paying customers. Make arrangements to stay far away from this place or stuff will go missing from your vehicle. read more

Driving from Wisconsin to southern Florida, we experienced a frozen brake caliper when passing through. As good luck would have it, a Sarasota friend told us about this place, and the past work they have done. With a full parking lot of vehicles, we left the van overnight, picked up the next day, and the bill was less than we expected. They also rotated tires and changed our oil at our request. We were in good hands with this garage. Darrell assured us that it would be done at the time he explained. No surprises here. I doubt we could have found a better place. read more

I always received good service at a fair price with Jim's. The company I work for uses them and that's how I found them. They work on my and my wife's cars and I have yet to have to bring our cars back because their work wasn't right. I highly recommend them. read more
